Auto Performace Mods

I have quite a few (cosmetic) plans for my IS as soon as I can get reasonable insurance sorted (renewal due in september) or the lexus loan is done (18 months) or I land a bit more extra cash :shifty: ... Imported Chromes, Lowering, Tinting and A Classy Bodykit and few bits and bobs.

But now getting to point of the post, is that I dont want my car to be a bimbo, full of make up and then NO goods underneath!! So i was looking at tuning options for the 200Auto. Is it worth pouring loadsa money into a 200, or should I upgrade to a 300 and pour money into that?

Please note, that the main reasons holding me back from modifying are the insurance issues i'm only 20 and insured under my old mans policy.

Maybe get a Tez.... the auto/tip is 200BHP s standard, with loads of potential?

lol, when i saw Scots name on the last replied, i knew what the answer would be.

Thing is I want to keep this car til i'm old and grey (my first bit of class). But I just might be tempted to get a Tezz, if its Black, with (Black) Leather Interior and UK OEM Sat Nav and 17"s.

The Tezz is better on fuel too isnt it? I only got 22mpg on a round trip of 120miles to bham this morning :crying: £20!!!

I'm just not sure about the whole import thing. Was looking at Tezzs when I was buying, but no leather and sat nav was a big NO NO.

Are there S/C or Turbo options for the auto tezz?

 Thanks mate.... you trying to say i`m predictable? :D

I honestly wouldn`t worry about imports, as long as the car has the relevent certificates to prove the mileage/not stolen (BIMTA), you can`t go wrong. Yes the S/C and turbo kits will fit the auto.

Is the auto is200 a tiptronic?? I can`t remember... :duh:

You could always get a leather trim put into it mate? I recently bought one off eBay for just over £400 ( Black leather/suede ) Take one for a test drive and see what you think. I don`t think you will look back. Also they are quicker off the mark that the thirsty 3 litre.

Thanks for all the replies and advice!!

Yes the standard 200bhp and tip tronic gears sound nice! But i cant do without the leather seats, premium LEXUS soundsystem, and the sat nav. Yes I know they can be added later, but thats just a big hassle, and swaping cars will be a big hassle. And as I brought from car from a main dealer there is no way I'll get it near that amount back! So after a fair bit of thinking, i'm gonna stick with is200  ... a test drive in an auto tezz might change my mind tho.. ;) thats after I find one

As for supercharging it, what improvement will it make? The stock 0-60 is 11 secs i think, so is it just gonna be 3 secs of that? 8secs... ?

I've seen loads of merc compressors come in auto form.. whats the story with those?

  • 1 month later...

My ma and da have a C230Kompressor Sport Merc and for older folk it's pretty swift, looking at around 8.2 on the auto box.

If you want real power you have to go with a JDM model jap car as opposed to UK. Jap models are virtually always quicker(Supra TT exception) and they are geared to be tuned later as tuning cars is a way of life in Japan, RS200 altezza in L edition has leather and often come with excellent aftermarket stereos, 0-60mph is 8 I believe with auto box and supercharger, cat back high flow exchaust, induction kit, ECU will give you serious pace, the IS300 tuned wouldn't match it and of course there is very little available for the UK IS models.

Doubt i'll go for any performance mods now, not due to the price but the :tsktsk: INSURANCE doesnt make it very fesiable.

Instead i'll probably be looking to add a Mk2 V300 to my collection (when the time comes). So my IS will be all show and no go
