  1. Are you sure you are reading the link above. It's a scientific paper where the first line is "Current anthropogenic climate change is the result of greenhouse gas accumulation in the atmosphere, which records the aggregation of billions of individual decisions. Here we consider a broad range of individual lifestyle choices and calculate their potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in developed countries, based on 148 scenarios from 39 sources." nowhere in the paper do the words essex or cobbled appear 🤣 and I don't know where you found that paragraph of drivel to quote and claim it's from the paper. Unless I misunderstood your comment and you are discrediting the whole field of climate science using that quoted paragraph because you didn't like the first line in the paper and think the whole CO2 global warming field is nonsense? Which didn't immediately come to mind in this day and age of extreme weather, flooding, unprecedented fires...etc. but then again those are natural phenomena, part of a large swing cycle, right? in the words of a fictional character "The truth can indeed be a finger down the throat of those unprepared to hear it." and in the words of a less fictional character
  2. One last thought. You didn't have a bump to either rear bumper corner, right? Mirror BSM lights will give you a clue at startup when system is on/initializing. You are correct it is a bumper off job and can be costly.
  3. You could try techstream. I've only seen this once before on a US spec ES, they got lucky, old battery, low voltage, threw up this warning. How old is your battery? Can you check voltage?
  4. What color is the light? I'm not seeing a mention of a warning light in the manual https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1141722/Lexus-Ls600h.html?page=420&term=BSM&selected=1#manual Visible sensors have nothing to do with BSM iirc. It's actually two radar units in the rear bumper corners, not accessible without some disassembly
  5. Thought the graph still linked to the original scientific journal paper. Here... https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1748-9326/aa7541 Figure 1A Has already been cited 538 times and counting
  6. I thought the 40k threshold didn't apply to electric? yup...."Any vehicle (excluding BEVs) with a list price of £40,000 or above will incur an additional premium rate for 5 years (starting from the second time the vehicle is taxed)."
  7. I've posted this elsewhere to just illustrate how damaging...well the figure speaks for itself
  8. One or two to maintain, ok. But 7! ,cough Boris, 7! We decided to even out the odds from such selfishness. It's the people who think otherwise, in an irresponsible fashion, who are pushing the planet to destruction for humans and the rest.
  9. Toyota seating position. At 6.3, especially if you have a normal leg to torso ratio, I don't, you will be just under the headliner. Shame. Don't think there's a way round that. You might like some of Honda's offerings, they have the low Honda seating position (with the exception of the 9th gen civic). Unfortunately no Accords here, civic would be a step down, noisier but goes around corners like it's glued to the ground, and gets 50ishMPG. CRV is pretty comfortable, a hybrid, but an SUV. If it's sedans/saloons or estates you're after I'm afraid it sends you right back to ze Germans. I was in the same predicament. Only other alternatives were Volvo S90/V90. Cramped in comparison to the ES. Skoda superb, big, but material quality and engines were blah. Jag XF, also cramped, questionable reliability, and zigzaggy lane keep, and I mean zigzaggy all the way to the line and back. Mazda 6, dinosaur thirsty 2.5L engine. Although I hear the new one, not out yet, may be something worth testing. LS actually has less front headroom than ES. Am I missing anything?
  10. I for one, accept none. Thankfully, I found a like minded partner and decided to not procreate. I try to change minds through teaching, but it's an uphill battle.
  11. I would one of those mentioned, albeit on an ES with 18s and before that on a civic with 17s. One caveat, they must be rotated (front-back) or you'll get stepping (noisy) on the backs.
  12. therein lies the rub. If less people procreated we wouldn't be in the current predicament
  13. I'm afraid I haven't hit 50 quite yet. Mine is leather and turned 28 this autumn. Distressed leather look just like the one's they pay an arm and a leg for, except mine wasn't distressed 28 years ago 🤣
  14. The disposable culture! Thank you millennials et al. for that one. I have a jacket, keychain and umbrella that are older than literately any of my college age students. Heck I still have a functioning spectrum zx 48k and associated tapes! Well said Paul!
