  1. I agree Supercharged IS200. Most motorists saw you in their mirror and slowed down . A warning was given if the incident of speeding did not appear to endanger anyone or anything and if they did'nt heed the warning next time they were booked. This was all in the days ( 1970's) well before speed cameras where the British principles of fair play prevailed. I am not talking about incidents in the middle of the night but during the daytime when pedestrians including children were around. Sorry to say its a different ball game today with the dreaded speed cameras with all the money going into the police coffers.
  2. Thanks Supercharged IS200 I feel better for that reply. I can add that when I was serving I had a few speeders mainly BMWs . They were followed and were not using their mirrors otherwise they would have seen the Police Volvo immediately. They were doing 55-65mph in a 30 zone. They were NOT let off!!
  3. What a hard bunch you are!!! My feelings are still with the nurse. The red tape and petty officialdom currently being displayed by enforcement agencies is sending this country to the dogs. I rest my case.
  4. Thanks for your input. I did know the Construction and Use regs as years ago I did the Police Advanced Driving course at Maidstone and spent 7 years as an area car driver on emergency response. I used the term' draconian' in relation to the way the police dealt with the incident. I consider a word of warning to the night duty nurse would have been sufficient rather than a £40 ticket which hard up nurses can ill afford to pay!
  5. In Hampshire last week a nurse going on night duty was flagged down by a wpc in a police car and given a £40 fixed penalty ticket for having her fog lights on when it was a clear night. Have any Lexus owners experienced any such draconian police methods of so called traffic control?
  6. When I attended the Beaulieu meet I was quite embarassed but thankful when Lexus owners pointed out to me that all my 'directional tyres; were pointing the wrong way. I had changed my wheels and had been unaware that the arrow on the tyre must point towards the direction of travel. After the meet I quickly changed them around and they are now correct.
  7. Good to see Clarkson back on the Tv screen . The format has to be tested but it is an interesting programme. I would like to see the Lexus range mentioned more. Has Clarkson ever made any observations on Lexus? I know what he thinks about Rover, Ford and Vauxhall but then they are not in the Premier League.
  8. Senior Citizens £7.25 Suggest hard up Lexus owners wear a beard !
  9. Its great being retired where every day is a Friday. Age has its advantages: I was brought up to respect my elders and now I don't have to respect anybody . It is possible that a man could live twice as long if he did'nt spend the first half of his life acquiring habits that shorten the other half.
  10. Claire G you have made me feel better after that remark. All I can say to MOJO is ' Get that Mojo working and good luck with job hunting. Arriving in a Lexus should get you a bonus point!'
  11. The biggest problem with IT people is that they expect evryone else to know their specific jargon Its a big world out there!
  12. Being a retired planner can you please identify what a Visual Basic Developer is.I can say that I have never heard of this role.
  13. Congrats This is a little tip. I had just acquired my IS 200 SE when in rainy weather I had to do an emergency stop at 9mph. The ADS apparently comes on above 10mph and the heavy car's 4 wheels locked and I gently glided into the car in front. Luckily no damage was caused but its made me think. Happy motoring !
  14. I agree it can help if you hit reverse instead of 1st gear. I would like the direction indicator bleeps to be louder as with the cd player on sometimes the lack of cancelling the signal goes unnoticed.
  15. I once had a red Celica in 2000 and the colour hit me so much that sometimes I felt like wearing shades. For my Lexus I settled for Kensington Green. Ref the red colour it was however: easy to clean and to touch up stone chips compared with the Kensington Green which looks great when polished but shows every dust mark and cannot be touched up. I am interested in seeing a red Lexus.
  16. Look in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Staff using computers must be given periodic breaks from screen work. Rest areas must offer protection to non-smokers from discomfort caused by tobacco smoke. Where food may become contaminated in the work place there must be a rest area. Staff using VDU's must be given training and free eye tests every 10 years. and free specs when they are to be used only for VDU work.
  17. I have been slowly getting there. Three years ago I was running a 1.6 Nissan Primera . It was reliable but certainly lacked image( or the wrong type). I then crossed over to Holland and brought back a red Toyota Celica. Great car but no room in the back and on retirement I was required to give more people lifts. It was then that I spied the Lexus 1S 200 SE range at the local dealer. The rest is history and my part exhange meant that after 12 mths motoring I got what I paid for it.
  18. Chris, Looking forward to seeing your car ( and you) at Beaulieu. Ref the picture I agree that the 18ins wheels were too big and the mirrors look odd. My car is the first car for a while that has no spoiler. For me it makes a change and I car reverse easier.
  19. In Dec 01 Micheldever Tyres quoted me; £106 for Michelin and their cheapest was £76 each
  20. A more dynamic dash board. Its a car for all ages and when we are on this subject may I add that I know 'old men' aged 40 ! They mainly drive Fiestas. I speak as a senior citizen who enjoys a quick getaway from the lights in my Lexus .
  21. Yes its great stuff. I have used it since buying some at the NEC Motor Show about 12 years ago. You can now buy MER at Halfords.
  22. I have also registered. I do not think that the motoring mags give enough attention to Jap cars, its always BMW and Mercedes.
  23. Being a fairly new Lexus owner owing to the bottom covers I have not yet looked under the car. Its just had a 2 yr service by Lexus . My questions are basic:a)Are the covers easy to take off as I have no car ramp?b)Is the oil filter easy to access? On all the cars I have had in the past the Castrol GTX Magnatec has been the oil I have used. I have carried out my own oil changes apart from major servicing.
  24. Check gears 1st to 2nd and onwards and see how smooth the change is, check clutch for smoothness pulling away and gear changing incl reverse. Test drive and check brakes incl an emergency stop. Check tyres this will also indicate wheel alignment faults if wear is pronounced on a particular side of tyre. Check for any leaks i.e. oil, fluids, water. From what I have read the biggest moans seem to relate to gear changing 1st to 2nd and body paint where some feel that the finish is too soft and as a result may be pitted i.e. bonnet. Check spare tyre and tools incl jack
