  1. Anyone tell me what is behind the part marked in the photo? Had my tow Bar electrics fitted yesterday and noticed that the guy had unscrewed the two nuts perhaps to see if he could thread the hot wire through the bulkhead this route. Told me he actually threaded it down the side of the passenger door behind the hinges and into the car. When I went out last night I noticed a sort of whistling noise (at only 5mph) but it only lasted a few minutes and disappeared once I'd been round the block to stop at the house to inspect.. This morning I checked the nuts and could see that the rubber Gasket was folded instead of the bolt running through one side. Corrected today but still curious if it caused the noise. Could be something totally unrelated? Hate not knowing why something happens. ps My Engine bay looks much cleaner than in the photo which was taken when I bought the Car.
  2. Hello Laurent Good to have a French member. Many of us drive to France and I drove down to the South via the Milau Viaduct in my 23 year old LS400 to Frejus this Summer just gone, and I didn't see a single Lexus. (Excluding four tracks) Wonderful Bridge and love the Video showing its construction! We oldies have by experience become discerning, and we enjoy the exclusivity which even the older generation Cars provide. The later models are for the upwardly mobile, and performance loving enthusiasts. Your Car looks very nice and your English is no doubt superior to our command of French. (Certainly my own) No offence taken by the reference to age. Age is but a number - its a persons zest for life that defines them.
  3. Could this be the common problem Colin? Not sure if you are getting no movement fwd/back http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-1st-and-2nd-gen-1990-2000/442318-how-to-fix-the-problem-with-non-working-reclining-on-drivers-seat-pictures-inside.html see thread Driver seat 1992 Lexus for comments Fixed mine whilst Car seat was still in situ.
  4. ps This is one of the funniest threads on LPG (if you've got a couple of weeks to read?) which could be alarming if such idiots exist. http://www.lpgforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=8148
  5. Panic over - found it on another thread - did away with the Tabs so just brute force and a Pry Bar needed. Hmm see the Car must have had a broken window/rear scree at some time. Only a 10p coin and a Biro otherwise.
  6. Got a guy coming to put my tow Bar electrics in tomorrow, so thought I'd remove rear seat to make it simpler. I can't find or see any Tabs as per the "how to" post. Has anyone taken out their rear seat. I assume that the tabs are in the centre each side but a mirror and torch shows nothing and not wasy to even pry any space with my fingers. Help! Mercedes had the ring pulls just visible each corner. So simple.
  7. Experience has shown me, that the last thing you want to do is shout about the name of a good mechanic, that is unless you are happy to always be in a Queue to get any work done. Mine is a great guy who sadly has type 1 diabetes and hasn't billed me for work done since April 2015 but you won't find me giving out any name. I paid him £500 on account recently despite him not asking, and a few days ago he changed the flexi pipes from Auto Box to Rad. So, reminded him yet again to bill me as I've forgotten just how much work he has done to the Car and I must owe him another £500 at least. Been an expensive beast this, but now the Exhaust has been fixed with S/.S from Cats to Box I am at last enjoying the pleasure of a quieter and better performing Car. Perhaps the Mercedes Barges are finally being banished from my memory.
  8. Its a good forum I've watched over many years. What would be the point of a fast fill four hole Toroidal if you are feeding it in through a Straw? Good point.
  9. I would not have one of those small entry points where an adapter has to be fitted. I know of a situation where the gas into a Car failed to be stopped by the valve. The Pump gun could not be taken off. The major Service station had to call the Fire Brigade who didn't have a clue what to do, and the Garage management shut down the garage for possibly two hours.because of the problem. Who knows if that warning on the pump could render someone liable to a claim in damages in the event such a situation arose. I believe a piece of debris got into the pipe and blocked the valve from closing down. Very rare event I imagine but I would prefer the larger entry point so that the European Adapter does not have to fit into another Adapter. I'd happily place the entry point on the bumper rather than the rear wing itself as it will eventually get rust around it and look nasty. The "Fast filler" Toroidal Tank has a separate tube to vent in the boot that vents downward whilst other Toroidals have a vent tube out, in the centre of the Toroidal Tank which has a sealing plate above the mutivalve and vent pipe. Must get a quote to have a conversion. Got new Toroidal fast fill tank, Vaporiser and solenoid valve, Entry point, etc,etc sitting around now for nearly two years. Just need the Electrics and someone to install, as decided I can't be bothered to do the job. My only worry with pro is that I read on their website they don't take off the Inlet manifold to drill. Various opinions on this. ps looks a nice neat job.
  10. I bought a spare which had been completely serviced with all replacement Alan s/s bolts for the hex bolts. You should know that they do differ slightly between earlier models and later models. This I believe is for a later model and is not suited to my car.
