Recommended Posts

Hi chaps, i've seen this on Fleabay, Seems a pretty honest example with the recent LPG conversion and recentish cambelt. Just thinking it's sligtly overpriced?

Thanks for the replies. Im unable just to go and view the car as it's 160 odd miles away from me. I know this is a long shot but if anyone fancies a nose around the car that lives nearby where it's located feel free :D Beer tokens would be available. I was thinking more around the 3k mark or am i being WAY over optimistic.

If you are interested in the car and are going to part with your money not someone else's you need to go and look at the car .It is unfair to ask someone else to look at it and then make a decision on their opinion should it turn ot to be a wrong un everybody is going to feel bad .I bought my LS400 last year on my own thoughts and research ,that involved a trip to Cheltenham from Glasgow. It turned out to be the buy of the century and it was a grand above book but I thought it was worth it and it as proved so .

I agree with all the above. I know it has many head turning goodies, ie LPG and cam belt replaced all the more reason for making sure yourself that it is everything the guy says it all, I agree this guy is a trader so double check everything. Don't forget its easy for traders to come up with invoices for all sorts of things.

Buyer Beware. Mike

Converted to LPG only two months ago, and now for sale.

That would make me very cautious.

This is what i was thinking! I'll think ill pass for the time being. I did message the seller yesterday, no reply as of yet.

Well, I don't think it is a bad price with that mileage as mine was more than that with a higher mileage and I thought I got a good deal. Mine is 100% Straight but no LPG - So either I paid too much or this is a good deal (on the face of it)

Yes I bought it for £2.5K really nice and as described, it's up for sale at £3K if your still interested............ Only Joking :)

I also messaged the guy and got the reply as below, not relevant now but did sound genuine.

"hi thre reson for my sale is i have a chance of buying a v8 engine for my ford capri which will cost around 2k . it has 3 owners and drives faultless please feel free to ring me . test drive a must,i have the lpg certificate thanks"

I was going to suggest he dropped a nice UCF10 LS400 engine in his Capri certainly available at a lot less than the 2K he is planning on spending.

Having one already converted is not necessary the best route to take.

In the last couple of years the LPG conversions have become far more competent but there are alot out there that are nothing more than a mobile bomb.

Be very careful when buying one already converted. Mike

I wounder to, still annoyed I missed it. I'm in contact with a couple of guys about theirs. One on here and the other on pistonheads. Is it worth paying the extra for the face lift?

Personally I don't thin so as most have after market parking sensors and the BT on the facelift is phone call only and not music. Other than that you are paying for year of manufacture. Personally I think with these cars it is service history and mileage first and then age comes into it.

The chap I'm talking to on pistonheads, his sounds very clean. I'm pretty interested. Just again think the price Is a little high. This is what he sent

A few particulars about the car: Lexus LS430 Premium PackPlatinum Ice with Charcoal leather2001 51 plate89000 milesFSH, with 5 stamps with Lexus Bolton (supplying dealer) and 3 stamps with Sampson Lexus Specialists. Services at 8k, 15k, 23k, 35k, 53k, 62k, 72k and 82k miles.Cambelt done less than 1000 miles ago by Sampsons, not needed for another 90k miles or 10 years.Matching Dunlops all round.Wheels recently refurbished to a superb standardMOT to be done this week (it's due soon)5 months taxBody immaculate. No pin dents, ripply panels, no scrapes on bumpers, no bad paintwork. Odd stone chip and mark if you look closely but superb for the age.Interior immaculate. Drives perfectly and exactly as it should. Couple of things to mention.Car is booked in to have a new air con pipe fitted this week, the pipe in question has a tiny leak and the AC pressure drops within 7-8 weeks of gassing. Problem area has been identified using the UV dye and it will be sorted.Small area of clouding on pass side front window. Very common.Steering column electric adjustment hardly moves, the motors do work though. Adjustable manually by removing the column shroud, or can be sorted by shimming and greasing the plastic mechanism. Again, very common fault, plenty of information on the forums. Small bubble on passenger door where lower trim meets panel. Barely noticeable, and seems a shame to have the panel painted, so I haven't had it done. They are superb cars, silent inside, supremely comfortable, with fantastic build quality. I would advertise it at £4200ono if it went up for sale.

There is a lot of niggles there,he talks of common faults as if they were designed in but as not addressed them. The clouded window will eventually fail the mot and costs a fortune to replace. Shame to address bubbled paintwork ;how much as he cared for the car?The steering adjustment is fixable if the fault is as subscribed on the forums otherwise its an expensive replacement part.

There are too many faults on this car for the price and the fact he as not addressed them means there could be other underlying issues.

Some good points to the car for sure, service history and recent belt change for example.

But he's asking top dollar, and for that price, the car should not have any obvious faults, particularly cloudy windows.

I wouldn't knock yourself out about missing the other car either, as it could have been a right nail for all you know.

I've lost count of the number of cars I've gone to see that were nowhere near as described.

Thanks gents. Appreciate your opinion. I'll hold out for the time being then. I do prefer the face lift but don't fancy paying the extra premium for it. There's nothing that floats my boat at the moment that I've found for sale. But I'll keep and eye out and post anything here. It will be my first lexus so advice is appreciated. If you see anything would be nice if you could pop it on here :-)

The paint bubble worries me too ....... it is probably rusting from the inside from new, a common fault mentioned on here and the only real solution is a new door ... possibly under the 12 year warranty if he gets in quick !

But you knew that anyway I guess from reading the Forum pieces !!
