Power Steering

Guys, sometimes when I start my IS200 from cold the steering feels very weird. Its like there is a resistance when I try turning the wheel accompanied by a kind of pulsing effect. Its almost like the car has no power steering at all.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is it likely to be something serious like the pump or something? I was thinking maybe the belt is slipping but I cannot hear any unusual noises.

I've checked the fluid level and its fine. It seems to go away after the car is driven for a while.

Any ideas?

Same thing has happened to me a few times. I normally just turn the engine off and start it again. Then the problem is gone.

Mine did exactly the same mate. There was no noise at first so thought it may of been the pump. A few weeks later the noise started so put a new belt on and all is fine.

I thought about the belt but wasn't sure. I'm taking it for a service soon so I might get them to check/replace the belt

mine same, i thinks it the belt aswell, will be popping over to the dealers and pick one up

I'm guessing since they all swapped the belt and never came back to this subject that sorted it out for them so give that a go mate :)

I had the same problem. The only thing i did was tighten the belt. No problems from then (about 3 months).

Maybe this is the first thing to try before you buy a new belt...
