  1. i just go for the steering wheel/ pedal lock, but i live in a very low car crime area (Lands end!) so it doesnt bother me much. If ur worried and it will put ur mind at ease go for the tracker.
  2. funny u mention this, when i was working on the rear bumber, i kept getting a burning smell as if a wire was overheating - i was doing some wiring at the time,(battery was disconnected) never found what it was, chris, do you normally do long runs?, I sometimes get a wiff of plastic/rubber but nothing is burning or melting s who knows what it is. ( its not the cats).
  3. here is one for you steve!!! i was wondering about this as well.
  4. i have only used it once, now i just use the todays posts feature and check the posts from there. robbie
  5. what it does is make the air charge denser, hence more air in the same area = more O2 as well as causing the engine to run smoother. you get a similar effect when driving in the rain a denser air charge, but it would depend where the water is introduced into the intake system and the control unit for it.
  6. the fan is sure to be a centrifugal/radial type, but without having a close look at the fan /housing itself,i cant really say any more. Ill have a good look on tuesday and get back to you that evening. robbie. [Edited on 25-2-2002 by fluff34567]
  7. i use the autolock 2000, when i got mine it was the best in the test ( 2 yrs ago) but Disklok has redesigned theirs since then. I can only speak for the autolock - the lock mechanism is sometimes fiddly to use and to be honest it is a major pain in the arse, the locking mechanism looks a bit cheap but seems to work ok. my friend has the disklok, the advantage of that is it covers the whole steering wheel and rotates around it, and the bar folds inside the cover, and i believe the disk also folds inside itself to make it a more smaller when not in use. another option is a device called " bullock" it clamps around the clutch and brake pedals, i have used this many times in S.Africa, where it is very popular. http://www.bullock.it/inglese/tipe.html robbie.
  8. Hi george, Welcome to the club! yes the fan motor/plenum chamber is behind the glovebox - (look at this post on how to remove the glovebox) http://www.teamlexus.co.uk/forums/viewthread.php?tid=412 With the radio off i can hear the fan running as well as the airflow, i dont notice it when the fan is on low, but i do when on its on medium. ill have a look into it in the next few days and let you know if there is something we can do. I suspect that a oil wick or something has dried??How old is your car?? regards robbie [Edited on 8-3-2002 by fluff34567]
  9. hi , i did some checking and this so called 'security flaw' is nothing to worry about, as far as im concerned it would be a major hastle to try and exploit it. Please dont ask me to tell you what it is! robbie.
  10. for the pic have a look at the link: http://www.is300.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t...7250&forum=1&20 robbie.
  11. ok, bit of confusion here, try and clear this up as we are talking about 2 different situations. 1: Normal driving - with the PWR button on, it will let the engine rev higher than normal mode before the higher gear engages. 2: Driving PWR button on - floor accelerator pedal: this will cause the downshift to be a lot quicker and the resulting lower gear revs to be higher than compared to normal mode. sure i have that right? robbie.
  12. X-pel (Which is just one companies brand name) is a clear adhesive plastic film made by 3M, it is applied to areas of the car that suffers from paint chips, ie the front section of the hood. I use it because the paint is so soft and even though its described as "anti - chip" lets face it, the lexus paint is crap. There are already pieces on the IS200, if you look at the rear wheel arch on the forward side there is a little strip there, that is the same material as the x-pel. i have only had one paint chip since i put it on, but it only covers the front of the hood so you will get chips on the back edge of the hood. Be aware the is300 has a different profile hood so the is300 will not properly with out a minor modification. if anyone is thinking of getting this let me know and ill tell u what u need to do. regards robbie. more info at: http://www.xpel.com/paint/scotchal.html http://www.xpel.com/gallery.html [Edited on 24-2-2002 by fluff34567]
  13. thats good, that is what i get on the 200 on a long run. robbie
  14. why thankyou richie! robbie LOL:P
  15. thats correct, with the pwr button on it will raise the rpm at which the transmission will shift to a higher gear. robbie
  16. i belive that there is about 5% increase in fuel consumption? but i may be mistaken robbie
  17. no worries mate, you can get up off your knees now, as you know im here to help anytime, well when im not at the pub! manual? thats for wiping ur hands on isnt it?? robbie [Edited on 24-2-2002 by fluff34567]
  18. well i am happy with the security, but i always use a steering lock as well. But there has been some press about a security flaw which allows access to the car very easily ( i will investigate this tomo) it all depends, if u have plenty of mods, such as some of the other members which would cost a lot to replace then i suppose it will be worth it as the insurance will never cover the whole amount. robbie
  19. hold on!! on second thoughts u are right, go through the hood with the cutter, it will also improve your cooling air flow !
  20. well u need to remove the radiator, and gearbox to access that bulb, but if u take an angle grinder and chop the front off that would be easier i think.
  21. Hi everybody, First let me apologise to you all, i have been really slack over the past few days and in the last week i have been given the honour of looking after the workshop section and have not said ' hi' to everyone yet. So if anybody has any questions or problems let me know and ill do my best to help you out. regards Robbie. [Edited on 24-2-2002 by fluff34567]
  22. have a look here for a review of the tracking devices. www.autoexpress.co.uk go to the product tests and scroll down to the end of the list and look for "Trackers" this should help in making a decision, but the review only covers the GPS/GSM types not the normal radio wave ones. robbie.
