  1. Lots of things deter burglars some quiet simple such as gravel drives as its noisy to walk on, good exterior lighting, There's a security light called nighwatcher it moves with movement been effective when I've seen it in use. Often if they see something unusual they don't know about it will make them go elsewhere unless your car is been stolen to order. Theft is about reward versus risk, make the risk of hassle higher the risk to reward level is much less appealing. Some times the most simple deterents can be the most effective such as a steering lock as involves tools and noise increased risk less certain reward. They might have a laptop and an RF booster to get into your keyless car but will they have a big hammer and chisel and want to create lots of noise, possibly not. We're away with work a lot so we have a 16 point locking steel door so not so easy to get in from but even this has a weak spot. Again risk and reward on if they want to try to kick it in. The house invaders are a bigger issue if they get in, as prepared to take the biggest risk by committing agrivated burglary in a domestic dwelling. But doubt if they give a **** from experience.
  2. Might be worn gear if it's doung it one way and not the other try some silicone spray if you can get near the runners and drive
  3. Hi would you PM me his details hard to find a decent auto elec guy please
  4. I had an issue with my Swan system it was letting me see but always every 20 seconds e mailing me a clip from each camera. Then wouldn't work at all. Their actual app doesn't work well. it should work if it's on your wifi network, try turning wifi off on your phone so your on data not wi fi, otherwise you will need to go from scratch with the instructions.
  5. They were £ 5 cheaper than Amazon on the rear camera and my discount on top. I like Halfords better than Amazon as they pay tax! Our small car shop has become a smaller version of Euro car parts and now have virtually nothing like they had before (Shelves with odd bolts and shiny stuff) now like Halfords but more expensive and even a potty kid.
  6. Mine works I went for two windscreen repairs a sat navy rear camera and other bits got my discount fine. In fact when I went in pretty lackadaisical. When I showed them card they seemed to snap into full service mode, did a nice job on the chips no mess and polite (Colindale) couldn't fault them.
  7. My advice for now get a piggy back connector, change the fuse for that at least it would be properly protected until you decide what to do longer term. I most likely have a spare one in my electrical bits so happy to post you one out FOC? At the moment it looks like a fire waiting to start?
  8. The brake fluid mineral is hydroscopic so attracts moisture better to change, if its clear looks like no seal damage which is quiet amazing over 20 years! Well done for having a go yourself!
  9. Long time ago I had a Nissan 200SX with the 1.8 Turbo that had a similar issue, it was down to the oil viscosity even on two brands the same 5- 40 it had it with one but not the other and only started after I changed the oil, I suspect that some oils hold better in the valves stems than others. I changed the oil a few times to find a brand that stopped it I think to semi synthetic rather than full synthetic as well. scares you doesn't it when you hear anew noise then i think we sensitive to it and hear it worse even when others can't? Either that or it washed something out by changing the oil. My m8 had Supra and his had a similar issue when he changed the oil not using a genuine Toyota Filter. Dealer told him was a common issue he changed the filter and it stopped!
  10. Very nice m8 real Jap wagon
  11. Looks really cool M8 very nice worth the work you have put in!
  12. I took the warranty as seems good value you can't get much done for the cost of the warranty should you have an issue and whilst reliable the repair costs are likely to be high should a problem occur. Never sure if I am over cautious but at least two worry free years of driving and no large bills just as good as a new car!
  13. I usually use a small independent rather than the big companies for wheel balancing usually not expensive. If they have the wheels off at least you can see under the car as well.
  14. I ordered a few items from Lexus Parts Direct last week as seemed good value, but across three orders on the same day. Rear bumper, cover some Faraday bags and some car care stuff ,plus some other biits and bobs. Very good service they called me on the phone the next day to say they would treat all as one order, then refunded me the postage on two of the orders via pay pal, again the same day. Incidently, they then actualy had to send me two packages due to shape of rear pumper protector, but still only charged for one parcel. I had used another Lexus specialist on the internet the week before who sent me the wrong boot liner (mine is not hybrid) but it showed as fitting my car on thier e bay account, actually only fitting the hybrid version. Then I had to re packackage, drag to the collect plus site via the ebay system and return, having to take the full cost of the return postage which was rather poor service in my opinion. You would have thought they would have arranged collection as their mistake not mine or at least sent a returns label by e mail or post. Plus I had ordered several other items off them so was a returning customer, but wont be again. Anyway, from my experience I will LPD in future.
  15. I managed to get some roof bars and cycle carriers for my GX off eBay £150 but had to then source some consumables and bits such as the clear plastic to stick on the car and some thin rubber off e bay. Also the guy stiffed me as the keys he gave me didn't unlock the cycle frame holders but managed to get some from a lock smith (after two wrong sets off ebay supposedly that would fit. The racks appear to be based on Thule. But the cycle carriers have Toyota on them. If anyone needs keys for a Lexus cycle rack PM me and I will send the details of where I got mine from. The guy had paid £ 560 for them so worth the hassle of me cleaning them up.
  16. Used mine today at Halfords Colindale they repaired two windscreen chips, I bought a rear camera, and some cleaning stuff, it does add up. Guy behind till scanned it gave me back and 15% came off the bill so saved about £25 with no hassle. He didn't question the card just took the discount off for me. Very happy. The windscreen repairs were good as well, so not everything is bad at Halfords.
  17. I had it done or a similar product on a Ford Capri in 1987 one of the last ones it didnt seem to be as good as when I had self treated the light grey seats in my previous Fiesta Xr2 Mk 1 with I think a water protection flouraspar based (Like scotchguard). I know I am really old but the products were a similar sell even 30 and a bit years ago. My suspicion was least that the dealer hadn't done the job properly on the Capri and it was just a way of getting a little more profit on the deal. Unfortunately, the Capri refused to go around corners in the wet, so I can't really say if it would have worked in the long run. Incidentally I did have a second hand car that had it and when I had the door painted, it didn't seem much different to the existing paint in either appearance or performance. The leather sealant I am again sceptical particularly on analine or semi analline as it will do the opposite of what abalone leather should be by sealing it. Gliptone do a spray to seal leather though so if you did want to do it that would be a cheaper route and possibly more effective as their stuff is 😊
  18. If it's an LSD does it need a modifier as well as the oil, not had one for a long time but seem to remember having to add something to the LSD oil for the internal clutches.
  19. Car looks good m8 nice colour and spec. Good you know how to do bits yourself as well. I asked Lexus Edgware (Colindale) this week about the gearbox oil change as have always had autos changed around 50k even when 'sealed for life' they said it really doesn't need doing in fact better to not, and could be £ 8-900. At just hitting 50 k on mine my spidey sense says it's worth doing, but not at that price. Im still inclined to do it though.
  20. Cheers, I will contact the seller and see what I need. Have a good day Chris
  21. I got the matching piggy back connector for the fuses arrived today Link if anyone needs them they do seem a shallower fit, but the fuse box cover doesn't fit. £ 1.95 each including postage so seemed good value. https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/rich_remo
