  1. Know only personally one taxi owner. They buy their cars and sell them when it is best. Very few old cars are still driving like taxis here.
  2. A million miles is of no interest to a taxi. They are kept till they can be sold for a good amount and a new can be bought. Did not ask the owners of the Dacia or Hyundai.
  3. Here a taxi used to be a Prius, from Toyota. Now most of the new taxis here are no longer coming from Japan. Dacia and Hyundai are what we can get when looking for a taxi here; have only seen one Corolla hybrid as taxi. Before I have been speaking with a taxi driver about his Hyundai and he praised the service and the low cost of maintenance. He had a Prius before. Yesterday and today (our CT was having service) the 2 taxis I was in were both Dacia. They were both new, half a year of so and very comfortable to sit in on the sofa. At least as comfortable as the back seat in the CT we have, maybe even more; and with a lot of room for the legs. The Dacia is praised for very low price and with absolutely no problems, not according to me as I have never had one, but according to the taxi drivers. Yes, they are only about half a year both of them, but taxis are not kept for a long time. They are bought to make money, and when they cost little and spend little time in garage and the service is god and cheap, they are having all the stars a taxi need.
  4. In Madrid temperature was above 40 Celsius (friend of mine) and in Seville it is close to that. Forests are burning in France and Spain and probably more places and in Germany they will now start making electricity with coal power. Not that many years ago in the US they burned corn to make electricity. What we all do to save the planet for coming generations.
  5. Miracles continue to happen. Oil is cheaper, gasoline is cheaper (electricity is not, poor people here have problems paying their electricity bill) and filling the CT is good again. 1.634€ / L Car tell me it used 5.8 L/100km since last fuel. Not correct. 528.1km since refuelling give 6.17 L/100km. overall use since a couple of months 6.2 is very close to correct. That the same computer can tell that it used 5.8 L/100km since refuel (which is wrong) and show 6.2 L/100km (which is very close to perfect) show that the software is not designed/programmed correct. By accident or on purpose is up to the reader of this to decide.

I do not know which terrain the bad reviews of the sound of CVT (and hybrid cars) come from, but living here where mountains are norm, I am sorry to admit that sound of the Lexus CT is not the most pleasing when climbing and pressing the engine real hard. Now the CT is not a performance car and if it is not being used as if it was it does not make any more noise than cars with other kind of engines. That Lexus (and all other car factories) lie about how little fuel is needed to drive a certain distance do not make the quality of the any smaller. It make the trustworthiness of car factories and those accepting these values worth nothing, but business is business and us suckers that believe in the factories are - well what we are. Those of us that claim it is possible to get the mileage / distance / fuel is like the factories tell us are like those that believe that the best of what the EV factories claim their cars can drive before needing to be recharged.
  7. That is correct. Still if a car has immobilizer and GPS tracking installed it will not be so easy for most common thief's to steal and if nothing is left in the car, little is to steal. If car is locked windows will often be smashed before the crook find out that it is empty. Long time ago we had a Honda CRX with alarm in, with siren inside the car close to 120db and usually left it not locked. Not many will get into a car with that noise level. Now we park in garage at night but still lock the car when parking outside it.
  8. With many steep hills (nothing here but up and down - mountains) on the island a little CT with 1.8 engine can get 47 when driven slowly. AC on always, temperature is summer here all year. 6.152L/100km. Compared with 5.1L/100km in a 2.0tdi DSG Golf 2005 here the weight of the hybrid battery is a negative. Engine on constant when going up and after a few minutes the hybrid battery is full while going down; when the hybrid battery is full all the energy coming from going down is wasted. Could fill the car in a city high up and get close to 0L/100km as we live just opposite the marina, but that would be cheating. The good thing is that our 2017 model was registered end of 2016 (however that is possible) so no road tax, that pay for the extra fuel; VAT we do not pay; we have I.G.I.C. on 7% instead. I read that you are getting high temperatures in UK even though you have sea all around you. Good our cars have AC. PS.: Forgot to mention that Lexus told in 2016 that the CT would need 3.8L to drive 100km. They cheat as they all do.

  11. Sounds like a competent electrician. If the car has no electronic-controlled alarm from factory; if the car unlock all doors with the metal key (without any electronic components inside it): It can be easily remote opened with just a single actuator in the drivers door. Making the same move as you do with the key. The power to the actuator shall be taken directly from the battery and wires of correct dimension must be supplying power to it. Only 1 door need an actuator and the electronic circuits in the car take care of opening the other doors.
  12. You are right Tom, the first 2 are out of reach and the 916 in good shape also. Had fun in a 916 with a 2L turbo engine in it in Sweden while up there having a 911 Turbo tuned by Stig. Reason for liking the 916 more than the 911 is handling. 911 is fast, reliable and so on, but 916 is a go-cart that can be street legal. Now getting older a CT is all we need. Hope it will last till it is possible to drive around in a combustion engined car fuelled with green hydrogen. Hope we last that long in good condition.
