  1. I have just posted the following in another thread "I had a nightmare journey to Dore near Sheffield on Friday. Once I approached North East Derbyshire the roads were littered with abondoned cars and worse still, pedestrians walking on the single track that was the "road." The car was like a sledge. Ended up with the ABS light on and eventually getting stuck half a mile from destination. Ordinary tyres. Would have had my teeth extracted without anesthetic to have had some footedness let alone sure footedness. However the purpose of posting is to say that on Saturday I was listening to Radio 4 and heard a feature on winter tyres and motor insurance. Logic would suggest that a safer tyre would be welcomed. Nope. One guy had his cover terminated on the spot. The article did interview a representative of the insurance industry who suggested that such action was not logical. However, all of us I'm sure, have tyres fitted and never give it a thought as to what, if any, impact this might have on our insurance. Igorance is unlikely to be bliss. If your insurer has this strange idea that winter tyres are a modification then, in the event of a claim, that policy could well be void. Pain though it is, it seems telling the insurer is the only way to be certain that all is well."

  3. Hi Phil You've posted in the Engine & Transmission sub-forum. It would be better in the general forum for the LS. Most newbies have difficulty with navigation so no worries. To show you the power here, I did a search in aforementioned LS forum and found the following which should help you identify the filter http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=20097&st=0&p=208779&hl=+pollen%20+filter&fromsearch=1entry208779
  4. Have you searched on here, on the suspension sub-forum using various relavant keywords?
  5. Hi. Could do with a bit more info. What year is your car. Has the display worked since your new alternator was fitted? Has all the display died? Any other electrics affected? Sorry, it is LS400 1999, no work was done to the display, the multi information display (LCD that shows , miles, fuel avg, etc. single line), the other electrical issues, in reverse the brake light stays on sometimes, same as the auto steering wheel does not function - have to adjust it manually, up and down- Thank you for your help Joe Hi again. You missed the question regarding whether the display had worked AFTER the alternator was changed and also these other issues; did they exist before the alternator change, immediately after, or subsequently.

  7. Hi I recently ditched Internet Exployer, there are just too many errors with the latest version. I'm now using Firefox full time and its been ok although yesterday I too had issues with this site being slow. All that said, I think the latest upgrade to the site hasn't improved the user experience.
  8. Hi Check that the moon roof opens and closes properly. Tilt it whilst travelling then close it. Then open the roof until the wind deflector pops up. Then close it (do not tilt). Has that cured it? Has it made any difference? Examine the roof channel with doors open. Is the rubber twisted or broken? Pay particular attention to the rubber where it meets the side windscreen finisher; this could show trapped twists etc from a windscreen replacement. If you find anything here you will need to remove the finisher. The screws will likely as not be well rusted. Copious amounts of WD40 otherwise they will break. Problem still not identified/cured? Turn your attention to the rubber strips all around the door and frame. Check these are clean and in good condition. Replace those that are not. Whilst you are doing this, take the time to clean all the rubbers and the channel on the sill. Also, please check that the window runner is satisfactory and that the window runs correctly such that when closed there is no lifting or twisting of the runner. If there is:- Remove the door card http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/body/fdoorpanel.html note that there is an extra screw on the MKIII. Check the full operation of the window and runners. Take the opporunity to clean out the bottom of the door and grease the window lift mechanism (big crank). While the door card is off, remove the small speaker trim and inspect the fitting of the external mirror such that no wind/noise can enter. I've run out of thoughts, but that lot should keep you busy for a while.
  9. There are 2 http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=66117&st=0&p=714941&hl=+egr%20+pipe&fromsearch=1entry714941
  10. Bump bump!! Hi Ray. I'd take that as a no, but have you searched this sub forum and the electrics sub forum.
  11. Thats why I wanted to know what your fob looked like. Its not the same as mine although you could try re-syncronising the fob with the car; stand close to the car with the doors shut and, with the fob aimed into the car, press the lock button for a good 20 seconds. Try this a couple of times. If this doesn't work, you would be best to use the search facility and try various search terms such as "fob" "remote" etc. There is a load of stuff including a very helpful table which will enable you to determine the make/model of the security system on your car when new. Please note your fob is not one that came with the Scorpion T5000 because mine is.
