Any tropical fish ppl out there? I know SF, but his fish are small fry compared to these bad boys.

African cichlids... about 20 of them!

Riding in a 190litre Trigon tank.

Running an extra Fluval 205 for extra ooompf.

Ahh, a wide screen fish tank :D ............I think cichlids are much more interesting than normal fish..........I had a couple of tropical fish tanks many years ago..Cichlids in one and a mixture of Gouramis in the other.......Well done Derek :winky:

malawi or tanganyika chiclids?? with the coral in there you want to watch your water levels as the coral will break down and increase your KH - same with rainbow rock, or substrate that has crushed shells in it.

any reason why you went with the fluval instead of eheim?

nice SW tank - would also like on ebut the cost of the equip u need is huge

250L sal****er tropical

PS Oh for goodness sake, why can't I say salt water

Amazing how big tanks can get.

I know sal****er are a lot harder to look after. Looks very colourful though.

P.S. I can see Nemo!

P.P.S. Just realised what you meant by cant say salt water... Admins???

PPPS. How do you go about taking photos of your tank? I struggle with/without flash = reflection/blurry images...

They are mainly Malawis. I didn't know about the coral breaking down issues. Will do a water test when I get a chance and keep an eye...

I've only heard of Fluval at the moment...

Thanks Pete.

All good things get broadcast in widescreen nowadays

I agree on cichlids - a lot more colourful than most "standard" tropical fish like guppies or tertras. Bigger too! But risk of a water-based royal rumble :duh:

sal****er - what do the middle letters spell???? that is why you have to type salt water and not sal****er

I don't see what the problem is!

Both Orkney and Shetland have places called ****t. The one in Orkney was an RAF station during WW2, so sal****er should be perfectly acceptable as both ****ts.

Oops, I press the wrong button before completing my point then :duh:

Could a moderator please explain why T.W.A.T.T and S.A.L.T.W.A.T.E.R (sans . )are unacceptable words? Families live in T.W.A.T.T and I am sure they would be very offended to hear their homes were classed as offensive words. As for S.A.L.T.W.A.T.E.R, it covers 70% of the worlds surface, so if it offends anyone then they need to look for another planet to live on.

i have a 100 gallon salt water tank, using an internal JEBO filtration system and a 30 gallon external sump. although trops are nice, the beauty of sallt water fish is unquestionable!

currently, i have 20cm long porcupine puffer, dog-faced puffer, skunk grouper, niger trigger, zebra eel, scorpion lionfish and the biggest golden damsal on the earth :lol: did want a blue-spotted ray, but not wish with the puffer's and trigger :crybaby:

how long have you had the tropical tank set-up for??

so how is the new tank going? if the water has gone cloudy dont worry too much its an algae bloom and will clear after a few days - but keep an eye on your water quality levels.

also to make water changes soooooo easy have a look for a device called a python. lee's also make one but if you can find a water bed refill kit that will cost you $6 then just use that

As for the how to take good photos, you need to adjust your exposure time, set it quicker to avoid getting blurring images.

also remember that as u have sand as your substrate( gravel) that anerobic spots will form so u will need to stil it up a bit every few weeks - caution it doesnt get into your fluval filter tho or it will destroy the impeller

i've recently had a nitrate spike in my salt water set-up. not had any problems with nitrate since the tank was set-up and it kinda puzzled me :duh:

my local salt water specialist suggested it may be due to the fact i'm feeding live freshwater feeders to my babies?? but saying that, this set-up has been fine for a year or so now!!

might change to raw shrimp, dunno if that'll help.
