My New Clocks

Recommended Posts

Looking very nice Steve.

I've seen these dials are not for later models, my instrument cluster has a different code on it, but they look very similar, what is it that means they won't fit the later cars?

I think it's just (or at least mainly) the fact that the Battery and rear light failure indicators swapped places (odd as that may seem), or something like that. Compare the position of those with yours.

I wondered what that "XE 01" code meant. Yours has a different code then ?

Thanks for the comments. I absolutely love the new dials, it's something else that puts a smile on my face every time I get behind the wheel.

Big, big thanks to Jason for fitting them for me. I probably could have done it myself, but (not saying they're too hard to fit, more about my own lack of ability) there would have been a lot of swearing involved though

Yes mine says XE-03A I think.

Not sure why they revised it because there hardly seems to be any noticeable difference.

Think the Sport and TTE one looks great! Are they hard to fit? Time cost etc?

Jason did it for me, but I watched him to do it. Basically you need to take the clocks out, which is a pretty easy job, I'm sure even a numpty like me could do that ok, just undoing a few screws etc then disconnecting the cables to the clocks (sorry you might already know this bit).

The only fiddly bit is attaching the dials themselves. They go on over the top of what's there already, but you need to ease them over the needles (i.e. pushing the centre of the disc over the needle, which is a pretty tight fit), and be *very* careful not to scratch the paint on the existing dials (e.g. red bits on the rev counter). I think there's tape on the back of the discs to help prevent this, but you still need to be careful.

The dials stick on with industrial-strength sticky tape.

You then need to just get rid of any potentially annoying finger marks, bits of fluff etc, then close it all back up again and reinstall the clocks.

It shouldn't take more than an hour really.
