  2. I use two separate Lexus dealers and both use the Toyota workshops attached to the Toyota/Lexus sites as not all Lexus dealers have their own workshop...save for Maidstone (Marshals) when it was there which it shared with all the Marshal dealers (Hyundai, Maserati etc etc) never had issue with either as apparently they have Toyota techs who are also Lexus master techs .....end of the day its all Toyota and my warranty is kept intact for both my Hybrid and petrol V8.
  3. I swapped my IS 300h for a NX300H. The USB is greyed out on the available media screen on the NX but It played and was readily accessible on the IS. The stick works fine on my computer. Any ideas??
  4. Smart chargers are reverse polarity protected ...they won't charge if wrongly connected.
  5. For all that, there appear to be many up for sale. Is that just because a good number are reaching three years, or is more in play, such as the widely-reported theft issue?
  6. Well the dreaded insurance reminder came through the other day from Churchill, and it's gone up from £284 last year to £461 this year. I couldn't believe it as the wifes car insurance had only gone up £25, after a short while on the comparison sites I got it down to £394, so then after a short phone call with Churchill they gave a quote of £393, it's better than the £461 but I'm still not happy. I don't know if it's age related or car so just for a laugh I asked for a quote on a 2018 Toyota CHR Hybrid and that came in at £520, the reason for that was we considered going down to one car, but what saving can we make, we only pay £35 road tax for both cars and a combined insurance and tax is £700, the road tax for the CHR is £180 combined with the insurance is £700 so we wouldn't save anything going to one car, so much for the incentive.

  8. Speaking to someone who has just purchased a Lexus ES 300h. He has had three previous Jaguar cars. He said that the Lexus build quality is far better than all his previous Jags. His last Jag - a 2.0 diesel (Ithink?) had to have the DPF replaced at a cost of £3000! He loves the CVT box and seamless changes from electric to ICE.
  9. That isn’t good news, what is the correct way if you don’t mind me asking?
  10. Its obvious now. One of my all time favourite classics. Simon Templars old steed regenerated.
  11. Not sure if a celebration is in order but the replacement Injector Driver has been fitted. No change, just cranked but didn't start so after a few attempts, out with Techstream. I had Errors! B1421 and B1424 Both relate to the Solar panel. Air Con has always worked fine but in any case, not relevant here. P12FF - Electric Driver Unit. This is the Injector ECU I had just changed! My heart sank, had I bought a dud? Was it mis-diagnosed? The crank was different, the car seemed like it was trying to catch which it never did before. I had a couple of half starts so persevered. I assumed the engine was flooded due to so many attempted starts and after a while it felt like one cylinder caught, then two, then three, then four..thats enough, SEND IT! Right foot down and up it stumbled and burst into life. I held it at 3k rpm for about a minute, too scared to lift off in case it stalled. Once at 3k rpm it seemed fine, juggled it between 3-5k rpm then tentatively bought it back down. Settled okay and left it idling for about 30mins. Turned it off, crossed my fingers and restarted, no problem at all. Shut down and restarted at least a dozen times, all fine. P12FF code has gone, only the Solar errors remain which I'm not bothered about. More testing required before I venture it out on the road, sadly it needs fuel so I will need to shut down away from home. Wish me luck 🙂
  12. Well, kudos to Lexus, I guess. Of course this scheme will be first and foremost, a marketing tactic to remove one of the obstacles that might be in the way of Joe Public buying one of their EVs. But, I give them credit for at least acknowledging the problem instead of burying their heads in the sand about it. EVs have their place, but covering long distances in an efficient manner clearly isn't one of them. Not with the current technology and infrastructure. Imagine what life would be like if all those vehicles currently transporting goods and services across the country, were forced to stop every couple of hours for 30-40mins. It would be an absolute shambles. Some of the things we've grown accustomed to, would be thrown into chaos, or at a minimum, severely disrupted - Fresh produce on the shelves when the shops open? Next-day delivery for your online purchases? Newspaper through your letterbox at 7am? Forget it!
  13. Just bought a spare set of wheels to refurb.
  14. Great insightful response as always Linas! The big brake upgrade is something I do wish to do down the line and Im planning on getting Michelin Cross Climate 2's all around in addition to the RCF LCA upgrade to prevent premature tire wear
  15. I work with these cars & i can confirm that the majority of them need jump starting all the time. Im not sure about UXE but the RX 450+ can die if you jump it wrong, needs a new ECU.
  16. The smaller one is fine for any Lexus hybrid or EV because the 12v battery isn't used to start the petrol engine and therefore it won't draw much power. You have want a larger one to support other petrol/diesel cars you might own or help out other people's cars.
