  1. Rick, I gave Lexus the benefit of the doubt and figured they would be ahead of the rest of the world :) I wondered if he would honour the 14 day money back guarantee if it didn't work on my car. I might give him a call because as you said, it would be nice to find one that does work :) The "US cars from 96, and European and Asian cars from 2001" statement is a standard statement for OBDII compliance. My Ford Explorer (I know, you could argue that's American) was a 2000 model and was OBDII compliant. I think this may drag on for sometime. Don - as far as I am aware, the port is not fused, but you could always stick a meter on it and make sure you have 12 volts at pin 16? Thanks Mike
  2. Don, That's exactly what my non Canbus scanner does. That stinks of the protocol not being supported. I was sure that Lexus are CanBus compliant, but with every post from you, I am beginning to doubt it more and more. I may look at investing / chucking £25 away and getting one of these. As you can see, it supports CAN, VPW, PMW, ISO & KWP2000 protocols. If I do, I'll let you know if it works. Thanks Mike
  3. Hi mate and welcome to LOC. Mike
  4. Perhaps you should try and meet with someone near to you that owns a Lexus and give it a try on theirs? Mike
  5. When my '98 LS failed the MOT in October on an upper balljoint, the motor factors supplied a lower in error and the garage fitting it quoted me £90 for the balljoint. I ended up buying an upper arm from Lexus for £185. Try Cheap Toyota Parts as Steve suggested, but don't write off your Lexus main dealer without giving them a shot first. Try Andy (ACLex on here) he may be able to help you. Thanks Mike
  6. Hi all, I bought one of these. I actually bought it to read and reset the codes on my 2000 Ford Explorer, which it did a treat. I then decided to sell the Ex and keep the Lexus, and found that the scanner wouldn't work on my '98 LS. After visiting TigerFish and trying it on his GS, I figured that the reason it didn't work is because it doesn't support the CanBus protocol. I have since then looked at getting a CanBus compatible scanner, but Don's post here may cast a different light on that. Don, what does your scanner say when you try to connect? Thanks Mike
  7. Glad you're pleased with your car Mick......well, it sounds like you might be :) Mike
  8. is off to Littlehampton tomorrow in the LS for a family day, anyone fancy joining us?

  9. Andy / Rick, Is it possible to replace the balljoint on just one side, or should they be replaced as a pair? Just thought it might save me a bit of money and it was the drivers side that was an advisory in the MOT, with no mention of the nearside. Thanks Mike
  10. Alistair, Hello and welcome to LOC. Mike
  11. Hey, If you boys are getting together, give me a shout too, if I'm about, I'll pop down too. Just love driving my LS :) Mike
  12. Hi, I had a Green GS follow me in my Gold LS today. Caught me up coming down Basingstoke Road in Reading and then turned right into Long Barn Lane (as I carried on along Basingstoke Road). Was it anyone on here? Mike
  13. WOW, you are lucky to own such a low mileage one....mine has 214k on, but still drives like a dream!! Mike
  14. OK, we could pencil it in for the beginning of April then? At least that way the clocks would have gone forward and it'll seem more like summer :) Andy - you up for that? Mike
  15. Well guys, The Explorer has gone, we need to sort something out..... Would you rather give it a few weeks to give the weather chance to brighten up? Mike
  16. Andy / Rick, This hasn't gone away :) I took a deposit on the Explorer tonight, so it may be worth getting your tools clean and ready to roll. Mike
  17. Looking good..... Another worthwhile repair. The display in my MKIV doesn't light up.....the LCD display works, but just doesn't light up. I want to get that sorted too. Thanks Mike
  18. Welcome to LOC. Nice looking motor! Mike
  19. Hi, I'm glad you've got your LS and that you are happy with it. I, like you, used to think that another car was the "kids kiddy", but in my case it was the BMW 7 series, then I got a Lexus and changed my mind. Recently I have been losing my mind and looking to sell the Lexus (a whole other story), but in a recent conversation with my dad where he asked me to name the good and bad points of both cars I own, when it came to the Lexus' good points, I just said "it does everything well". My dad said, "nuff said". Sorry about the long story, but it's a point to bear in mind :) Thanks Mike
  20. Hi Andy, Welcome to LOC.....You made a good choice in choosing a Lexus :) Mike
  21. Welcome to LOC. Your car looks pretty straight and has years of life left in it yet. I have a '98 LS with 214k on the clock. Mike
