Easiest & Cheapest Way To Boost Performance?

Recommended Posts

I have recently bought a nice 2002 IS200.

I would like to improve the acceleration and torque.

So what is the easy way to accomplish this, without huge parts bills and shocking mechanics bills. I am very limited in my mechanical ability so anything too technical would have to be done professionaly.

Not too many pennies left after buying her....

Thanks in advance.

well you have your basics of induction kit and exhaust systems

Then you have a bolt on supercharger new - ~2500 from tdi

or 2nd hand i got a nearly new one for 1800 ish.

these are very simple mods and anyone can fit them, not hard.

Then you have expensive mods of turbo modification.

Also another good investment is lowering springs, improves handling a lot, as with chassis braces and anti roll bars.

Depends where you will be driving, and how much more power you want and your budget

Easiest way is to sell the lexus :P

Seriously though if youre after serious power you have to spend pennies. I would just get a car that is stock 200+BHP.

The lex is comfort and prestige i cant warrant spending all that cash on mods jsut to see it gain bits and bats of power.

The supercharger is definitely a good mod but personally i would put the £3000+ toward another car.

I am enjoying my tank and the lack of power at the moment so i am happy :D

Probably get an Mitsi evolution or something in that league in about 12mnths.

I am looking to lift car from stock 153 bhp to around the 200 bhp mark.

Would prefer not to spend thousands.  Up to perhaps £750.

Any ideas or is it all or nothing?

Thanks

only feasable way is to use NOs

to add 25% more power to most cars will cost more than £750 ;)

induction kit, manifold,de cat, rear silencer would get you 35/40 bhp but would be £800/£900 from prolex....are future proof as well as if you go for the s/c later on they would then probably give you a reliable 230/240

personally I'd look to uprate the suspension first as not slowing down for the twisty bits is just as much fun :D

I'm curious as to what basic performance enhancement can be made to the iS250 as well. Any ideas? it's stock is 204 bhp. Aim to get to 256 bhp

Decatted manifold, down pipe & free flow cat back, plus induction will get you around 190rwhp. Any more and you'll need to remap the ECU and fit a VVTi controller.

Trouble is.......most of this kit available for the new IS yet!

Sell your car and buy an IS300 from an independent or privately. I am serious.

200bhp plus xenons, better steering and full leather. bargain!

................ :shifty:

210BHP, Full Leather, Arm Rest, HID, Bigger Displacement ........ ;)

Ok, so it weighs more than the IS200 .... but who cares .... !

Its a shame because looking at my is200 it looks mean (full trd kit, kazama exhaust, black diamond discs and 18" styling alloys) that should do more than it does. It deserves the 200+bhp mark easily, if not more but unfortunately it is like a tank.

Really tempted by the supercharger but again as i stated before a couple of grand more and you are looking at some cars stock 250+Bhp.
