  1. Hi. some time with my engine emits the sound of this IS300 from the movie ... sounds like a diesel... I've tried different oils, also checked the valve clearance and are OK. I have no strength ... someone met with something similar and solved the problem? thank you in advance for your help.
  2. Hi all, In the next 12 months I hope to get a low mileage IS200 Sport, manual transmission for under £5000. I joined the forum to try and learn as much as I can before I commit to buying one. I've already read the buyer's guide, I just need some ideas on what is possible with them in terms of tuning, interior and sound etc. Cheers, Jake

  4. Need one for my IS back window, looks bare :)
  5. So for the last few month I have been having problems with my 99' Lexus IS200. It seems that there was a problem with the alarm that has been setting is off at all hours of the morning. The only way I found around it was to leave my car unlocked over night, which wasn't very comforting. So I was reading around the forums for a fix but I couldn't find a clear solution for it. I found that it may be the motion sensor that was causing the problem but I couldn't find out if it could be disabled or how to disable it, so I went hunting. I decided that I would remove the roof lining and heat shrink all the wires as this may have been the problem. After pulling my entire roof apart I found that the motion sensor itself was inside the dome light and that it was as simple as unscrewing 3 screws and disconnecting a single harness. So if you are having the same problem try disconnecting it before you go ahead and waste a lot of time haha. I have only just disconnected the sensor so I'm not 100% sure if it is the problem but I'm certain that it is. I will post back in a few days telling you how I go. Disable motion sensor Time: 5 minutes Difficulty: Easy Motion sensor harness: The big circle is the motion sensor. The small circle is the harness to disconnect. Removing roof lining Time: 40 minutes Difficulty: Intermediate 1. Remove the A-pillar by gently pulling. 2. Remove the B-pillar by removing the seat belt cover, unbolt the 14mm seat belt bolt and gently pull the cover off. 3. Remove the C-pillar the same as the A-pillar. 4. Remove the map light by pulling down or prying it. 5. Remove dome light by removing the lens cover and unscrewing the 3 screws. 6. Remove rear-view mirror by prying the cover and removing the 2 screws. 7. Remove the sun visors by removing the 2 screws on the outer side, disconnect the harness and remove the screw holding the pivot point. 8. Remove the grab handles by removing the covers on the end of the handles and unbolt the 2 bolts on either end. 9. Remove the 2 push in clips near the rear window(sorry no pictures) 10. Remove the roof lining. The roof lining should now be completely free. The easiest way I found to get it out is by folding down the passengers seat and removing the liner through the rear passengers door. I hope this helps anyone who is having the same problem as me. If you have an questions feel free to post of pm me. If anyone is curious I may weigh some of the part for those wondering about weight stripping If you would like to see more photos click the link below: http://s839.photobucket.com/user/Matt_Shipman/library/Lexus%20IS200%20roof%20lining%20and%20alarm%20problem
  6. Hi guys, anybody know where I can get the above mentioned kit for my IS200 sport? Looking for much cheapness but price not really a problem.
  7. Dear fellow-enthusiasts, "I have an IS 220d (2006) with approx. 65K on it and it recently started to develop a squeaky noise, while pressing and depressing the clutch, the shifting seems flawless and there is no noticeable difference in driving, apart from the noise, which is a bit of a nuisance, when standing at a light and shifting into Neutral or 1st and making people's heads turn..." After various responds to my problem with suggestions, which made my stomach and my wallet turn upside down, I went with the worst expectation and here's a follow-up of my visit to a garage, which I found on the Owner's Club Forum. "Basically, the squeaky noise was coming from the operating arm that drives into a so called cup to operate the clutch, it needed greasing on both ends. Gearbox, clutch and flywheel were all perfectly fine." GBP 16,77 (incl. changing of the front vipers) So for now everything's perfectly fine *knockonwood* Here's the garage's link, if you live close by, it's definitely worth driving out, friendly staff and straight to the point service - no BS (excuse my French). Make sure you ask for Steve. http://www.charlesworthmotors.co.uk/ Drive safely, Cheers.
  8. Guten Abend or I'll stick to Good evening, fellow-Lexus enthusiasts, I have recently moved to the UK and purchased my first and own car - an IS 220d (2006). Previous cars I drove were mainly German manufacturers, BMW 530d E60, BMW 520d F10, VW Gold V etc. ...so initially changing from German manufacturers to the Japanese flagship was a tricky one, BUT, no regrets so far *fingerscrossed* I hope to share my experience here with all my fellow-enthusiasts and to extract as much constructive information as possible - in order to keep my IS rolling flawless. Have a nice evening and drive safely. :)
  9. I want to buy a new lexus but don't have that much money, any recommendations?
  10. Swapped my grille today for an Altezza Z-Edition one. I like the LE grille but I've always liked this one too and fancied a change. I wasn't very keen on the idea of my Lexus wearing an Altezza emblem though so I modded an "L" badge off a standard grille to replace it. (BTW, the badge is now properly centered) :) The OEM grille with it's black mesh probably looked a bit "sportier", but overall, I like how classy this one looks.
  11. Hi everyone, i'm new on here and this is my first time posting. this is my is200. Could anyone here Photoshop it so that the same wheels are either gunmetal grey or white please? i'm considering powder coating them and i just want to see how they would look on the car, thanks.
  12. Hi All, Is it difficult to change it at home with some tools? How long would it take? Is a good mechanical screw drivers kit enough for it?
  13. Hi all, I came across these on YouTube, and thought it would be interesting to share them here. The first video is a short documentary on the assembly of the 2nd-gen Lexus IS at the Fukuoka plant. It's interesting to see one of the chaps at Lexus comparing the quality control to Russian dolls :P The second video has a bit more of a marketing tinge to it, but it still shows the production of the current-generation Lexus LS at the Tahara plant:
  14. Hi guys and girls, this is my first post on this site :D Iv owned an Ls400 for coming up two years now and have run out of ideas for "chavving" it up! (Not that im a chav, id say more an enthusiast!) i have 19" alloys, tints all around, cat-back longlife exhaust, painted calipers, and no joke... An amtrak american train horn.... Air compressor in boot which powers them under the car where the back-boxes once were.... Which is incredibly loud and ofcourse for off-road/show use only :P. Getting to the point, iv been thinking of getting a spoiler for her, i have seen some on ebay and on american sites but they seem either overpriced or just the boot lip spoiler. I like the BMW style spoilers. Anyone have any idea of a UK stockist or if i can make a spoiler from another car e.g. A BMW fit? P.s. iv attached some pics of her and a short video of the train horn in action. Cheers.trim.Zf0X46.MOVtrim.Zf0X46.MOV

