  2. I have a 2005 Mk3 GS300 SE-L. I bought it privately at 58,000 last year. The documented service book was not available from the owner, I was going to walk away from the possible deal! I verified the mot certificates and mileage online whilst looking around the car. It all checked out, the overall impression was that it had been well maintained; I was confident in the car as it was a steal (I offered the owner a lot less than the asking price) and in beautiful condition with fresh oil showing up on the dipstick. The day after I bought it I contacted Lexus who sent out a replacement service book stamped up to 48,000 before the then current owner who had it serviced by a local mechanic. I also checked the recall history with Lexus which was up to date. I am now at 62,000 and make sure that I use it for decent journeys (not tootling around town for 5 mins), in Scotland where I live there is little in the way of traffic which allows me to cruise easily. I just covered 260 miles with 5 adults who loved the quiet unflustered ride and the leg room in the back. Everything works on the car apart from the drivers side puddle light on the mirror. I may have to replace the rear shocks as the service inspection showed a possible leak on both. I had a Volvo V 70 T5 before which was so powerful and I thought I'd miss it but I have to say this, the Lexus is a joy to drive, so relaxing and power when you need it and also economical! I did take a risk buying privately but it was worth it as the car has proven excellent.

  3. Good news, and strange news! I didn't think the bulb could go in upside down.

  4. Always good news a straight pass with no advisories, mine has failed twice in 10 years, once on lower balljoints and last time on corroded rear brake pipes but never had any advisories, can't grumble for a 22 year old car, most at that age have been crushed by now. A couple more years and it may hit the 100,000 mile mark.

  5. That's a lovely looking car and well done on the purchase. I do have some recognition oh what Moriwaki said, I had a LS460 for a day a while back as I was planning to swap my LS400 - the noise and the ride did shock me, it felt nowhere as refined as the LS400 and I put this down to the 19 inch wheels and the tyres - seems from other comments that changing the tyres will help but I just found it to be not what I was expecting for something newer with far less miles. In terms of loss, it beat my LS hands down - it looked terrific on my drive but I could not go ahead because it just didn't feel right. Hopefully it will turn out well for you and keep us informed as you get to know the car better.

  6. You should be pleasantly surprised by the "CVT" in the Lexus which is actually not really a conventional CVT anyway. The Juke CVT is genuinely horrid down to the fact that the 1.6l engine is too noisy and the CVT tries to act like a gearbox in that it changes gears, very odd! The one in the Lexus is smooth as silk - honestly you won't notice it much unless accelerating very hard.

  7. Don't forget there's a fifth seat too. You can fit a large suitcase and strap it down with the seat belt. It also keeps the kids apart, which is a godsend on long journeys. :)

  8. Hi Keith it's saying you can't receive messages. Hi Keith. I don't want anything for it. But if you want to you can donate a couple of pound to a charity walk my wife is doing. It's for treasure boxes for children with brain and spinal tumours. Go on to just giving.com. And it's indee rose trust. And search for my wife Jacqueline Jordan Harris. Don't feel obliged to though I'll still send it. Mail me your address. Thanks

  9. Lovel;y car - had my eye on that one - I really need to take the missus to see a isf and try and convince its a good baby car - although i did show her the interior (being whiteish) she said that wasn't very good. Had my eye on a is since 2008 - still like the shape etc, I think the cars have aged well personally. Maybe thats a good thing I didn't take her to see this one due to the exhaust - I would then have to explain they don't all sound like that etc etc.

  10. There are loads of adds like this where they don't have a phone number and the description is of the same style and the car way cheaper than all the other of a similar spec/age...they are scams!!!!

  13. Hi everyone :) I have just bought a 2000 I think IS200 for not much and am sorting it out. I am a Royal Academy Hons Graduate, piano, violin/keys 1. Because we only earn a profit of about £50 per orchestral gig I'm poor, and also as I love engineering I'm a home mechanic. I also perform solo for weddings and concerts :) If anyone would like any tips after I sort each item just let me know, in future I'll try to video the repairs for youtube. The front brakes were seized on. So we jacked the front end of the car up, used axle stands and old car wheels under the sills, as I don't want to die under a car, or brake my car when it falls off a jack ;) 2) we unbolted the 1/2 of the caliper which has the pipe going into it 3) we supported this to stop damage to pipe etc. 4) using a HUGE C or G clamp ( whatever it's called) we swore a lot and tried to wind the pistons back into a caliper. You can crack the bleed screw to make this easier (maybe). 5) this didn't work, so using the giant clamps to stop pistons shooting off, we carefully 'limited' the pistons forward movement, pumped pedal and got them out as far as we could. 6) we eased back rubber dust cover, and gently removed uneven corrosion ( use flat blade of screw driver with skill and care, and very fine wet and dry forming a semi circular shape with your hand. 7) we drank coffee and swore lots more. 8) we used spray silicon grease getting right into the mating surfaces of pistons and barrels. 9) we gently tried to turn the pistons ( no idea if this causes the world to end, but I don't think so) a little using a mole wrench on the very end of the piston only, NOT the bit that has to be a tight and smooth fit in the barrel. 9) more coffee then we wound the barrels back using the clamps. 10) used a very thin, very even coating of copper ease on all slidding surfaces: behind rubber gaskets of sliding mechanism, on barrell ends, back of pads etc. then we had to move them forwards using pedal (engine off) and wind back x 5 until movement correct. 11) cleaned any wd40/much from discs and tested that the brakes work and release. 12) refitted road wheels, and lowered car and test drove it LOVELY :) Next full service at home, followed by paying someone to respray allows and bumpers :)

  14. Good luck Aaron. Check the DVLA MOT website for its MOT history and ask the local Lexus Dealer if they can tell you of its Service history from their computerised records. And speak soonest with the previous owner. Regards Johni

  15. Love it that's its such a small community and members buy cars that others have owned. Not many forums can do that.

  17. Well there are a few things: First get the lowest spec car so it weighs the least :) (or just get the one with all the toys and enjoy ;) ) Put the car in Eco mode Press the Off button to turn off AC and heating Have the dash display on power display so you know when engine on, get up to speed and back off accelerator till only battery used Seat heaters are more efficient than cabin heating Normal mode will prioritise things like getting the cabin up to temp so a cold morning in normal mode the engine will be on a lot to warm up A nice day with the window down, AC off, eco mode on and travelling about 30mph on steady flowing roads will get you pretty much your maximum mpg

  18. no that is incorrect open the tailgate and on the inside there are some covers remove the inner two you can then see the plug rotate it and the wiring and bulb holder will come out together, its a little awkward but it can be done in 5 minutes a side, its just the standard wedge 5w bulb.
