  1. I've only dealt with Lexus Leeds once, back when I was driving my IS300. But I found them to be extremely helpful and the service manager was most enthusiastic about seeing the car because there aren't that many about. Makes a change from some dealers who might as well be selling white goods.
  2. If I were you Erik I'd join the US forum and probably Club Lexus and ask about trusted specialists in your area.
  3. Put the torch hard up to one side of the tank and look through the tank from the other side. Nudge the car as you're doing it and ideally you should see the pink coolant moving.

  5. Agreed. Buying and selling is virtually my hobby but I'll usually exclude cars with hidden plates right from the offset.
  6. I don't think £4k is out of all reason for that car from a dealer. And if you've seen it in the flesh, driven it and the service history is good then go for it. Dash could be a cosmetic repair and you might be able to fix the tailgate yourself. MOT history is OK but factor in some suspension work. I'd also check all the dash lights come on and go out at start up. A fault is mentioned in the history. Make sure someone hasn't just disabled the bulb. I wouldn't compare to a 350 because they're nearly double the road tax and also people do forget that dealers are doing this to make a living not out of the goodness of their heart.
  7. Not so easy to tell but that looks like an O2 sensor that's sheered off. Would also explain the check engine light.
  8. I'd agree with all that Les, especially your thoughts on the Eyesight system. We have a lot of foreign students in Sheffield and it's happened before but sometimes they look the wrong way before stepping into the road. This happened again the other day and I did react but also noticed the Eyesight was ready to kick in if I hadn't. But while you're playing follow the leader in town watch out for roundabouts!
  9. I can't tell you more than you probably already know. HJ went into administration and I assumed the man himself had retired.
  10. I suppose it's possible the oil could be the issue but you say the levels are OK. Regardless, I use genuine Toyota 10W40 semi-synthetic in my '96 LS. Toyota/Lexus default to the fully synthetics now because that's what the use on the newer vehicles. Have you checked the oil filter is seated correctly?
  11. Will do. But he's not annoying is he? He looks annoying Probably a good 80% of YT content I start and don't finish is down to the presenter rather than content. Anyone else do this? The Germans probably have a word for it.

  16. Looks like 225/55 17s might fit the bill. I think I was overthinking this a little. I'm aware of speedo accuracy etc and I'd used willtheyfit and a couple of others but imagined it was all a bit more of a dark art than it actually is. Oponeo has a matching feature that lists dozens of sizes that will fit.
  17. I'm toying with the idea of putting some fancy new wheels on my LS 400. I know which wheels I want and to clear the LS brakes with this particular wheel I will have to go from the standard 7Jx16 ET45 wheels with 225/60 R16 tyres to 8Jx17 ET45 wheels. But what size tyre should I go for? I'll be honest, in all my years I've never put aftermarket wheels on a car so this has never come up. I know I'll lose a little ride quality going from 16s to 17s so ideally I'd like to keep as much sidewall as possible. Can anyone advise?

  19. Agreed. I've had some absolute shockers done. Particularly on the Saabs. If you look really closely there may be a little bit of pitting where the worse of the corrosion was and the powder coat hasn't been able to level but nothing that jumps out at you. With this sort of cosmetic work it needs to be established from the start that the car is only worth £2k - £3k and you just want it to look better. Without actually saying it! A job to a good standard rather than something showroom. Am I making sense?
