Update on Engine Knock/Vibration on 2016 RX 450 F-Sport

Recommended Posts

We agreed with Lexus Gatwick that the 30 Day Exchange can continue past the 30 days as they've been busy and haven't been able to supply Courtesy Car, but letter was sent after Two Weeks telling them we don't want the Cat unless the Engine Knocking/Vibration is repaired.

So hopefully Car will be picked up this week to either be repaired or a replacement Vehicle found.

Just done another Video today on Monday 14th February (Got days mixed up on Video and said Tuesday ! )

Noise is still there after being left about 15 mins after being driven and still warm and is doing exactly the same as before (Sorts itself out after about 15 Secs)

If anything, I'd say the first part of Engine Knock is as loud as ive heard it.

Really hoping they get it fixed and don't tell me it's a Cycle the Engine goes through again.

What's the mileage when this started to happen?

The Car has done 75000+ Miles and has Full Lexus Service History .

We only bought the Car from Lexus literally Four odd weeks ago and noticed the problem straight away, so unless The Dealer can sort the knocking out, it will be going back on the 30 Day Exchange.

Hopefully they can as it's a lovely Car apart from that !

Yep that sounds like an injector alright.

Same thing was happening to mine until they changed the injector. Have they not done this yet? Mine was done within 3 days

Hi rayaans

Just got back from Lexus and had a very nice meeting with their very knowledgeable Master Technician Tim .

He told me that the car had been plugged into their Diagnostics but was not picking up any faults at all on the last visit.

I showed him the last Video which is on here, and straight away he heard the much louder knocking and saw the Vibration and knew instantly what it was due to the time it was happening .

You were right, one Injector .  i can't remember but he said Three do one thing and Three do another, and narrowed it down the one set of Three !

They've been ordered and its going in next week to to be repaired ..... Will keep you posted .

Thanks to you and everyone

@robpace

Fair play to you for staying calm and rational. Plenty of people would have been shouting the odds, claiming that Lexus was unreliable and rubbish etc etc. From what I can tell you’ve avoided those pitfalls, given the dealer the chance to put things right and - hopefully - you’ll end up with a great car because of it.

Things do go wrong. The test for any brand is how they deal with those things when they happen. Being polite and reasonable with the dealer will get better results 99% of the time than being adversarial. I wish more people took your approach. Bravo!

We've had Three Lexus now, an RX300, 2010 RX450h and this 2016 RX450h F -Sport.

Only problems we've had are this and a Front Suspension Leg on the RX 300

Didn't realise but found out today that Lexus do a thing called Lexus Relax that covers new and used Vehicles bought from them and are Serviced by Lexus for 100000 Miles or 10 Years, whatever comes first .

We always get our Car Serviced by them so it's like a new One Year Warranty after each Service, so going by our usual 5000 Miles a year, well be covered until January 2026

I think he said Mechanical Parts are covered !

Well that would exclude for example Headlights at some £1,000 each if required, electronics and a number of other parts.  Lexus have increased the cost of servicing in order to provide the 'Relax' cover and almost certainly hedged cover for potential costs through insurer.

And you can also continue after the Relax comes to an end with a paid for annual Lexus 10 Year Plus Extended Warranty (around £500 to £600 per annum depending on model and this includes the Lexus roadside assistance package too worth £125 of it) for up to 15 years old / 150k miles (whichever comes first) but you do need to have the car serviced by Lexus.

Whilst the "free" Relax warranty is not as all-encompassing as the original warranty it remains a pretty unique service proposition. I fully expect your problem to be fully covered however not necessarily through the Relax programme but because it was there at the point of purchase and that's a decision the garage can make and not a time-delaying third party . I don't know about others but I would be very disappointed if no courtesy car can be found? I mean how hard can it be to rent one or take one from a staff member. I am assuming the car is in an unusable position or that driving it may cause further damage 😎
