  1. Different car you are talking about. I was talking about my NX and you're talking about your RC. Both artificial mind. One had the eCVT in S mode too.
  2. I'd rather ditch my charging tray and get easier access to the storage underneath to be honest. Phones don't need to be charged every journey, they just need to be charged when the charge level drops low. Most of the time I charge my phone at home and it's fine all the time I'm in the car and the only time I need to charge it in the car via a USB lead and plug into the 12V charging socket is when I've forgotten to charge it at home or wherever I am. I tend to think the charging tray is an answer to a problem that doesn't exist and one which creates a bigger problem than it seeks to address.
  3. Worst - 1997 Peugeot 406 2 litre petrol company car. Inherited it from someone else when my car went back. Hated it with a vengeance. Awful thing. Poor performance, poor economy and handled like a boat. Best - 2011 Jaguar XF 5.0 V8. To this day I wish I still had it. I'd have saved heaps and heaps of cash on depreciation of all the other cars I've bought since then, much much more than I'd have paid in extra fuel charges if I'd kept it. Capable of 31-32mpg driven gently and driven gently in a 385BHP V8 was no chore. Driven less gently it brought a smile to my face every single time.
  4. Yes, I always seem to have 5-6 litres left when mine counts down to zero. So much so that I'm happy to do another 30 miles beyond zero if I need to. Had quite a few tankfuls in the mid 30's recently. More motorway miles, colder, more electrical draw and less commute trawl. Not that great to be honest.
  5. You don't need to bother about the protections which cover the engine. The oil filler is in the boot and the oil filter is in the glovebox. WD40 should do the trick. Mind you, my reply might be complete b******s, just like your original post.
  6. Can't promise that! I think you'll notice a difference. It'll be when you're loaded up and have to accelerate within the 40-80 range that you'll really notice the difference. That said, I hope you enjoy the car. Sounds like a great spec and colour combination
  7. A gimmick on a hybrid Lexus and a waste of time in my opinion. Worthwhile in a car with a normal auto gearbox but useless with a hybrid because when you manually stick it in a 'gear' using the selector or the paddles it still behaves like a hybrid, ie mash the accelerator and the revs still jump up and stay up whilst the drivetrain continually varies the gearing. The only slight upside is it makes the car slightly more responsive when you first plant your foot so I do use it occasionally.
  8. I thought everything on the internet was private....
  9. Have watched episode 1 of the second series. Enjoyed it. Will catch up with the others as soon as I can
  10. Guess we just drive on different roads at different times and with different styles. ECO mode feels to me like the powertrain is winding up an elastic band which has to get to a certain tightness before finally propelling the car forwards. Each to their own, no right or wrong.
  11. While I think about it the DAB radio is not that intuitive so possibly worth setting up some stations in memory as part of the handover. Go through how to find different stations - you have to select a different ensemble. If you don't know this it can appear that the car won't find any DAB stations if set to an ensemble where there are no stations within reach. An ensemble is BBC National, BBC Local, Local, etc. I haven't yet taken delivery of any car that had exactly the right tyre pressures set so I normally check these myself at home under the right conditions. Then reset the TPMS to register the new pressures.
  12. Sounds like you've done your homework well Jon. Hope you enjoy your new car! Please also tell us all about it once you've got it and done a few miles.
  13. I didn't much like the performance of my IS300h either. For me, the circa 155BHP 2.5 litre petrol engine and hybrid powertrain doesn't give enough performance. I'm not talking about 0-60 times, I'm talking in gear acceleration say between 40 and 80 because this is where this car is particularly poor. On an A road an overtake requires too much time on the other side of the road and pulling out of the inside or middle lane of a motorway when baulked by slower traffic and having to accelerate into the faster lanes requires far too much mashing of accelerator and noise to go with it. I'm also always hesitant about how much torque I'll actually get too because I've been caught out a few times when the battery charge is low and any acceleration only provided by the petrol engine. I love my car when pootling around in town and on 40-50MPH country roads. I positively hate it on long fairly congested motorway journeys and on faster flowing A roads. All depends upon expectations and what you've been used to in the past I guess. I really miss all three of my Jaguar XFs which all had completely effortless performance. I believe I will get rid of mine and I'll be looking at an NX200t, a petrol-engined E-Pace, GS450h, RX450h and possibly another Jaguar XF and would expect to make a decision in about 2 months time. Unfortunately I didn't get keys for any of these under the tree at Christmas! I'm also going to look at an ISF and a Jaguar XFR because probably this is my last opportunity to tick the V8 box again. Heart says yes, head says no. What I do know is I will have something that provides better performance in terms of response and 'in gear' acceleration.
  14. I've always been more concerned with bodywork, wheels and tyres. Being a new car, all should be ok but I check them nonetheless. I stand at the front on each side and look up the side of the car looking for dents/dings/blemishes. I do the same from the rear looking back along the side towards the front. Two keys. Full documentation set - should be in a black pack. Ask the sales person to talk you through what docs you should get. You should have a warranty booklet, a service book, a (car) user guide, a satnav user guide and maybe 1 or 2 others. Handover should be good, never had a bad one from a Lexus dealership. Check the invoice matches the details you signed for when you agreed to buy the car, ie the new car order form you signed. Just make sure the numbers are the same. Make sure you take the things along that they ask you to bring on day of collection, especially if part-exing something. Make sure you are getting a new model year NX, there may well be some old model NX's still out there. I'm afraid I can't tell you how to spot the two models but there is a thread on here about the new model year differences. It would be a shame to pay all that money and get an old model year new one and not a model year 2018 model. Unless you've done a good deal on one of the last models of course. The differences are slight and both would still be new cars but I think I'd prefer the slightly updated model if I was collecting in January 2018. Personally, I wouldn't bother checking that everything worked, I'd trust Lexus manufacturing and the dealership checking everything. Get your phone connected before driving off - normally they'll take you through this. Also set your home destination in the satnav if fitted, again they'll normally do this. Finally, look out for any kamikaze pilots on the way home to make sure no one prangs it when it is still shiny and very new!!!
  15. Surprised you can drive in ECO mode for that kind of distance, I always find the throttle response to be unacceptably poor. Requires a hefty shove on the throttle to elicit anything like normal progress and I'm not convinced they give better economy in ECO mode in normal driving conditions either. I haven't done any journey of any length in ECO mode mind so I probably wouldn't know!
  16. I went twice. Last time I'll see them I would think and even though Adam Lambert isn't Freddie Mercury, he's still pretty good imo. Did anyone else get along to one of the shows?
  17. Watched all of series 1 twice over. Haven't watched any of series 2 yet. I finished work today for the Christmas break so I'm looking forward to catching up on series 2. Just been busy at work and too many other things to watch and do. Happily, all the Christmas shopping is also done
  18. We tend to take my wife's Mini whenever we go shopping to avoid this sort of thing. Of course we then have to make sure we don't buy any big things!
  19. I just checked mine. The engine is definitely in the same place on my NX as it was on my IS albeit turned through 90 degrees as mentioned above. How can we trust everything we read on the internet if the graphics in our cars are also wrong?
  20. Oh yes. I checked with the dealership about what I'd have to do to swap to 12.5k miles service intervals and they said I can't. It's something the lease companies have negotiated with Lexus and private owners, even those who may have bought their car through their company, have to stick to the standard 1 year / 10k miles intervals.
