Embarrassed or caught out by lexus trickery ?

Windscreen washers packed up yesterday.......filled up with water today.....still didnt work.......checked fuses.....all OK......no noise from washers.....going 400 miles tomorrow.....rain forecast.......mmmmm

called RAC out (feeling a prat) duly arrived agreed fuses OK......suggested taking all fuses out as the fusebox is sometimes not labelled.......he fiddled for a while......then bingo......water,water everywhere.........However when I said what did you do .......he said......pressed this button ! Since April I've been pulling the wiper stalk to me to operate the washer & wipers for 5 wipes......he pressed the end of the stalk !! felt less than 1" tall.......BUT until he fiddled with the fuses pulling the stalk back produced water & wipes.....now its one wipe & no water......press the t*t one the end and we have water.......mmmmm

So...how do your washers work !!!!!:o

My washers work by pressing the button on the end of the stalk which inturn makes the wipers activate a couple of times. If i pull back on the stalk the wipers just do one sweep without any wishy washy

All I can say is I'm not a muppet ! Prior to y/day pulling the wiper stalk towards me generated water and several wipes of the screen........What I didnt mention was that the RAC man took out the wiper fuse and they still worked.......twas when he replaced it with a puzzled look on his face that the wipers reverted to "normal"

Wonder if the previous owner had some extras fitted.......no evidence of it tho.....

DaveEllen,

You ARE right.

As far as I know MY car works by pulling the stalk towards me, I then get water and about 3 wipes.

I have NEVER pushed the end of the stalk.

I will confirm this when I get home.

What year is yours, mine is Dec 1999.

Mine's a Jan 2000 so one of the early one's, I did think that I pulled it towards me when I first read this, but I've just been down to the car to check and sure enough that does nothing, you have to press the button on the end (the one with the little picture of water squirting out)!

to add to the confusion:

my 2001 car doesn't squirt water when i pull the stalk, I have to press the cleverly labelled button ;)

but the 2002 car (with the 6 washer jets instead of 4) i borrowed the other week did squirt water but only the first time i pulled the stalk after starting the car - subsequent pulls did nothing

(and for the real detail freaks - like me - the button on the end of the stalk is concave on the 2002 and convex on the 2001 :D )

if it makes you feel any better, i am an idiot - i spent ages trying to scrape off a white paint mark on the heated windscreen switch only to realise it was a picture of the door mirror
