  1. fault could also be faulty knock sensors. Also what plugs are you using, the recommended ones?
  2. Lexus do not loan DVD nav discs. The disc is available from any Lexus dealer, although they will probably have to order it (may take up to a week). It does cover the countries you mention. Cannot be 100% that a Euro disc will work in a US vehicle and I doubt anybody will be able to confirm that either. You may have to go to a dealer first and try one from one of their vehicles.
  3. I've heard that carbon build up in the heads can cause this and it's not uncommon on very old LS400s.
  4. I'm not really sure why you would expect to get another 1 year extension to the warranty because the unit was repaired/replaced. If that happened nothing would ever go out of warranty as people would introduce 'faults' just before the warranty was due to expire. The 'new' head unit that was installed was probably a repair and therefore wouldn't itself carry a 1 year warranty.
  5. The ECU reset was in reference to manual vs auto mode with e-shift. As the auto box changes it's shift pattern based on the driver, resetting the ECU can make it re-learn
  6. It's a common problem with all new vehicles that use water based paints. If the reason they use water based paints is for environmental issues then it doesn't really work because the car ends up getting re-sprayed within a few years and normally with oil based paints.
  7. Don't use it then. The car can drive quite differently with power mode on or off.
  8. mpg shouldn't really change. Some people even see an increase as they don't have to use as much 'gas' to make it down change etc. It doesn't alter the throttle response, unlike snow mode which does reduce the response, but it is thought it does reduce the sensitivity of the traction contol a little.
  9. possible it is the accessory belt a little loose although that normally shows up on cold mornings not going around corners. If you think it's the power steering pump you should be able to make it do it if you perform some tight turns - maybe find an empty car park somewhere.
  10. Other than using greese you could have worn retaining pins otherwise you may need a new caliper. The other possibility is that all the shims etc. were not put back when you had your brakes replaced.
  11. That wasn't meant as a put down. On my old GS300 I didn't really have problem with wheelspin pulling away from junctions but the low down torque of the V8 really highlights tyres which have a lack of grip if you give it anything more than 1/4 throttle.
  12. I don't believe there are any convertor cables available for the IS/Altezza.
  13. The GS300 doesn't really have the power to spin the wheels that much :P
  14. Potenza what? Pontenza is a range of tyre. Some of the range are complete rubbish like to RE030 fitted as standard to the GS range. I guess you mean the top of the range S-03? They are good but having had both the S-O3 and Eagle F1 I think the Goodyears have the edge and the reviews on tirerack seem to suggest many others feel the same way.
  15. You need to use a blow torch but you should be careful not to get it too hot or to damage the wiring. Do a google search you should find some suggestions.
  16. Are you sure it is a Toyota option? I think it is an aftermarket mod. You would have to run a wire up from the side repeater into the door and then into the mirror. I don't think a dealership would do that. Warranty is only a problem if they can prove the work done has caused the fault.
  17. cambelt depends on age. 1998 models have a 9k mile service schedule and a 63k cambelt change. 1999+ have a 10k mile service schedule and 100k cambelt change. Nav is an option on both the SE and sport
  18. It isn't a common problem but the throttle body, MAF sensor, idle control valve and TPS should be checked/cleaned/adjusted every now and then to maintain optimum operation.
  19. I take it you removed and cleaned up the slider pins?
  20. A MAP sensor is not affected by dirt in the same way a 'hot-wire' MAF sensor does so no need to clean it
  21. Only the 200s, although it can never hurt to check the condition of the belt now and then on any engine.
  22. That is the throttle position sensor and something that can indeed cause poor idling.
  23. There won't be an "S" because Lexus stopped using that 4 years ago. There will be the IS250, IS250 SE and IS250 SE-L
