I am so pleased with my 2nd hand GS300 apart fom the Boot/Trunk. It opens great with the key but when any wind is blowing every time I unload it the lid keeps shutting with a slam - its caught me on the arm once - Ouch!! My husband had a look but cannot see anything you could alter/tighten to stop it doing this. One day its going to hurt someone so anyone's help, advice etc would be much appreciated. I had to open it at lest 4 times this week while I was unloading shopping - petty but annoying!!

Thanks.

sounds like you need to replace the 2 struts that hold the boot open

Unfortunately, on the mk2 GS, there are no damping struts. They work using torsion bars. The outer end of the torsion bars do have three or four (can't remember exactly how many) adjustment points. You need to pull the trim out from the top of each side of the boot (you can see where the torsion bars disappear behind the trim - they are the metal rods that span the boot opening just above the opening). Not sure which way you need to move them, or where yours will be adjusted to, but might be worth moving them to see if it improves things.

My Mk 1 has a boot lid that eats you if you're not careful as well, it's caught me on the back of the head twice now. Does the mk 1 have the previously mentioned tension adjuster? Soz to hijack the thread by the way :)

The mk1 has gas struts. There is a place in Derby that re-gasses them at a decent price, can't remember their name though.
