Technical Question Please

Recommended Posts

Most of you fellow members are already aware of the fact that I'm not too brill with the technical bits of our beloved IS's and so, I am once again seeking a little help and guidance please.

I have an apple Iphone 4s which I use all of the time (phone calls and texting), including via Bluetooth in the car. I don't use it for connecting to the internet or anything but, my wife, who seems to spend endless hours on the internet and facebook etc, she has an Iphone 5s which has 3G and 4G connections.

I am wondering therefore, if I connect my wiifes phone to the car via Bluetooth (I think that I can 'pair' up to 5 devices) what exactly will this give me as far as in-car connections go. I am wondering if I can get 'Streetview' and suchlike. (I think that's what it's called)

Many thanks.

I am also not great with all the technical stuff but I can tell you that if you have 2 or more phones paired with the car it will always connect to the last assigned phone. If your wife goes out on her own the car will pick up her phone automatically as yours will be out of range but then the next time you both get in the car it will connect to hers again as the last phone assigned, bit of a pain at times. It does need a function where you can prioritise which phone is first.

You can pair up to 5 devices but only one can be active at any one time.

Connected services will give you real-time traffic and parking updates along with google search and street view. You are also able to set Sat Nav destinations on your computer using the Lexus portal website which the car will then download and therefore be available as destinations in memory.

If you wanted to have your phone connected to make/receive phone calls then you should use the WiFi hotspot on your wife's phone which the vehicle can connect to. That way you have both functions at the same time.

The only slightly annoying thing with this set up using an Iphone is that the WiFi hotspot feature will only be available when you specifically go to the hotspot function in settings which will allow the vehicle to connect. Once it is connected you can go to other functions on the phone. When you use Bluetooth for Internet tethering you don't have to do anything, the vehicle will just automatically connect and use the Internet no matter what the phone is doing.
