Air Con Smell Funny

Recommended Posts

Its also better to keep the AC turned on through out the year regardless of the weather, keeps it fresh even though it will not actually cool below around 8C.

But all the gases and oil will be circulating in the system and that helps keep the seals in good condition.

AC isn't just for help keeping cool. You should use it as a heater in cold weather to preserve the seals and prevent bacteria building up in the vents, which are no doubt the cause of your smell.

Hi all, still trying to learn bout lexus. When i push d AC button, d air coming out from d vent smell 'dusty'. I know its winter and d air con hasn't been used for a while. Anyway to 'clean' this? Thanks.

Sanitise it then - common issue with any aircon, not just Lexus.

Sorry bit late reviving this topic but just sorted the air con 'odours' in my IS200.

Fitted new cabin/pollen filter and had a go with a can of 'Comma Air Con Cleaner'.

Now it smells lovely and clean and job only took about 20 mins start to finish.

Good product I'll be sure to remember and use again if required. :shifty:

I bought one of those cans by locktight i think, that you put in the car with the aircon on the whole can is used and must get sucked in and is supposed to get rid of bacteria and smells, it made no difference at all to the smell, If you dont use the aircon often it will smell musty. I had mine re gassed and its been ok but it did cost me £90 but im in the trade and it will. prob cost you more now hope this this helps

When you use your aircon in summer on cold it is always a good idea to run it on hot for a couple of minutes before you turn the engine off. This helps to dry out the system and help prevent bacteria from growing/multiplying.