  17. It is the later - servicing brake callipers is simply not part of service manual. In principle Lexus considers brake callipers a disposable item/unit which is not serviceable. They view - callipers simply get replaced every 3-5 years, with every 3rd set of pads or something like that. Obviously, it doesn't have to be that way and simply taking them apart and greasing them with either dedicated brake lubricant (I tend to use molybdenum grease) or indeed simple red rubber grease once a year is all they need. As for the pad choice - OEM are simply very dusty and also aggressive on disks. I think that is by design and IS250 brakes are undersized for the weight of the car. I tried Brembo and Bosch and both kind of sucked, just worn out quickly. I tried one of the EBC pads, can remember maybe Yellow or Green stuff (street or OEM+) and they were good in terms of wear and dust, but they squealed (it is possible it was not pads fault, but that is my memory of them). Mintex also squealed, but they were on Mintex drilled disks which altogether were bad idea. Then at some point when I was giving the car away it needed whole thing to be done, I got some cheap stuff, Brembo disks (as they were the cheapest) and Eicher pads... and as far as I know they were alright, sort of same performance as OEM. I guess the point I am trying to make - IS250 brakes are just generally not great, so pads and disks choice doesn't make huge difference. Make sure to avoid drilled disks as they easily overheat warp, but apart of that 99% of braking difference is in the tyres, not the brand of pads or disks. So invest in tyres, or get brake kit from IS350/GS300/GS450 etc. The 4 piston fronts are huge upgrade in sense of maintenance, much less dust, much less wear on disk, smoother braking (less grabby), but the rear slider pins will always remain an issue, just bad calliper design. P.S. I suggest you use Autodoc, ECP sometimes have huge discounts and work out better, but on average Autodoc is better and there were rumours that some of the more premium brands are sometimes faked in ECP (Denso, Brembo etc.).
  18. When my car was being returned from the last service I received the post service call from the service manager to go through things. I was told all 4 tyres were cracking and would need replacing soon, when I informed the him that the tyres were less than a month old he stuttered and said he was looking at the wrong paperwork. He told me to throw away the paperwork that was in the car and that he would send me the correct paperwork in the post (paperwork was for 2018 NX). It took over two weeks to get the replacement paperwork and even then I don’t think I received all of it, and I had to pester to get that. Quality has certainly dropped
  19. That is actually strange, must be some sort of agreement that specific Toyota dealer has, or maybe they own Lexus dealer nearby... My local Toyota actually tried to upsell me for service some time ago when I was buying Lexus parts there. The guy run the quote saying "service with us it is the same service", but then the cost just didn't make sense. I think Toyota service turned out to be something like £218 and back then Lexus "Essential Care" was £180. And there were some other omissions, I don't remember what exactly, but no wash (which to be fair I don't care about) and maybe no hybrid check on Lexus cars (which also I didn't care about as mine wasn't hybrid). I just remember joking with the guy saying "how comes it works out more expensive than Lexus, yet you do less?!" So it was kind of funny, because he literally approached me and was like "do you own Lexus? Why don't you service with us, it is way cheaper!"... and then it turns out it is more. That said - Lexus "Essential Care" is long gone, so perhaps nowadays it would be slightly cheaper e.g. minor service for my GS300 is something like £320 or £340 at Lexus, the do make 20% discretionary discount when I ask why they not doing "Essential Care" anymore, but it still works out ~£270. So £218 would be cheaper, but that said this whole story happened like 6 year ago, maybe more... so I wonder what Toyota service costs now, surely it didn't become cheaper!
  20. Well there we are . that new under balance of the RAC Warranty replacement VARTA battery, died a death and the garage couldn't get it to hold it's charge over the weeks they've had the car waiting for the replacement radiator ............ so with all the above work they also replaced the battery ... £66 ? I thought I heard him say ! ...... so let's hope that lasts 3 years then ! NOW the full works cost me £340 incl the new battery ..... drain and refill the gearbox and its oil AND he's managed to remove the orange warning lights on the dash about this too after some years ......... The Honda has to go back after a month for another gearbox oil drain and refill he says ... so that's in the diary ! New Radiator cost £ 144.12 from Autodoc and the other ....... labour/gearbox oil/ new radiator coolant and then new battery costs of .... £340 ....... Total £480 Not too bad to save the gearbox whatever . and she runs as before, as smooth as silk ... but no comparison to the Ls400s eh ! 👍 Malc Lesson ...... Varta are rubbish
  21. Wirebrush & intense heat failing that cut it off & replace with inner & outer tie rod.
  22. I don't get it either. What could have driven this decision? Surely its more efficient for customers and better for their brand to be able to market a larger service network if all toyota workshops can service Lexuses? Also as far as premumness goes.... I am yet to experience their "premium" service quality. So far it has only been average at best.
  23. I have had mine serviced at my local Toyota dealership as it’s only 1 mile away as opposed to 30miles away. They have carried out a full service (without the hybrid health check as they won’t/ can’t carry this out, even though it would be the same for a Toyota). Also they have done air con regas and discs and pads renewal. I reverted back to Lexus to have the relax warranty and also they pick up and return my car. The Lexus dealership is the same franchise as my local Toyota and have Toyota dealership in the same building so probably the same workshop, so which mechanics will carry out the routine maintenance, I can make a guess? They also have an over 10 year maintenance price for Lexus which I can’t see at sole Lexus dealers.
  24. your missing the point. i think my asumption is they farm them out to a back street garage for servicing is correct
  25. I think it’s summat you make-up yourself to put in the under front seat storage box Malc
