My Traction trip was meant to be about 7 weeks, but a broken driveshaft allowed me to extend it by nearly 3 weeks! (Insurance paid!) The trip through Extramadura to Frigiliana, then back up centre to Picos.....9 weeks! Addiction warning. Don't read 'Andalucia' by Nicholas Luard, or you be off (order it from your local library, NOT t'bay! Keep libraries open!) I did get to hire a Citroen Mehari and whizz about in Cork forests/medina Sedonia for 2 days once. If only Meharis didn't fetch ludicrous prces nowadays....£18K!! As to 'best car'? Once in Citroen CX Auto (Air-con failed!). Twice in '90 Jeep Cherokee which was great.

I should have started a separate string! (Oh, I have!) To save more hi-jacking. I've 'done Spain' several times; N to South, ; Centre-down; East; West. Been SO many places and lived near Ronda for 6 months, so know that Gaucin road! First trip was in '84, in a Citroen Avant Commerciale. People would stand up outside cafes and applaud us as we drove by!. Done about 6 more long trips (I decided I wasn't going to wait until I retired, so kept business small and took 6/8 weeks off) Haven't been for about 10/12 years now, but was looking at a booklet on Merida (amazing Roman remains there; it was THE major city there in Roman times) it reminded me-got the juices flowing again. Just don't try the Ajo Blanco soup ( I love it though!) Phil! You need to 'test' your new car there! Pic 1. View from Dali's house in Cadaques. Pic 2. View from near Nicolas Luard's house near Tarifa (Try 'Andalucia' by him)

Bit late in day, but this car is tempting. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-rx300-lpg/183400391262?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 I keep thinking about lpg cars. But -heresy! - reading on other makes always leads me back to Lexus. (Stories galore of poor quality elsewhere, etc..) Anyone recognise the car? Too far to pop over ( I'm in Bristol)

What was the worst and best car you ever owned?
Chris Skelton replied to dutchie01's topic in Lexus Owners Club Lounge
PS. I have a fond memory of spending 9 weeks touring Northern Iberia in my cream 1955 Citroen Traction Avant 'Commerciale'. Wild camping 'in spades'; people sitting outside bars in villages standing and cheering as we drove in, etc.! Even broke a driveshaft in Segovia, but they found a replacement in 10 days. Didn't mind hanging about...... -

I had the bumpers, spoiler and rear 'grille' painted to match the car. Wish I'd kept it now. Bought by a guy who -medically - needed an auto car. Exported it to Aussie, where this picture is. -

Most fun? Nissan S-Cargo. Best-well LS400 Ser 4? Though you'd think me mad if I didn't mention several Citroen DS23s, or my unique CX 25 Turbo auto (they never made an auto turbo!) My Dyanes were fun too. Just been in an electric Zoe. Impressive-but....fun? No. A Mehari is FUN! ds garden.bmp -
MY last two cars were so perfect that I was paranoid about parking them anywhere, etc.! In contrast, we inherited an 18K mile Micra from our 85+ yr old neighbour who had dented/scraped most of the car in his short ownership, so that it was uneconomic to fix, (but pefectly OK to drive.) 12 years later, now on 50K miles, it has been reliable and ....who cares about dents? So I'm not looking for pristine cars now, except mechanically! Such a relief. (The XM 3 litre I had is now in a special collection!)
-
So....you guys are paranoid about getting car jacked? Auto locking-I pondered what it was for a moment! I'm not sure I'd be bothered with auto stuff (more to go wrong?) as I can do stuff. And pressure sensors seem an expensive gadget? Still; it's an expensive luxury so you probably 'need' all this stuff.

RX Ride Comfort
Chris Skelton replied to C Mclean's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
Citroen C6 best suspension (though Citroen's new C3(?) suspension supposed to be good) I recall the RX300 being good.Depends how old a car you want (there's a nice Cit GSA Estate.....on Classic Cars...)as modern cars nearly all firm? -
Apologies if this has been mentioned. https://www.pistonheads.com/regulars/ph-spottedykywt/lexus-is200-v8-spotted/38253 Be better if it was a Lexus LS engine?

I came close to buying this £1600 IS300. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-IS300-in-silver/263701504401?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3Dc141af22d86c4a1c9ded4226acdafc89%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D332457261141%26itm%3D263701504401&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A778b23b8-6eea-11e8-ba45-74dbd18027b7|parentrq%3Af86eb1b81630a884b56def73fffa4181|iid%3A1 It's in the middle of Northumberland, which seems the only drawback, but it comes from a one owner elderly guy who only did a few miles a year (check MOT history) and apart from usual wheel decay, plus a little surface sill, seems in great shape. Apologies if this should be in 'sale' section. I had to pull out of this sale for life reasons, not condition reasons!
-
....I hope so (Worth fixing) as I'm -hopefully! - about to buy an IS with signs of this...MOT until next Feb, so plan to fix over winter, when I usually 'mothball' the car. 80K miles so worth putting a few 000s into it.

Would have to pretty old one.....my USA version (1990) had them, but the UK ones are 'plastic' bumpers. (Unless you mean those 'bull-bars'?!!) My old Citroen Traction had sprung steel bumpers that-as the name implies, -were flexible and bounced cars off! I've parked in the middle of a field before ('miles' from other cars ) and STILL came back to find a cluster of cars next to me! Luckily, our Micra is so dented and scrathed (previous 90 yr old owner!) that we don't worry-thus NEVER get hit, of course! In my perfect XM last year-and same El Grand van, BOTH were like magnets to close parkers!

Anything other than your opinion is ' is totalitarian mind state'? Luckily I don't live near London so don't think that London life reflects how the rest of the world is. Logic possibly shows that each of us having our own cars might be regarded as ....crazy, in absolute terms? It's not efficient (jams/cost/parking/ misuse of material.....)and non too ecological.. And many places DO run on communal.....washing machines, for example. -in the USA even! A lot of the world outside of the M25 runs on slightly less consumptive concepts? But we have really hi-jacked this string far too much already? (Fresh from borrowing my neighbours.......because I'm lucky to live in a friendly cul-de-sac!)
-
How weird. Pay taxes but 'won't use anything public'? How? streets, lighting, Schools....etc., all are 'public', as in we 'own' them/pay for them Methinks (like the amurricuns) have got 'communism' in your head as all evil. The fact that russia decayed into lunacy was just human failings -ain't nowt wrong with caring for your fellow man, which is the basis of communism as a philosophy. Freedom of choice? Another delusion. But this is about Teslas..... The whole idea of each of us having individual vehicles, that spend a huge % of the time sitting parked up, is of course, crazy in itself, never mind WHAT propells them (when they ARE propelled!)
