Ipod In Rx300 - Is It Possible

Recommended Posts

I'm searching the internet for quiet a few houres now without finding a answer to my question:

Is it possible to connect one of the ipod connectors to the RX300 soundsystem?

I'v have a '01 RX300 with in-dash cd-changer and touchscreen navigation system. Everything but this type is compatible with Ice Link, Neo Ion, PIE or PAC adapters.

Only the people of Ice Link answered my mail and said they were working on a solution for my car. But when?? They couldn't tell me why this solution won't work on a RX.

So, is there anyone who has tried one of these adapters? If I invest in an adapter it has to go hte whole way. track control with the radio controls.

Let me know!

I used an Ipod on my trip and instead of hard wiring just used the GriffiniTrip accessory which allows you to play your music via any fm station in your car....

its an FM Transmitter for the Ipod....don't know if its sold here but its available in the US.

Worked a treat and the girls loved controlling the music from the back..

I've tried the iTrip, it ended up in the bin, the quality is just too bad.

I'm using a cassette adapter at the moment, not very elegant, but the only solution I'm affraid.

Whoops - above is IceLink (posted before morning coffee).

They do list RX330. As you note, have to try it.

I've been in contact with the people of dension but there is something fishy about the sound system in my Lexus. It would use a proprietary code(???) to command de cd-changer what results in an incompatibility with a lot of solutions like IceLink.

I've put my cards on Icruze from Monster now (not released yet). I've mailed several times to them to check compatibility but they don't answer me (not a good sign).

If this doesn't work out I will go for the FM decoder solution.

I've been in contact with them several times.. sometimes they say it's possible, sometimes not. At the paris Motor Show I went to their stand and I was told it is NOT possible at the moment.

Again the cassette adapter is the only solution for decent sound quality, especially if you travel far, like I do; You keep on changing FM frequencies to get any sound out of them without some local radio interfering.

I guess I have to give up my quest for a nice integrated system for my car. I think I'm gona go for the cassette adapter and a cigarette lighter charger.

On the dension site I've found a nice Ipod mount that can be attached to he dash without drilling or screwing.

Thanx for the post anyway.

At last! Some light at the end of the tunnel. I gave myself up as a tester but I doubt they will select a tester who lives in Belgium.

The only thing I find curious is the fact that none of their products are released yet!!

The price is another thing but if it works I'm willing to spend the money.

There is some debate in "SC models" from last December about doing this with an iTrip. It seems to have been a success.

I've an iTrip and it sucks. In my RX I can nearly catch a frequency due to the fact that the antenna is located in the back (I think).

In my little Opel Corsa is it bearable but since the FM band in Belgium is crowded as a subway in Tokyo it's not usable if you drive further than 10 km.

I only use it to play my Ipod music on my stereo where the Ipod is on top of the stereo.

So my advice is: don't buy it! Go for the real stuff.

ThankS! That sounds promising..it's not cheap but if it works than I'm a client.

Would this installation break any warranties?

Anyone get a reply from the VAIS people?

I've got contact with them but they communicate very slow. I have to wait 48 hrs. before they reply my mails. (I'm aware there is a time difference)

I wanted an adapter before 22/12 but that seems to be impossible. And pretty expensive +/- 400$ to.

So I'm going for a dutch company that is distributor of ICE-LINK. They sell a package with CRADLE to hook up to an AUX port. I talked to my lexus dealer and they said it is possible to make a y-splitter on the CD-port. The mayor drawbacks are:

- no control of the ipod on the factory unit

- you have to use a blank burned cd in the changer during ipod use.

But better than nothing and a lot cheaper.

I've scheduled the installation of the cradle for Wednesday. I will post some pictures of it.

In the mean time you can have a look at http://www.icepod.nl/, the site is in dutch but you can get translated online.

BTW, I left the aux splitter for what it is and went for the hardwired fm modulator. My dealer wasn't sure that he could fix a good y-splitter, so no risks. The people of IcePod insured me that the soundquality isn't cd quality but practicly the same. So if I listen to the radio all day and I find that quality ok then will a hardwired fm modulator sound pretty good.