  15. Wash, top up the polymer wax protection. But more important than the prep is what you do in winter conditions when there's salt. Spray down (jet wash) with just water, DI if the station has it, paint wheels and undercarriage, once a week. Learnt that in Salt Lake City where for months out of the year the high is below zero, and the flipside is it hits 40C in summer.
  16. I did say a long time ago 😀 In any case the 17 tons of CO2 is very likely an underestimation. So unless your car will emit that in the next 10 years, I say the argument still stands that keeping an already built ICE car will likely be better CO2 wise than buying a new EV.
  17. Here's a reasonable argument for the above https://medium.com/age-of-awareness/keeping-your-old-gasoline-car-vs-buying-an-electric-car-which-is-better-f04b6ba32ea1 based on these numbers https://www.ucsusa.org/sites/default/files/attach/2015/11/Cleaner-Cars-from-Cradle-to-Grave-full-report.pdf
  18. From what I've read a long time ago, don't have the lit to hand. Carbon wise it's better to keep your own car going than scrapping and buying new, even if the new is an EV.
  19. Pioneer system is very good, but yes sound stage is right in front of you by design. If you want a rear biased system this is not it. I haven't noticed degradation with ANC, I'm assuming they must have updated something for the 2021s. System will do FLAC. I have 18s, ride is excellent (irons out poor surfaces) moreso than most Germans I test drove, including an E class. Quieter too thanks to clever aero, flat underfloor, sound deadening, double glazing and ANC. Economy at worst for me is low 50's on long runs 60+ Linear acceleration from zero (electric torque), no lag, but no drama. Heavy car, competent cornering, but not it's wheelhouse. You'll also find yourself less likely to overtake for a couple of mph under the limit. Not because you can't but because it's a relaxing drive that one enjoys at leisure. Yes you can split nav and audio on the screen, artwork from USB shows, haven't used spotify.
  20. There is a speed warning at +1 +3 and more. Just make sure you've engine/ready on but parked, lots of options are greyed out or even not reachable when moving. Make sure you go though options in drive display as well as center stack, not all options duplicated. Both heated steering and seats are set to come on automatically when climate concierge is on. You can have another window be the main and nav the side small one. Although I didn't see the point. But then again I'm still getting used to my new surroundings. Manual definitely worth the read. Have you rolled down the windows and peaked at the top edge of the glass? Well written observations
  21. umm from your link Works on all petrol 2001+ and diesel 2004+ cars and light trucks sold in the European Union (except hybrid or electric vehicles)
  22. I've driven mine to Germany and back. Power delivery is not an issue, just don't expect drama, it delivers it in a calm linear fashion. You will notice the quick pick up from zero due to the electric torque. This is not your standard hybrid where the electric motor assists the ICE, it's rather the other way around. Electric motor (well the drive one, yes there's two on this thing) is 120hp. Most of the time you'll be using that, then the engine kicks in to spin up the second electric motor as a generator in serial hybrid mode, then when you want more power the power split device will send engine power to the drive shaft to assist the electric motor for a combined system output of 215hp. Also, managed 60ish MPG on that trip in normal mode, ac on, normal driving. Yes it's long, but easy to park, visibility is good. No options to negotiate on really, I did negotiate on a service plan. I think the premium edition is the sweet spot in the range, I got one. Enjoy the quiet.
  23. No tow bar possible. Acceleration doesn't feel dramatic, but watch that speedo. Will put most cars to shame on an on ramp. Does not hang about at all as you have the instant electric torque. I've mostly driven normal mode, ECO feels a bit anemic and haven't seen more than 1-2MPG improvement. Have hit a high of 61+ MPG on longer trips. Everyday use, expect lower 50's without trying too hard and in normal mode. Mine is the premium edition. You get almost all the bells and whistles +12.3 inch larger screen but keeping it well below the 40k mark (minus ML, hollow wheels but it's already quiet without them, 360 cameras this one I miss, real leather, ventilated seats, reclining rear seats and rear shades). If not mistaken, can still be ordered, to me it was the sweet spot. F sport has the 19s, no thank you. AVS in this type of vehicle in unnecessary, the American 350 sure, but not the 300h. Finally, I have michelin cross climate + on mine, so you're covered there. Be aware, rear seats do not fold down. Boot sizable but a bit shallow.
