Ball Joints

Sorry I'm sure it's been done to death but...

How long do they usually last?

My car is 54 plate with 55k miles on the clock. It drives great but sometimes when I turn the wheel at low speeds (usually on an incline) I hear a quiet clonk from the front end.

I think the ball joint(s) need doing then?

Don't really want to get them done unless they really need doing, but I want to get the geometry done, and don't want to do that if the ball joints will have to be done...

could be pads moving in the calipers

its the pads moving about get new pins and spring kit for the brakes

ps ask wozza if his move/make a noise after me and mark

did his brakes

It's worse with more weight in the car i.e. passengers.

Could it still be the pads?

If it's too early for the car to be needing ball joints then I'm well happy, means the geometry can be done, but I'd not heard of the pad issue before

i have same problem.

but mine does on bumpy roads, and when comes to stand still.

Previous owner replaced ball joints about 8 month ago, but i defenetly know she needs new pads, makes noise when braking.

i hope its pads moving.

Thanks - I've got an MoT on Saturday so I'll ask them to check both the pads and the ball joints but it is sounding like the pads

Ive just posted something similar. Im getting my geomtry done next thursday but have a knocking noise coming from drivers wheel, only when im on a bumpy surface. Im taking my car to garage today, so will mention to the guy about the brake thing.

let me how what the out come is please, ive got this issue but i can only hear it from o/s front on bumps. so im guess the chance are mine will be the joints.

I will let you know what they find. Hopefully it's just the pads and I can get on with getting the geometry done

if it is ball joints, i know there are some on eBay, not sure of quality, but i also think prolex dave has some in stock.

the dreaded 'knock'..the only make of car in the world that has an undiagnosable 'knock'

Ive got the knock, my whole car has been virtually replaced and the knock still exists..there is only one cure and at the moment its the Kings of leon...very loud B)
