Front suspension brace bars

Featured Replies

On the recent MOT it was noted that these were corroded, one severely. I have had them replaced. Never has such a simple job transformed the drive more unexpectedly, drives like a new car now. If anyone has that slight shimmy at around 50/60 mph that some mention, I'd change these first before embarking on expensive suspension mods.

H Nigel, Sorry for the delay, I've not been getting notifications that I can see. P/N 52257-24010 & 52258-24010 (left & right). Cost was £67.35 each and I was charged £50 labour....It's bloody marvelous.

Hi Nick

Thanks for that, I was contemplating what the first step should be when tackling suspension improvement and I think your idea gets 1st prize!

How many miles has your car done and is it believed that the ones replaced were the originals?

(A pic would have been brilliant)

Hi Anthony,

I kept the manky ones that came off. I will take some pics and post them over the next few days. It's such a blindingly obvious thing to do (post event obvs🙂) considering the amount of work they have to do and the twisting effect constantly on them. My car has just passed 76k and they look like the originals. I cannot emphasise enough the magic it has worked on the driving experience.

Best regards.

Nick

Here is the ugly evidence. I reckon the nearside one weighed only half of it's replacement. As someone who is pretty fastidious about maintenance and safety, I was frankly shocked and embarrassed about the state of these. Simple to ignore and overlook. To reiterate, not surprisingly (in hindsight) this change has totally transformed the front end driving experience.

Best regards.

Nick

That's a great link Nigel...Didn't know about those guys...

Thanks once again Nick for your post.

Had the pair fitted today (also paid £50 for fitting) and had a surprise.

The left brace was slightly rusted but the right one was completely missing! All the bolts were in place but the brace was missing?

Now both new ones are fitted and the car drives great. A 150% improvement.

Bloody Hell!!, It's a pretty easy thing to miss though. I am daily staggered about the improvement and delighted to have been able to pass my observations on...

Is this just for the SC 430 or are these “ braces “ on other models too ?

These are specific to the SC as they took the already relatively twisty GS chassis and needed to strengthen it because of the lack of roof.

Can you please supply a diagram of the location of the rear ones so that I know what to look for. Also part numbers.

Wow, this is brilliant info. I've just bought a 2006 model and have the wheel judder through 60mph. I have the car booked into kwikfit this Saturday for wheel balancing and then work from there, i think I'll cancel and get my mechanic to look at the braces this Saturday if he can.  It can only get more expensive from here 😂🤣

A bit of advice, please don’t take your Lexus to Kwik Fit for anything!

I bought my Michelin Sport tyres from Kwikfit and they fitted them on my really expensive 19” 9.5J and 10.5J wheels and I couldn’t fault them. They used endless tape to protect the rims and their most experienced fitter who now works in the office came out to fit them. They took such care it took over an hour and all the younger fitters watched the older guy. I guess I may have been lucky.

Hi Robin, I believe it was your green car we were discussing the other night on X. If you are running standard wheels (like in the pic) I run Michelin Cross-Climates on mine at 28 psi. They cost more but are worth every penny. Along with the new brace bars, it gives the magic carpet ride I demand. If anyone wants sharper handling, sell the SC430 and buy a cheap Porsche 996.

Oh yes, I wholeheartedly agree with Glyn Jennings over Kwik-Fit by the way. I have always used them in multiple outlets around the country and have always found them very professional, careful, knowledgeable and courtesy.

So, anyhow. That was the last run of the year. MOT expires tomorrow. No room in the garage and haven't got the keys to the barn yet, so here she is until later. 1 whole can of Bulldog later...
