New Owner After Advice Please.

Hi Guys

Just bought the first of the facelift LS 430's it is registered on a 53 plate end of September 2003. Everything works on the car apart from the camera only works intermittantly and does not most of the time. I am not too concerned but was wondering if anybody else has had that issue and fixed it for reasonable cost. Lastly does anybody know if all facelift LS430's came with Bluetooth at all as do need it but did not check as forgot. Looking forward to getting it over the weekend as had a lot of Japanese cars but never a Lexus.

I am really looking forward to it my Dad had a IS300 and was looking at one of those but really fancied the LS.

Hello and welcome to the LOC.

I seem to remember previous posts regarding the reversing camera on the LS430 and from that there have been reported problems with them. Lexus will simply replace the camera unit in exchange for many pounds.

If it is intermittent it may be worth giving the camera a tap with you hand to see if the fault appears/disappears and check the wiring to it.

I don't think there are any direct aftermarket replacements but if you may be able to get it repaired at a TV repair shop ( if there are still any out there!)

I was going to get a guy to check the wiring hopefully that will do it. I guess it just wires into the reversing lights initially so may have a look there myself for anything obvious although I am not at all handy with stuff like that.

Hi, and welcome, I can't with the camera although knowing what little I do about car electrics I doubt it will simply be connected to the reverse lights. Not all facelifts had Bluetooth so check for the telephone option in the menus

Cameras have an issue with water ingress, camera knackers itself down.

Only option is to replace it. Eventually you will be left with a blank screen with the guidelines when reversing.

Ok well look into the second hand cameras that are on the Toyotas, they have the same connection and a bit of messing around could be a close to a direct swap.

Thanks ipwn I was looking at this site http://www.parkingcameras.com/store/home.php?cat=10 but was not sure if they would work or not. I never realised one of the Toyota one's might work with a little work.

Na they're crap, look into the Toyota side of things. If I remember correctly its from Prius or Land Cruiser, something like them

Scour the classifieds etc for a breaking car - you might be able to get the part you need from a donor car.
