  1. Of course! (And use an hydrophobic treatment every month too, it really makes a difference!
  2. Anton, What an excellent first post on the Forum. That's a well constructed and beautifully illustrated article. Come the day when I need to install a new battery, I will make a point of reading this article again. Thank you.
  3. Whilst I cannot make an informed observation on the SatNav issue, your battery reading only 11.8v is most certainly an issue, and cold weather will certainly pinpoint that. I would get a new battery pdq. (and yes - you may well find the SatNav's a little happier too!)
  4. Hi Kathleen, I have an RX450 (so not an IS300), but I would suggest that 12,000 miles is a fairly low figure for a set of tyres. Understandably, tyre wear is contingent on many factors, the road surfaces, the volume of city stop/start driving, the tyre itself, maintenance of tyre pressure, check your tracking regularly, (every year)and, not the least - one's driving style. I've only driven 6,000 miles on my current set of tyres in this car, but my previous motor was a heavy (and fast!) Mercedes S500, and I'd never achieved less than 30,000 miles out of a set on that. Mind you, I normally accelerate gently, and apply the brakes even more gently, (and being retired means I don't have to join the rush-hour Grand prix every day)
  5. We bought our Miele Washer/dryer in 2010, we have since completed 2,021 wash cycles on it, and it hasn't missed a beat! Everything about it still works perfectly. Stunning result.
  6. Unfortunately not - (As F.A.'s answer above) I suggest you purchase a good quality tyre pressure gauge and use that rather than rely upon the gauges fitted to air provision stations at petrol stations.
  7. Use a watering can over small areas of the roof. Preferably on different days Over just 1 square metre at a time And use different colour dyes in the water each time!
  8. There are SO many variables in one's insurance costs - but there are two major variables that can 'hit' you without apparent reason: The insurer's decision to attract/detract from customers of your profile And/Or the increased/decreased incidence of car damage/theft/incident claims in your area OR Something else. Just keep looking around for quotes squire!
  9. Forhad. If you haven't already spent all your pennies this last week, one of these is a proper life-saver if you ever need a jump start NOCO Boost I always keep mine handy, and it's helped numerous folks out (including me!)
  10. Of course. I'll admit that my thought process (and rationale) started three+ years ago, when the interest rates on savings were damn-all of tuppence, I accept that things are a trifle different now!
  11. Hi Andy, It's a matter of choice, of course, but my take on this is that you've effectively inflation-proofed your servicing costs for three years (all the service costs are calculated at current prices), and you've easy-payment terms without any interest charges, and the best equipped specialist for your car. Which is why I do the same as you.
  12. Just to underline the point that Colin and Herbie have made, our RX450's are not electric vehicles, they are hybrids, where the main two jobs of the electric power is to move the car for the first few yards, and it noticeably cuts in when we accelerate hard. - No matter how slowly you travel in that there London's traffic, your petrol engine will cut in whenever your battery requires charging - - even if you're standing at the traffic lights. You'll achieve maximum mpg (which will still be low 30's in winter) with a gentle driving style, and a 'hyper-miling' approach (it's worth looking it up on't'internet) It's also worth remembering that we're piloting 21/2 tonne of un-aerodynamic truck, so 30+ mpg in town traffic is not a bad result at all
  13. Thanks for the update George. 🤞
  14. I have used (successfully) various iterations of this idea, but by far and away the best engineered and most effective 'arm' is the one I bought from "Invisible Glass" https://www.invisibleglass.co.uk/shop/invisible-glass-reach-clean-kit-with-2-microfibre-cloths/
  15. Piers, old bean... Delighted to learn of your news. The Pro state-of-the-art bio-spy gives an all-clear! I feel your relief, dear boy. Now celebrate (and don't go running any marathons soon!) 👋
  16. I am amazed that anyone could possibly believe that electric vehicles would remain untaxed, for the simple reason that the previous year's tax revenue from 'Road Tax' (VED) was in excess of £7Bn. As soon as some vehicle owners are allowed to pay less VED, then there's going to be a shortfall in optimum revenue collection. The UK is fairly desperate for revenue - (and will be for some years to come), so the likelihood of dishing out 'free passes to car ownership' is less likely to happen than Elon Musk inviting me on to his Board of Directors. VED rates by size/type of vehicle will always change, (normally increase at least by the rate of inflation), and, to quote Benjamin Franklin ".....in this world, nothing is certain except death and taxes"

I think that British Rail bacon sandwiches were a poor imitation of proper sandwiches
  18. I researched, specified and fitted four solar panels to our boat 10 years ago, (so, my needs then were very different from domestic requirements today and for the foreseeable future - and technology has moved apace too) However, the principles are similar. One needs to determine the likely available level of light available in each given location, the type of panel most suitable for that location, how and when you wish to use the power, the capacity of your battery bank (and the optimum is relevant to all the previously listed parameters AND the cost/charging rate of the various battery types, and the most efficient controllers to drive it all. The process can be complicated, and there are many (energy vs cost) variables, so please don't scrimp with your research, (and do NOT accept initial quotes) Also be prepared to accept that maximum power is provided when you need it least (bright summer days) and comparatively little is available when you need it most (winter)
  19. Unfortunately you're accurate. It's because wagon-pilots are wholly obsessed with their own being, their 'schedule', their driving time limits, and believe that these parameters are supreme to road safety or any other road traffic's requirements. Unfortunately, Bus drivers, taxi pilots, couriers and all other road users (including cyclists and e-scooter astronauts) hold similar beliefs.
  20. UK Highway Code: Rule 57 When in a vehicle make sure dogs or other animals are suitably restrained so they cannot distract you while you are driving or injure you, or themselves, if you stop quickly. A seat belt harness, pet carrier, dog cage or dog guard are ways of restraining animals in cars.
