  1. People who advise "the law is on your side" maybe haven't used the law in consumer matters. back street garages would probably ignore a county court judgment and that would mean more expense. the throwaway remark "the law is on your side" is used far too much on the car forums. my first course of action would be to discuss this with the garage, find out what they did, consider giving them a chance to put it right, supervise them if you have to, or get someone qualified to supervise. that way it shouldn't cost you anything.
  2. You don't start stripping a car engine hoping to come across a starter motor though, do you? You must have an idea by looking at the car. I use a backstreet independent if I need work done on our cars that's beyond my capabilities, when I've been at the garage, even they consult the Internet for info on cars they're not familiar with. Why is it that lessons learnt always cost lots of money? Good luck, that a lot of engine codes.
  3. Utter poo. Chris Evans and Eddie Jordan, who thought that would work? I could go on, but whats the point? Refund please
  4. @Mbay......I believe you have got all the information regarding this issue, its time to work your way through the list of problems and get your hands dirty. No matter haw many questions you ask on the forum the car will not repair itself....crack on man.
  5. I'm going to have a look at mine, when I can be bothered, I did them six months ago but like to keep a check on them. The first time I did them they took some moving with WD40 and a rubber hammer.
  6. It was stuck to the sensor, it's not that sticky that you can't handle it, wear clean rubber gloves and treat it with care. The ones you buy on eBay have to be handled at some point to be installed.
  7. I have cleaned my gel when I installed my dash cam and disturbed the sensor, rinsed it under cold water. But you can buy new on eBay, don't know how good they are. Its not something that breaks, its gel, just clean the windscreen and the gel, it helps being a bit surgical with the cleanup.
  8. My reply is a straight lift from the UK recall website, I don't think they're as dramatic in reporting of issues, but reading between the lines I can see they meant...... "The airbag may deploy without warning and lacerate human flesh within an area of 2 miles. This may result in a devastating crash with cars flipping into the air, fuel tanks exploding and whole cities being razed to the ground"
  9. Without going out to look at my radio....... Isn't there a button near the radio that auto tunes the radio as you travel? Radio 2 has different frequencies as you travel up and down the M1 and all my radios have auto tuned.
  10. The adverts last 30 seconds. if you live in Canada and don't know or obey the bear rules it TSB.
  11. I've never seen "O" rings on pins on any of the cars I've worked on. Is it particular to the LS 400?
  12. I looked at the Toyota recall website today and found a recall flag regarding my car. I called my local Lexus dealership and the lad I spoke to could not find the recall, he looked on another system and found that it was a passenger airbag issue but Toyota have not made the dealership aware when this will be done. Not very inspiring is it?
  13. There is something that detects the kerb, its already fitted to your car, most cars actually.......YOU.
  14. Is there a Bluewater meet?
  15. Due to this being a common issue has anybody thought of taking off, or has taken off, the calliper carrier and having it bored out a little so there is more play and therefore hold a decent amount of grease?
  16. I prefer silicone grease, but have used copper grease. Some will say buy super duper Lexus/Toyota grease because "I want to keep it original" Whatever you use its a good idea to check, clean and grease regularly.
  17. On the part that seized, the sliding pin. I would respectfully suggest you give the job to someone who knows what they're doing, you shouldn't be messing with brakes if you don't know what you're doing.
  18. If they are the same as the IS250 sounds like you have a seized sliding pin. Plenty of WD40, or equivalent, and a large rubber hammer. Have a look in the "Brake and Suspension" section of the GS forum, lots of advice.
  19. I believe they need sealing after the abrasive has restored the lens.
