  1. hey, hang on a minute ..... just searched the forums here and I wrote a piece in Jan 2015 in that I had just checked with Lexus if my car had been recalled for the starter motor replacement that was announced many years prior... it had been and there were no Recalls outstanding. Maybe you too could check if yours was dealt with under that Official Recall, and if not, well, maybe, just maybe Lexus will replace it for you Malc

  3. Had the old girl for nearly three years and 32,000 miles and apart from fuel and 3 services she hasn't cost me a penny until now . Went out yesterday morning to pick up the papers at the newsagent turned the key only to get the dreaded clicking noise and it appears the starter has packed up after 22 years...absolutely shocking state of affairs and Lexus should be ashamed of themselves !!! anyway, new one being fitted on Tuesday for £475 which is apparently a swine of a job requiring removal of the cylinder head to get access. All things considered I don't think I've much to complain about as she once again passed her annual MOT in August without a single advisory in fact she hasn't had any in the 3 years I've had her which is more than I can say for the rest of my cars including a 3 year old Porsche Cayenne!! The crazy thing is the wife said to me yesterday instead of spending money on the "hearse" why not trade it in for something better and that after me having just forked out £800 on a service and repairs to her 4 year old Suzuki Swift!!! .... think I might sleep in the spare room from now on

  4. Yep Steve the same car I have a mobile mechanic who is going to fit a brand new starter for me on Tuesday I thought about a recon unit but because its such a pain to fit decided new was the best way to go... I'm not complaining the car has been nothing other than brilliant over the past 3 years

  9. Cost of components to repair starter is under £20. Labour should be around £200 - I was £150 for the job if I remember. Pete

  10. You can check if your car needs a recall here: https://forms.toyota.co.uk/lexus-recall-checker I have checked yours and it seems there are no recalls outstanding.

  11. Chap lives and works out of Bulgaria, but believe is a British chap. Comes well recommended from a Rover Meet i attended where i bloke showed me his Rover75 with wood dash etc fitted from this chaps kit and it was top class and a good price. Far less than those American kits. So i live in hope, and i do have to say that he has been most helpful and gone to quite a bit if trouble searching for a suitable kit for my car. We shall see.

  13. Good afternoon guys, Today I had had enough of the noise coming from my ls430's rear end every, speed bump, dip in the road, and corners oh god I started to hear it in my sleep. Well after 6 months of looking on the forum's and poking at the car, (changed the rear anti-roll bar bushes, silicone greased everything else up) I finally made up my mind to fix it or kill it. After jacking the car up (hard enough on the ls with the jacking point crushed in at some point) I pulled my wheel off and pulled out my coil-over strut (like the way I said that? made it sound easy didn't I one hour and a hammer) I found the spring had come out of alignment and the rubber ring thingy had torn so allowing the end of the coil to rub against the head of a bolt. Ok so at this point I was wondering how I was going to get it back on as I could not get my link arms off without cutting them. I woke a friend up who went heroically went to the shops in south London and jumped on the train to bring me a set of spring compressors. I then gave the coil a squeeze wiggled it around and refitted it all (again making it sound easy and missing out the bits which sounded like *#/*~#). So the moral of the story is.... a squeek does not always come from the anti- roll bar bushes, I hope no one else has to do this. Have a great days guys.

  14. Do tell all. Is he UK based? will it be wood/laminate? At what cost? I posted pictures of the Dash Kit I purchased and fitted under a different thread title in the LS400 Forum. Did you see them? Hope yours will be a better fit without needing modifications which were time consuming.

  16. Just moved into a CT from a 2011 Merc C Class. Lexus is far more refined and the notorious firm ride hasn't made an appearance yet, it's certainly no firmer than any of the big 3 German manufacturers. Mine runs on 16" wheels. It's no sports car (regardless of designation) but it does encourage a relaxed mode of driving. The hybrid stuff is witchcraft, just let it do its thing. The standard sound system is more than adequate although I'm struggling to deal with the DAB setup. Fit and finish of the cabin is certainly on a par, if not slightly better, than the Merc. It's only when you look low down in the cabin do you see the slightly cheaper plastics and toyota switchgear. The leather trim is lovely and so much better than the velour or velour/vinyl options. On a well surfaced road the refinement of the CT is remarkable, it's so quiet. On our usual surfaces it's fine albeit firm but I certainly don't find it uncomfortable. I haven't regretted the move from Merc at all.

  19. Check the coils on top of the spark plugs are clean and dry. Add some injector cleaner to the fuel, and change the plugs this hopefully will stop the misfires. If the car has been standing for some time the fuel in the tank may not be that good. The timing chain theory is very doubtful. With the VCI at the beginning of the process you have to choose a type number from memory 0707/0707-0708/0708. Try a different number as I had a similar problem and choosing a different number enabled access to all the ECUs. I do not wish to jump the gun on the humming noise, but this can be a shorted winding on MG1 if it does it while standing still or a wheel bearing when on the move. Shorted winding's will be picked up by the VCI. John

  20. Your description of the fault is a little confusing saying (quote) "When the car tries to start now there is a horrible grinding noise from the transmission tunnel area." Then "it now appears to start and run fine." The 12 volt battery is nothing special. It does have a temperature sensor that can be removed, and fitted to the top of a replacement. This sensor helps control the charging voltage for the 12 volt battery. Can you get the car into ready mode? Put the car in drive with the parking brake off holding the foot brake firmly on with your left foot. Then apply some accelerator. The display should show the traction battery charging. This is called force charging, and is safe to do as all the engine power goes to MG1 (motor generator one) to provide a charging voltage. John