  13. Congratulation. It is a very nice and comfortable car. If it has been kept by the former owner it will be reliable. Nr. 4 of Porsche cars on my list. Would have loved a 969, RS or a 916, but 928 is for long travel a very good choice, maybe the best from a German factory.
  14. Absolutely best for me. Here temperatures are normally above 30° C in the day and open windows will not cool down plus will fill the car with dust, sand from Sahara and that is not fun to clean. I think that AC in a CT is consuming more than you believe it does. Fuel economy is so poor where we live that it is not much difference AC on or off. Today I visited friends only 500m above sea level and on the way back home hybrid battery was full after 500 - 1000 m and was full all the way to garage. Close to 10km with hybrid battery full so even though driving slow (due to traffic) it did gain nothing having a hybrid. Possibly better not to have the weight of the battery as going up it is no use and going down it is - no use. On roads not going up or down it probably is fine, but how would I know? Still the car is great and will not be replaced till something better come. Hydrogen combustion is what I would like, but that seems to be mostly for ships and heavy trucks.
  15. Where in the settings did you turn it off. I have not found anything like that in settings. Not that I am going to activate it as, like you, it is not for me.
  16. Do not know it the CT has that, and if so it is not turned on in our car. No vibration when changing lane, never felt that the car wanted to stay in a lane, but when changing lane the car beeps, when a car come in to the lane we are on close to our car, it beeps, when there is a radar speed trap ahead of us it beeps and sometimes it beeps without I can see any reason for it. Thought about finding out where to cut off the sound as it does little good, but then again it would help keeping attention on longer tours so never bothered to find out where to change setting if even at all possible.
  17. More unsprung weight (the wheels) is reducing the efficiency of the suspension. The heavier the wheels the worse handling. A heavy wheel is in contact with the road less than a light wheel. Today where most of us have mobile phones so we easily can contact assistance run flat tyres are not of any use in countries where most of us live.
  18. I believe the AC is consuming much power and it is starting engine very often to charge hybrid battery. Have AC on 23° C all year so difference between driving the car and going out of it is not too extreme. Often sit and listen to music while wife is shopping and engine start rather often. Never more than 10 minutes or so between starts. This evening it was not hot and I was again waiting in the car listening to music and tried not to have AC on but a window and sun-roof open. 35 minutes listening to music and engine did not start once. AC (with fan) is probably part of poor fuel efficiency.
  19. Adobe and Microsoft have been doing this for many years now and both are having a lot of customers renting. I find it stupid, but some feel that having the latest updates constant make it worth it. Still have not gone completely to Linux as having bought too many expensive programs not functioning with anything but Microsoft OS. Bought not rented, maybe not so smart?
  20. Worked in a company selling those stalks to Peugeot, VW and a couple of other car importers cheaper than they could buy from manufacturer. The harness needed to be a bit changed as well for most of the cars.
  21. I would not be surprised. Also would not be surprised if a third went to diverse governments and another third to the big oil companies. Meaning that 1 € would be the price for fuel.
  22. Fuel price here has increased more or less 60% in 5 years. Price for electricity has more than doubled in a year. If having solar cells on top of own house is a possibility, EV's are economic compared to cars using fuel from oil. If having to buy electricity if price for that is increasing like now it will not be that much of a funny thing to be depending on electricity as power source. In colder countries less than in more warm countries where heating is not needed in cars (or houses) except if temperature is so high that air condition is needed to have a decent temperature. Here we are lucky, temperature in the sea around us is around 20° C all year, but if the Golf Stream will change it's way we will not continue to be so lucky. Open windows and we have fresh air in from the sea and temperature is perfect even when outside sun is giving UV radiation above 10 several hours daily and temperature inside a car parked will be so high that it is uncomfortable to get in there. Luckily AC in the CT is extreme fast getting temperature down.
  23. New cars - new features. The old CT is parked about 5 - 15 cm from wall and 1 or 2 beeps when locking or opening. Small parking space in garage with about 20 cars, some with drivers that should never have been permitted to drive, so we leave as much room as possible for those passing the place where our car is parked. Parking places in many houses here were made when the normal car was a Fiat 500, Renault 4 or 5 or similar. The CT is not a big car and look at how much room there is for it in a standard size parking spot on the streets here: When buying first car (long time ago) I was told that the more features the car has, the more could go wrong. Luckily Lexus seems to have handled that really well. With all the comfort etc. features in the one we have, everything seems to function perfectly well.
  24. I was right. Never trust Microsoft. First they said no. 10 was the final version and now they are making no. 11. But to open Windows randomly is going too far. If we do not want to go back to DOS we may end up with Linus's OS. We all know that no. 10 is bringing nothing but problems. Sorry
  25. Do you know how much weight can be placed on the roof of a CT with the Thule bar mounted? Also looking at the Thule web-site I see nothing that would fit a Lexus CT200h.
