Strange one this. When driving in a straight line, the wipers work fine with the drivers side one going to within about four inches or so of the screen pillar most of the time. However, when I turn left, the blade will hit the pillar with a resounding 'clonk'. Soon as I straighten up,things go back to normal. Turning right doesn't affect it. I've obviously adjusted the arm so that it 'parks' correctly and sits just out of sight when wipers switched off. Nut securing the arm is not loose. Weird - any ideas?. Ta.

Is it possible that the wiper rubber (not the arm) is loose and shifting during turns. I had that happen years ago in another make of car. If it is, just squeeze the holding clamps together with a pair of pliers - not TOO tight, though, because a bit of movement is necessary to prevent squeak and judder.

Wierd.

I suppose you could narrow it down a bit by trying steering with the car stationary.

If the fault appears, then at least you know it's related to the actual steering, rather than the movement of the car itself.

Next step....................erm???

Strange. Only "clonk" I get is with Aerowipers when they return to Park the passenger side hits the bonnet. Nuisance and couldn't work out how to stop this so probably taking the paint off the bonnet edge ever so slightly. S'pose I should get a slightly shorter blade for it than original size.

If the wiper arms have been removed for one reason or another, e.g. for replacement windscreen etc., it is crucial that they go back onto the splines in exactly the same position that they were removed from. If not, the arm will 'bang' on either the bonnet or the pillar.

I replaced Bosch with Bosch last winter. It has done this ever since I have had car. Windscreen replaced a few months ago. Had to adjust this arm as it hit the scuttle after screen replacement. It sits nicely in the park position without hitting the scuttle now,but still hits the pillar when turning left!. Will have another look at the weekend to check the arm. I have a 14lb sledgehammer on stand-by.

prob something simple, the original wipers have a wind deflector/aerofoil fitted,to push the blade onto screen, perhaps its working in reverse, when you turn, the new ones i got have'nt got that on my replacements, mine were only cheap flat rubber aero blades, only just over a fiver from eBay but work beautifully,no judders,or anything.

There is a stop buffer in the scuttle the wipers should park firmly against at the end of thier park cycle. If you want to set the wipers in their correct position on the spline remove the wipers and arms from the splines whilst the wipers are vertical ,the best way to do this, switch ignition off whilst wiper is in the vertical position. It is easier to take the pressure off the arm whilst in this position so they come off the spline straight, turn the ignition back on and turn off the wipers. Now replace the wipers on the spline with the wipers resting directly on the parking stops.

This will place the wipers exactly were they should be in relation to the screen.
