tyre pressure

Dear All,

I have a CT200h 2013 model. When I first bought the car 1.5 years ago from Lexus Cambridge, I noticed the front left tyre was losing pressure in short time (1-2 weeks). Lexus Cambridge called the car back and inspected all the tyres. They have not identified anything wrong with tyres.

In the last 2 months, I am noticing front left tyre loses pressure from 35 to 29 in 2 weeks. I pump air at BP once in a while. Do you think I should take the car to a regular mechanic and get the front tyres checked out?

best

Go to a pro tyre workshop and have them close the little hole that probably is in the tyre.

When checking our tyres once ever week or less all 4 have close to same pressure and instead of 1.3 have 1.25 or similar.

It could of course be a little defect in the rim, but a pro tyre workshop will be able to find that as well.

I use Lexus to keep warranty on the hybrid Battery.

Could also be the valve, especially if you have TPMS sensors which tend to corrode.

If you have a problem that cannot be seen when the Lexus guys connect their computer to your car: go to a specialist.

In my opinion Lexus service personnel can only replace parts when being told by the plug-in instruments they have available.

I had a problem where air would stay in the tire just fine when driving around the city, but getting on the highway would always result in a tpms warning light and a flat tire. Turned out the tpms sensor wasn't tightened on the rim properly. As I got up to speed the valve stem would move due to the larger forces caused by speed, letting air out.

Hopefully you'll get yours resolved too.

Hey!   That was a cracking little puzzle!

Quick update! I had the tyres checked in the local garage. Left front tryes had a leakage through the valve. It is now fixed.

Thanks for all the comments and guidance! 🙂

Excellent. Now you know how much competence Lexus mechanicians have. No error codes = Everything is just fine.

Just a thought: have you found a moment to let Lexus Cambridge know what the solution to your problem turned out to be?

Like most people, I’m sure the mechanics involved will appreciate being given the answer to this particular puzzle.

Not sure the incompetent person will appreciate to be told what he was.

I am not sure if I will waste my time with this! This is just a very simple problem, yet they are selling the most complex engines in the planet. 🙄

Yes that is right but does anyone have any actual information from their dealers on this new model?

Seems that Lexus has had a new model name registered in 2020  according to www.motor.es, so it could be coming:

Lexus prepares a new model. It has only been a few days that the Japanese brand has requested the registration of a new commercial name, although this time with three letters, as opposed to the two that identify its models. It will be called LBX, and it points to a new crossover.

Only the third letter of the name is an indication that it may be a new SUV or a crossover, a characteristic letter that the brands associate with this type of body. The strange thing is that the new commercial name that Lexus has registered in certain countries of the Old Continent contains three letters, compared to two typical ones.

Lexus LBX, thus, has appeared in the patent registers of Europe, and later in Turkey, Israel and Norway, one of the European markets with the highest rate of electric cars. Registration was requested on the 5th and 7th of this month of August, and to which Iceland and Switzerland have also joined. All coinciding not only in the name, but also in the object of the request, that of «Automobiles and their structural parts». Report on the registration of the Lexus LBX name at the European Patent Office

It's not surprising that the luxury brand is facing a new and completely unknown segment, since Koji Saro himself, Executive Vice President of Lexus, took advantage of the last edition of the Tokyo Salon to point out that there was space under the Lexus UX to offer a model more.

But, according to this Chinese source, the commercial name would be the BX, because there is still margin, maybe a change that could involve a more utilitarian model.

And there would be nothing wild to think that the luxury brand would have animated and put two models of segment B in the next few years, for example, to compete with the Audi A1 and Q2.

Could Citroen have already trademarked the BX for use on cars?

Back on topic, I have had the TPMS go off twice after the hot weather, measured the pressures and one was down a few PSI. Topped it up and it was OK. Took it to a tyre place and they could not find anything. It has been ok for a few weeks until again after this hot spell it has gone off again today.  Something causing it to loose pressure in hot weather. Maybe something expands in the valve and it leaks a bit. Ill pump it up again and monitor.

Higher speed causes higher friction. Higher friction causes higher heat. Higher heat causes higher air pressure.

another idea. Could this be because my tyres need balancing and aligning?

It was my thought. You either need an alignment and rim balance or a new tyre.
