  1. You sure it’s not the well known tapping that comes from the hydraulic valve lifters for a few seconds after the car had not been used for a while and the oil drains down out of the upper head area, it goes as soon as oil pressure is achieved. I have had it happen a few times and to be fair it does sound dreadful, if it was to happen every start then I would be worried, but only happens ( sometimes) when engine has not been used for a while ie weeks! UPDATE: I have just watched the vid on the duplicate post about this!! And It is Not the Hydraulic Lifter problem!
  2. Quite a possibility ( counterfeit parts) as they are in a high price point and mean large returns for the fakers! I haven’t looked at the Osram Website yet but Manufacturers that do get their products copied by counterfeiters some times have a guide on how to recognise their genuine products.
  3. +1 on above for the remedy of your ‘problem’. It appears that the mechanics that worked on your car may have ( like is highly Recommend) disconnected one (or both) of the battery terminals and this has led to your window system needing to be reset, here is the page from my IS250 manual for the procedure after a battery disconnect and I will be surprised if it is different for your RX ( same year also )
  4. Pretty sure those wheels are known as ‘ G Spider’ wheels.
  5. Has it got an OAP ( Overrunning Alternator Pulley) as this might have something to do with what you are trying to describe.
  6. Might be that the metal bar that acts as the hinge is jamming lock mech. This guy had a redneck fix.
  7. I suggest Bosch S4 026, which can be got for about £75 right now!
  8. +1 on not betting your life on the VL2 working exactly as it should 100% of the time!
  9. Ok....so make sure screen is absolutely clean using a damp soft cloth and don’t press too hard onto it. The thing that makes me think it is an ‘Electrical’ problem is if you watch the above video check the fluttering on & off of the leds for the heated mirrors etc! What’s that all about if it was just a sticky display switch?
  10. Is your battery in good health? This car can throw all sorts of seemingly un-connected problems ( electrically) if the battery is not in tip top condition.
  11. Don’t let the caliper problem put you off what is a superb car otherwise, regular, very low cost, maintenance of said callipers and you should not ever have trouble. Alloy corrosion can also be easily sorted ( To be honest I have not addressed mine yet!, if I start getting slow punctures then perhaps) Spark plugs are due at the 6 Year/60k point and can be expensive at the dealers if you can’t spanner yourself, to be honest FSH is not so important to me now as actually getting the service points done having said that OEM plugs can quite easily last upto 100k. Once all points are addressed then the 250 will serve you well and You should have a low cost ( besides reg service items) set of wheels
  12. Maybe you car has had a windscreen replacement in the past and for some reason it is not a heated one or incorrectly fitted. The OEM glass is actually marked LEXUS (bottom right) Note: As mentioned above only the Wiper park area is heated and not the whole screen like on Fords! FYI Interestingly enough, Ford Motor Company was the first company to release this technology and subsequently, they created a patent on it named 'Quickclear'. This meant that other companies couldn't use the heated windscreen technology. More recently Ford has been leasing out the technology to other car companies and it can be seen on Volkswagen, Vauxhall and Range/Land Rovers. Some car manufacturers have created their own version of the heated windscreen technology using a different methodology
  13. Hi, I have a pdf of the Lexus Technical Service Bulletin concerning this problem but cannot link it here as I am having problems posting since the recent update of this website, Do a google search for L-SB-0016-10 And you should get back the pdf 👍 LSB001610.pdf hey....got there in the end👍 And here is the offending grommet!
  14. Strange Question, the wires go into the plug which then In turn plugs into the maf sensor body! Am I right in thinking that ( somehow!) you have now got the plug with (at least 2 ) wires not connected into it! I do not have access to the wiring diagrams but someone will pipe up with it some time soon. If you cannot ‘re-pin’ the plug you may have to get a used one and splice it into you loom further back. Well, 15 minutes of google surfing gets me this! Any good for you? It shows the colours of pins 1-5 on the MAF sensor. So if these colours correspond to yours then home and dry!
  15. I am not a DERV owner or profess to be knowledgeable on them But isn’t there a ‘5th’ injector on the 220 somewhere down the back that can fail and produce copious amounts of exhaust smoke? Therefore if it is a injector then I guess it can leak externally also! Like I said I am not an expert on Diesels but standby for more learned responses. paul m.
  16. There you go Rob (OP) straight from the ‘Horses Mouth’ , why you should consider the IS220 very very carefully!
  17. So could still happen if you didn’t disconnect battery but if battery goes below about 10v it make cause all sorts of other ‘problems’ that will be rectified with a healthy battery,
  18. The car will be in a ‘re-learning’ phase after the battery dis-connect so if the indicated mpg was mostly done by another driver ( previous owner )for instance then the driving ‘style’ will be different, it may take a while to settle down to your style.
  19. If after a battery disconnect the window switches little green led is flashing then Electric windows will need re-learning as they will only work from their respective buttons and not from drivers door panel. you need to open each window about half way down with its own button and then close it but keep button pressed for about 2-3 seconds after it has closed ( you may hear a click) Do this with each window in turn and then you will have control back at drivers door panel, If you have a Moonroof as Lexus cell it then that will need re-learning as it is completely separate to window system even though it works via Global Closure using the key fob. Note. There are No codes required for factory fitted audio equipment
