  4. I've received that recommendation many, many times over the years, for having the system constantly active maintains and lubricates the system seals most effectively.
  5. It's all a rather subjective subject (with fans v critics) covering every opinion. My experience - for what it's worth, is that my 9-year-old RX ran acceptably well on E10 simply because I thought that was how it was meant to run. It would be a trifle more responsive on Branded E5 (or it was my imagination), but didn't use it too often, just occasionally would maybe clean the engine a little (?) Post Pandemic, the premium attached to E5 locally was anything up to 15p per litre ("Funny - I thought" (in my best Dudley Moore voice)) - - someone was extracting the Michael. And, on one of the many threads on here, I noticed several recommendations for Millers Oils EPS - Multi Shot Ethanol Protection Fuel Additive, which is meant to combat some of the negative effects of E10 upon the fuel system, and also lifts the fuel rating by a point or two. (and allows one to use E10) I'm currently on my fourth tank of petrol (E10) dosed with Millers Oils EPS - and it has made a difference (or I'm imagining it) to the car's performance, being just a little more responsive (though my racing days are over), but it HAS improved my MPG, both city and motorway driving, by, at the moment, 5%. I'm happy with that, and IF it also "takes better care of me fuel system", then I'm very happy. It costs £28 for a litre from Demontweeks via eBay, s0 works out at 3p per dosed litre of fuel.

  8. Just a note to thank everyone on this thread for the informative and helpful (as ever) content. Our car outlives the Relax warranty later this year, and I too shall now have discussions with our Lexus chaps to arrange a Ten Year Plus Warranty. Thanks for all the information - this may well have made my next conversation a deal easier and quicker.

  10. Hi Neil, Well, if you're using a laptop/PC (for example) to access LOC, enter www.lexusownersclub.co.uk into the internet address bar, - and it'll open the LOC at the 'home' address. Bookmark the page, (it'll add the LOC icon to your bookmarks) and simply click on that to access the club. (I'm not a 'techie', so I may not have used correct terminology, but does that help)?
  11. Paul, The most effective way of avoiding any risk of power spike when changing your battery is to ensure that there is an alternative 12v supply connected to the car during the changeover. One can either have a spare battery connected by (say) jump start leads to your existing battery leads BEFORE you disconnect them,and leave them on until you've installed and connected the new battery (so in effect - your car isn't aware that the supply is changing), OR, I have a lithium jump starter (Noco) that I plug into my OBD port (during the replacement process) that maintains the 12v supply. An article in the Guardian rag in June 2023: The Opec+ group of oil-producing countries has reached an agreement to extend output cuts into next year, in the face of flagging prices and a looming supply glut. The oil cartel reportedly agreed to reduce its output by 1.4m barrels a day, at a meeting in Vienna on Sunday of member countries – which include the big producers Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Russia. Opec+ sources told Reuters that the group was likely to agree a “policy rollover” for 2023 and make additional reductions in output in 2024 if new production baselines, from which cuts and quotas are calculated, for members were agreed. Saudi Arabia has agreed to make a voluntary reduction of 500,000 barrels a day in its output, although it is not clear when the cuts will begin. Opec+, which groups the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and allies led by Russia, produces about 40% of the world’s crude, meaning its policy decisions can have a significant impact on oil prices.
  13. Mmmmmm. Unfortunately, you are asking a question that's impossible for us to answer (with any authority), for it all depends upon the particular staff, in your chosen Halfords. In my local branches - I wouldn't trust them to tell me the correct time, let alone do any work on my car. (You may be luckier in Port Talbot of course). Personally, I'd suggest that you replace the battery yourself, (it really isn't too demanding, however, if you'd rather a garage fit one, speak to a good local independent garage, and tell them exactly what battery you want fitting.
  14. I suspect there comes a point where for the 'main branded' insurance houses have an age cut-off point purely on the basis of an increased difficulty in obtaining components. It looks as if you'll be spending more time with one of the specialist 'classic car' insurers (and some of them are very good!)

  17. That % of increase is "about" 'par for the course', particularly with the 'more reputable' insurers. And LV will probably have sent you an explanatory note with your proposal, covering all the key elements affecting the higher costs.
  18. That's a fair amount of work that the dealer accepted that you should undertake for an £150 reduction in price....... Particularly when the dealership will have been completely aware of the damage prior to selling it...... (I bet I'm not the only member that has arrived at that conclusion) But, as there is more than one dealership in Yorkshire, in your experience, which one may I be prudent to be cautious of (with no reference to this particular problem of course).