Hi fellow LOC members :) Been on the forums for sometime, but wasn't a owner so i kept quiet :) 'till now My name is Jure, I come from Slovenia and I'm an addict. %&$%#$! can't stop driving my Lex around... :) So I bought a 2000 Lexus IS200 with 160.000 km (around 100.000 miles). Had some problems to get one since in Slovenia they were never officialy sold. They started sales with the newer model here. Still I managed to find one imported by a local Toyota dealer and it has the whole service history :) But all those hustles disappeared when I drove a newly bought home :D Since I'm a previous owner of two Honda Del Sols maybe you can imagine what a leap in comfort it was for me. Woooow :D So here are the pics: Sorry for the dirt...it got dirty on the way from carwash to the shoot...hate snow and salt on roads...well forget the snow, snow is fun with rwd :D So my short-term plans are: polish trunk lip from Sport edition refurbing aloys or maybe buying some 18" lowering for about 30 mm hid and halos changing the colour of the lighting on dashboard and interior lamps other things will pop in my head while I go :) The concept is to make it look clean with some detailing or in other words as stock as it can be, with my personal style :)
  16. Wouldnt it be a good idea if they brought the RX270 to Europe !! Why dont we get the whole range here inc the ES !!

  19. I finally picked up my mk1 gs300 sport last weekend. Got a great deal due to buying from a friend. the car turned out to be better than expected apart from one serious issue i noticed when driving home in the rain - the wiper stalk was broken. I have on order a second hand complete unit from ebay with both wiper and indicator stalks and it looks like the steering wheel etc will need removing. any help on how to fit this would be highly appreciated if its possible as a DIY. Ive searched through the forums and havent found anything that can help me with this. Heres the first picture of the car but please excuse the quality as it was getting dark Broken wiper stalk ;) I've purchased the car as a small winter project to get on road and then use as a daily driver so i will be keeping this topic updated as the car progresses along with pictures and guides that havent already been covered
  20. Hi everyone. Ive just joined due to considering purchasing my first lexus after owning a prelude vti which wasn't practical enough and then a 99 e39 523i, lovely car but was too sluggish compared to the prelude. A friend of mine has a 97 gs300 sport mk1 for sale in black with gold badges, the wider rear wheels (which need refurbishing) which he has owned it for the past 4 years or so. Its done 167,000 miles with full service history, 3mths mot left has a couple of issues which are are a cracked rear light, quite a big scrape on the rear bumper and hole in one of the backboxes from what already seen. He is asking for £650. Wheel Refurbishing and bodywork isn't a problem as im in the trade :) I have a couple of questions for you mk1 owners or anyone with knowledge in purchasing one of these... 1.Exhaust avalibility - Do the standard gs300 and sport share the same exhaust? 2.Common issues to look out for before buying? 3.Fuel consumption due to mileage? Im aware the lexus will be thirstier than my previous cars but with 167k on the clock what sort of economy should i expect as ive been told he gets 70-80 miles locally on £20 which sounds a bit too good to be true. 4.Comparision to the E39 523I Auto and 97 Honda Prelude Vti Auto if possible? Comfort? Power? Handling? 5. Previous owner maintained the car well and only really used on motorway BUT i know for a fact it has been driven hard during his ownership. Is this something to worry about on a GS? Sorry for such a long first post but if all seems good im hoping to buy it this weekend and get started working on the issues the car has and bring it back to its former glory Any advice would be appreciated
  21. To anybody out there thinking of buying a used Lexus is220d I would strongly advise against it. Lexus have admitted that there is a fault with the head gasket and have extended their warranty to 110000 miles. Full credit to Lexus for doing this and all well and good if you are within this mile range before your fault happens but if you are a little over the cut off, forget about having it covered under warranty. Despite it being a known fault, I approached Lexus of Newcastle with my car having done 113000 miles. Despite being a little over the mileage cut off I had no come back. I was given an estimate of £3,500 to have the issue repaired that I would have to pay. I thought that surely since it is a well known fault, it would have been covered. Moral of the story - don't buy a second hand Lexus is220d
  22. Hello :) Has anyone repaired or services their Lexus at a Toyota service/dealership? How did it go? I've just been told that I can't do it! :) Thanks
  23. Hi! I appologise if this has already been asked. I searched before posting but couldn't findd it. I am looking to buy my first lxus is 220d but having done some research i am quite confused to be honest. i like two cars, one of them is 220d sport and the other one is se multimedia. i think multimedia means it has builtin sat nav etc right? but what are the other major differences please? Cheers
  24. I am doing a couple of modifications to the rear of my car. Thought I would just let you all know that the words "Lexus" and "IS 220 d" have 6 locator pins. Therefore if you remove them, you will have to fill the holes and paint the boot lid.
