Oh dear.....warning Lights Came On

Recommended Posts

Driving back from Hamburg yesterday with Hart'y.....at 30mph cos the tree huggers forgot to salt the autobahn

pulled of to have a break...when the "engine check "lightcame on and the "trac off" light started flashing, the rpm rose to 2500rpm and any attempts to alter the rpm with the accelerator pedal did nothing..as if it wasnt connected.

******............

so we pulled the ecu and trac fuses....and then replaced them a few moments later....

switch on the engine...still wierd, but the hanging rpm has gone.

pull of at the next services, pull the ecu fuses again..go for coffee....fag and Number 2,......so 30 mins later replace the fuses, car starts fine...no warning lights...woohoooo

HOWEVER.....

this morning getting the car ready to take Hart'y to the airport and the engine lights come back on....and all attempts to reset are doing nothing....******

and everywhere is closed now.....could driving at 30 mph for 2 hours caused it???

i know we were driving in freezing rain....dodgy as poo

but what? how? when?.......and why?

******......******

car drives fine.........

could it just need the fault code memory clearing........

******electronics...

Driving at 30 mph for 2 hours will have no effect on the workings of the car only your fuel economy,

Sounds like to me that a bit a moisture has got in somewhere and frozen,

The reason why everything was OK after you stop at services for 30 mins, 'Hot engine soak' could have dried out the area that was giving the problem, resume driving OK, after parking the car over night heat soak long gone, any moisture will freeze and possibly causeing the problem, I am assuming Over night temp well below freezeing.

Just a thought

OK - can't believe I am giving you advice on the IS200 - but here goes!

I can categorically state, without any fear of contradiction, that driving @ 30mph for 2 hours (or more) wil not cause any damage to your car.

This may be a novelty to you mate - but for some of us, this is nothing unusual (sometimes 30mph is fast).

if you need anymore help Mat - don't hesitate to ask

Mat, just a question, do you bring some liquids in the boot ?

Maybe some humidity in the boot near the electronic box…

Appears once to me on the IS200, with a (censored) opened bottle of clean glass liquid in the boot.

All the lights came on, hopefully letting the car opened in the box and using a hair dryer solved the problem.

Can you not get the error codes out of the ECU?, which may point you in the right direction.

Sound like you got damp in a connector somewhere, so the system was giving faulse messages?.

:duh:

Just my thoughts

hmmmmmmm, had the ecu memory read this morning, the faults were..........

ECU Main (engine)

Trac/abs

Immobiliser

Aircon

so not to much to worry about, infact the only electrical thing not to show a error code was the folding mirrors.

anyway its all been reset now.......... :yahoo:
