Is 6 To Many?

Recommended Posts

I bought my IS300 with 13k miles and it has done it since i got it, so i didn't think anything of it, how many times does the engine crank before it starts on your is300? Mine takes about 2-3 seconds to start once I turn the key, seems way to long, I have a Ford SUV and it takes less than one second.

Any thoughts?

There was last year a mod your dealer could do concerning problems starting. Contact them and see what they say, it requires them to reprogramme the ECU with some updated info.

I had a Supra for 3 years and my GS for 2 years now and they both always took/take 4-6 turns to fire up when cold. Seems to be common on these engines. They never failed to start though.

When I had a faulty Battery it just cranked slower - still took 4-6 turns but a second or two longer.

A lot of people on IS300.net have seen improvements when they fitted a grounding kit.

Quick question...

do you allow the "air bag" and "engine management" light go out before you try and start it...

seems when i turn and turn the key as soon as its in the hole it wont fire up straight away. But once you wait for those lights to go out its happy as "Larry"

cant say i've ever had that problem, car starts instantly

but as someone said earlier, sometimes when the car's been left in the cold for a while, it doesnt start as instantly

anything to worry about?

Actually, I have a grounding kit, I never noticed any improvement, and that is about what it takes, 5-6 cranks, never in cold weather tho, its 110 degrees here in california. When I take it in for the next service, 1000 more miles, ill have them check it, im not to worried though.

My 300 starts straight away - no delay :)

I did have a problem with my previous 200 refusing to start on a couple of occassions. Took it to the dealer (who fixed it). Got chatting and they said there was a known problem with some earlier 300's, and as Chris mentioned, Lexus advised reprogramming the ECU which cures it.