  12. Hi I wouldn't have thought so but suggest a pm to Benfur to confirm.
  13. I've just had a look for guidance and it was rather conspicuous by its absense. However, here is a link to a thread in which I posted the procedure for the 430. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=69541&st=0&p=735303&hl="remove%20steering%20wheel"&fromsearch=1entry735303 This may help, otherwise you could pm Benfur who I'm sure will know the procedure, failing which sign-up for Just Answer who I have found to be good in the past.
  14. That was the bit I forgot to mention; its possible that its had a change of either door or ignition barrel. Does the key operate the passenger door and boot correctly? If not then its likely to have had a change of ignition barrel and the key doesn't fit the doors/boot. Getting the fob to work will overcome this issue. Please describe the fob, if its like mine, help is at hand.
  15. Cut-up as you obviously are, I can't see that its the fault of Lexus or of this particular car; this is the motor trade and they aren't known for their kindness and generosity. There are quite a few up for grabs on fleabay. Most are classifieds:- 2000 X 88k £ 6500 2004 54 89k £ 9995 2006 06 47k £16499 These are motortrader selling prices, I would suggest the buying prices would be very much lower. The latter one will be priced to return at least £5k for the trader after allowing for discount from the windscreen price, finance costs for a period (probably 6 months in this climate), minor repairs, give-aways (mats etc), MOT etc etc. Its fairly likely he paid no more than £9k for it and possible less. I am in no doubt that exactly the same kind of picture would occur with any marque and especially in such a short period of ownership. If I gave my car away today for nothing, the rate of depreciation over the period I have owned it would equate to £9.61 per week! If I sold it for what I believe it would fetch as a minimum, that figure reduces to £7.21 per week. hardly a kings ransom for the pleasure and luxury. So, please, leave off ranting about Lexus. By all means rant about the motor trade.
  16. Congratulations on your purchase. Given that the central locking works from inside, its likely that your suspicions are correct and that the lock will need cleaning. Here's a link to remove the door panel http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/body/fdoorpanel.html If I remember correctly, there is one more screw on the MKIII than on the tutorial. Whilst the door card is off, clear out any c**p from the bottom of the door and grease the window lift mechanism. If you have a search on this forum, and you might have to try various keywords, you will find guidance on removal of the lock itself. I haven't done this part of the job but have read the postings so I know they are in here somewhere. Anothe thought of course is that the WD40 may be working its magic. My daughter's Vauxhall Ashtray boot was seized, I WD40ed it and 3 days later hey presto.
  17. Have a look here http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=69654
  18. The next DVLA auction is in Warwickshire 1 - 3 December. This link http://dvlaauction.co.uk/calendar.asp will enable you to get full details including the catalogue. Please note that you will need to register early, the first time I missed-out by not registering. When I bought mine, I went through the catalogue the week before, got a list of possibles and then determined how much I was prepared to go to for each one. Whilst its true that many of them go for a huge sum, there are loads that can be had at reserve.
  19. Got the front ones after much searching from fleabay.com, $46.99 plus $30 postage. I have not seen them on .uk. If you can't find them pm me. The side repeaters are early MR2 and regularly available in the uk. I was mega fortunate in that a fellow member on here sent mine to me foc. They are a straight swap in seconds.
  20. Looks mega. I opted for the off the car approached. Having just finished madams kitchen makeover which entailed painting all the cupoard doors in the garage and spraying part of them, I couldn't believe the overspray that generated. In a one of the pics I posted at the start of this thread there is a radio/ghetto blaster that was black but ended up fairly grey from that overspray. Couldn't risk it with the baby.
