  1. Ollie, I've pm'd you. Should be the same size caliper as the 93 had larger discs than the earlier years. But give the part number in your enquiry. Stuart
  2. If its the same as a 1993 then I can pm you a phone number to call for a car being broken in Ipswich. Let me know.
  3. Had a rear spring go on a W140 Merc but it was just a small piece off the bottom, less than a ring. Not noticeable accept by MOT inspection. My mechanic wouldn't touch it. It must have been about 50% thicker than the two replacement KYB springs I've got in the garage for the Lexus. Surprising this but in so many ways the LS and the W140 were very different beasts. Those rear Merc springs have a bend in them when fitted - you have to have exactly the right compression instrument for such purpose or risk death. Ratcheting it up would likely give me heart failure!
  4. Watching this vid on a different model Lexus it was a fair bit of work. Another vid showed the need for a pickle fork, whih I was looking at one a few weeks back at a Yard sale and had no idea what it was used for. Necessary tool to remove the ball joint. It may be much easier on the LS. but its gien me the excuse to leave it to another. I know "scaredecat" or perehaps just wise in old age!
  5. £93.60 not at all unreasonable. Having been shafted for over £600 for the parts for a Cam belt and water pump change with all other parts I'm loathe to to go lexus for a quote on parts. Wondering about Johns theory. above. Must be a reason. How difficult is it to change a lower ball joint? not that I really want to do it and spend time bending over a wheel arch. The "back" will object most vociferously! .
  6. I don't know what an original part from toyta would cost Phil but I imagine very expensive. I bought Sankei 555 which in this advert for an older Lexus looks better than the Beck Arnley. Price via Oz Aus$122 each. Not cheap B&A are the onyl ones on Rock auto for the 92. http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/1992/lexus/ls400/suspension/ball_joint.html
  7. Of course if I'd still been a Mercedes driver I'd still be able to get home if the Ball goes
  8. it's panic Monday! Not a good day as regards anxiety for my next long trip in a few weeks time. I bought a pair of Lower Ball Joints on ebay Australia back in 2015. Think they cost £65 each. Were a Japanese brand. I had the RH side fitted a year or so ago. I have noticed clunks when I go over narrow speed humps at low speed. Not determined from which side. Spoke to my mechanic who thinks the one that wasn't changed if not an advisory on last MOT should be OK for a bit longer. Asked him to book it in if a space becomes available. Will be interesting to see a photo of your part to understand how it could shear and yet not even have been an advisory? Inspector not doing his job? Also just read about the Front springs both broken on Steves project. Don't know how old Springs are on my car but have been taking a spare pair of rear springs with me when I go abroad. Not given much thought to front springs breaking. Rears have been an advisory for rust. Perhaps Steve will let people know if the springs are replacements or orgiinals? Is it possible to tell? Glad Rudy you didn't have a catastrophe situation.
  9. Glad you did! I asked for Murphy's/Guiness at the Sun Inn, Dedham, on Sunday last, and was treated to a pint of Adnams Blackshore Stout. Pleasant enough but perhaps not quite the flavour of the Liffey water!
  10. Personally I'm a Murphys Man, but since Iceland stopped selling it I've had to go back to Guiness!
  11. I posted a thread last week? pointing out that the site has an insecure log in - (as advised by Firefox) needs sorting to an https:/
  12. If its sticky like sellotape or something like that, white spirit on a rag is the best to get it off.
  13. Yes - you never can tell. My own purchase looked spankingly brilliant but I've spent best part of £2,000 on it to get it to the state I want it. Would be more but my mehanic still hasn't billed me for work in 2014. Gave him £500 on account last year as felt so guilty, and chatting with him on Mothers day when buying a card he didn't mention another bill is on its way, but could be another £500 I owe him. I'm forgetting what he did it was so long ago. Brake pipes certainly..
  14. i think I'd have passed on buying that car with a bird turd to hold the windscreen in. Brave man
  15. How do you get matching dents in both rear side panels. Did it just escape the local salvage yard grabber? Is the side exhaust both sides? Different, I'll say that!
  16. If on a budget I would avoid older LS cars. Spent three times what I paid for the car. Its a lovely car and worth every penny but it can be costly parts and cambelt etc.
  17. I had my filter changed and four litres of this product added must be three thousand miles ago and notice no difference to the gearbox. Mannol 3309 as spec on this item. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-4x1-Liter-MANNOL-ATF-Multivehicle-Ol-Automatik-Getriebeol-/271969995417?hash=item3f52acca99:g:PGEAAOSwol5Ywoma
  18. I clear my viewing nearly every day via "options" but I will try it again. Always shows a log on page with a bar through the Padlock and comes up with a warning. OK I'm still on XP but this shouldn't matter.
  19. I'm getting a warning that it is unsafe to log on to the site. Perhaps the log on page should /could be changed to be a https//: secure page? This is via Mozilla Firefox. Just a thought. Stuart
  20. I've only noticed below cold level when there was a leak from the expansion tank. Common on LS400 as the level indicator part was usually tightened into the top with too much force causing a crack Surely a Dashboard indicator light will come on for such a low level?
  21. I will give a few further thoughts and have questions. Perhaps your year car is an electronic "drive by wire" throttle position sensor and not adjustable? In which case could be a faulty sensor. I put here the link to the manual checking method, Apols I re-read and see you've changed your Air filter. £1 a mile is this based on evidence or just a guess? The throttle body should be cleaned. Perhaps no hot air going into the engine via the EGR pipe may slow down the changeover to LPG as the car may not reach temperature quite as quickly? (I may be wrong here) Which side of the exhaust box was the 02 sensor? When you say it blew out, sounds like part of your exhaust broke away? They are screwed in, Although, after a Garage service I had a Spark plug blow out of a Mercedes 230TE. The guys had obviously not screwed it in. What a Bang as it hit the bonnet. Frightened the life out of me. Left its mark. Not sure where the Lexus Sages have gone but perhaps someone more knowledgeable will follow this thread and correct me where I'm talking rubbish. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_skVHdgtMTU
  22. I don't have any expertise on your Questions but a few thoughts Firstly, sure it isn't running on 7 cyls? not as noticeable as some might think. Secondly, have you ever cleaned the throttle body? Thirdly when was the last time you changed the Air filter? Forthly, was this replacement Lambda sensor a Lexus part or a £20 quid job? Cheapies may be OK of course. Finally check the Throttle sensor for positioning- beware if removing the throttle body not to disturb. There is a very good vutube video on checking this but sorry I don't have a link on this Computer. If its been disturbed it may need checking.