  11. view revisions. That engine bay looks somewhat dirty for a 16k mileage car. Never new Harrods was located in a dust bowl. If the seller has known it all its life and it was a UK purchased Car when new, would it have air suspension. Did people import Japanese Cars individually in 1993? I know it became popular later on, but why import a Japanese spec car which if brand new at the time I imagine would cost far more than UK spec. Can't see dealerships saying we've got this new UK stock but why not have a Japanese spec? Could the car have seen the middle east in its early years, I wonder?
  12. Sorry I've no ideas to help. Front offside is less likely to hit extreme potholes so difficult to tell if its just the nearside corner. Over speed humps should be a consistent problem L and R if hit at speed which may emulate a bad pot hole, I'd have thought?
  13. So a throttle body clean could be in order if its not been cleaned in recent times.? I'd also use some Wynns Petrol Injector cleaner if you have a long journey in mind. Not saying it will solve problem but less work / expense than changing plug leads and plugs. Throttle bodies do get carbon build up and injector cleaner will improve performance.
  14. I have no problem with Euro Car parts but they don't sell much for Jap cars. Interesting to note that my old Battery could (?) have been standing on the shelf for three years before being installed and has lasted another seven years. So, I'm hopeful. Bought a Bosch from Euro for my W140 when I had it and it seemed to be a very good battery. Was still going strong after four years when I sold the Car.
  15. Just a thought and I'm no expert but wondering if the springs have been replaced if the bushes on the Control Arms and Struts needed some sort of silicone on them if they were cleaned up before being put back. No doubt others will correct me on this.
  16. Too late for that Michael, and a bit peeved as the replacement received turns out to be a Yuasa 3335 and not a Yuasa 5335 which I was asked if I'd like. OK, I got what I ordered but not happy to see that the Battery data shows Fitting date 12 months / years 2014- 015-2016-2017 Wet filled with Acid UN2794 (which I am unsure what this means). So this seems like an "old stock" battery made in 2014. This said, my original 3335 taken from the Car also says UN2794 and has a Recharge chart with 12 Months and the years 2006-2007-2008-2009-2010. The Month 12 and the Year 2009 are marked with a cross, so it looks like it has lasted 7 years. ps The Duracell brand is used by an American Company on licence I read somewhere. The US Company has long produced Car batteries.
  17. Thinking back I had a broken spring on my W140 once. I think it was the rear? Just broke at the base. Could be the cause of your "creaking". I have two replacements rear springs which I've done nothing with but carry one on long journeys "just in case" as they are an "advisory" for rust.
  18. As my Aunt used to say "clear as mud" . Also checking DVLA I can't find the road fund license rates for Motorcycles but I'm sure it is according to CC's rather than emissions or nuclear Kw's. My 1971 Yamaha 200 Twin is exempt, but nevertheless in the unlikely (very unlikely) event I were to buy another Honda 750FJ I am curious to know what the current is. Not sure if Bikes get a Tax disc still. Pretty sure the DVLA site says they do, and yet other online threads say they don't. Maybe I'm suffering from dyslexia. (add to the list)
  19. What pressure are you putting in your tyres? I sometimes get creaking going over speed humps slowly, and then they seem to disappear for some reason. I'd say they are front creaks rather than back.
  20. It could only happen to me. Took out the old battery on Tuesday, a Yuasa 335. Not checked when put in (if there is any info) as the replacement arrived and keen to get the thing put in - with the Wifes help as these are not a good idea for people with dodgy backs to lift in and out. I'd had a phone call the day before the delivery of the ordered Yuasa 335 and the seller (via ebay) said would I be happy to accept a Yuasa 5335 which she would check to see that it was the same size but gives an extra two years guarantee to five years. Why not? Pricewise, I noted you can pay up to £145 for this "Silver" model elsewhere. £83 paid. So, unwrapped looked OK with the word 5000 in bold print on the front and duly installed. - Hang on!! Bloody terminals wrong way round. But no, they'd sent me a 5334 and not a 5335. Bu**er me , if we didn't have to take it out and put back the old battery as they can't send me a replacement until tomorrow. Will update how long original lasted when finally replaced!
  21. OK so i've joined the plastic Licence holders after the fiasco of this thread was eventually sorted. But.what the blood and thunder is this all about when I check to see that my Licence covers a motorcycle??? Description You can drive a motorcycle of a power exceeding 35kW or with a power to weight ratio exceeding 0.2kW per kg, or A motorcycle of a power not exceeding 35kW with a power to weight ratio not exceeding 0.2kW per kg and derived from a vehicle of more than double its power. A motor tricycle with a power exceeding 15kW No further explanation seen on DVLA site. Whatever happened to Cubic capacities??
  22. You could always have the lower half "wrapped" if its two tone or the whole car. What did some Footie guy have his Bentley wrapped in - Camouflage if I remember correctly. looked terrible imo
  23. If its a conventional Snail shaped horn a bit of plastic insert and then a squirt of gorilla filler should deaden the sound, until explored how to solve problem. Can then scrape out. Without responsibility or liability as they say! Gorilla filler had another use for my older Mercedes to firm up the wallowy spring style front seats.
