Altezza Rs Tiptronic

Recommended Posts

i have just brought a 2001 altezza rs automatic it has the d/m shift and the display by the clocks showing that its in semi auto mode but i have no tiptronic buttons on the steering wheel! the steering wheel looks original with altezza imbedded in the leather and its half carbon fibre. i wondered if my car left the factory as a tiptronic and someone has changed the wheel or if its supposed to be like that???

cheers,

Joe :

That's strange ........... when you flick the gear lever over to (M) does it have '5' on the dash display ?

Why would someone take away the gear selectors from the steering wheel?!

thats not right... take it back!

it should have a left and right "down" button on the front and left and right "up" buton on the rear...

maybe it was in a frontal collision and the airbag was deployed... lazy cheap skate who repaired it probably just swapped the whole wheel....?

That is what I think of is well, as the seller try to pretent is fully automatic rather than tiptronic to some buyer, if you cant solve the steering wheel with the seller you can send me a pm and we can arrange to exchange the sterring wheel with mine as i have change from AT to MT so there is no use of those function anymore but before you do that please check either your airbag is working as some people might just install one without airbag on as it cost much less to buy.

well the fact the wheel is half effect carbon fibre, id just say it was swapped cos it looks nicer, not everyone likes using the buttons, maybe a previous owner didnt!

if any part of the airbag system wasnt working the fault light would illuminate on the dash

On the topic of Tipronic. Any of you guys have any tips on using it(Tiptronic)? I got my car(RS200) about a month now .. and I'm try-n to get use to the tip....

P.s. I don't wanna mash up the engine or anything.

For my Is300 semi-auto I find it best using M mode on windy roads to preselect gears in advance of corners (with either PWR mode on or off). For straighter roads it's easier using wither M mode with PWR off or just leave it in D and press PWR if you need a bit of kick when overtaking. There's that many electronic gizmos on the Lexus that it is pretty much impossible to over-rev it or change down when your not meant to be able to.

Hope that helps!!

Unless the bulb or LED's been pulled. Should light up when you first turn the key though, right?
