What I Hate About The New Is

 Share

Recommended Posts

-no automatic door locking

-when I lock the doors manually (during driving) when I open my door (driver door) only this door unlocks. No other door is unlocked.

-rain problem (water goes on front seats)

I agree 100% especially both door locking comments - its just so annoying to try to get to the back seat to collect my laptop and find the door locked.

I'll add one more gripe

The A pillars seem to be designed to completely block the drivers view at many junctions. i'm all for airbags but I have had some close shaves due to not seeing cars blocked by pillar - i know i should look around more

Can only think of two things I "truly" hate about the car...

1: the rattles, although minimised by my dealer one still remains (which turned into a tab rather than a rattle)

2: my alarm... The chief mechanic told me it's a major bug in the alarmsystem they put in the car in the Netherlands that once you close the doors BEFORE turning the ignition on, the alarm goes of with a "hood open warning" once you drive ~5mtrs. It should get fixed as soon as my Lex goes for its first full service run and I must say I learned the order in which to close the doors these days :winky:

But to be serious, there are a multitude of pro's compared to the con's... The points above are not even "hates" but more dislikes... As well as another poster pointed out, I can't understand that they designed this car that when it rains... and you open a door, that water comes poring in... major designflaw in my book.

The rest is still priceless... design (ex and interior) the sound of the engine and revvingspecs, gadgets, sexappeal, etc, etc,

That was I, and Lexus GB response to this and other complaints I made in writing? -

"every car is inevitably a compromise " blah blah blah.

I'm losing hair, and there is nothing worse than opening the drivers door, and large drops of cold water fall on the bald patch... :o

Whilst we are on noises, has anyone here had this noise in their new IS.

I had a ticking, a little bit like something was caught in the air vent being tossed around, but I turned off all the air conditioning system and it is still there and appears to be related to the road movement. I can approximate it to a static "tick!" noise coming from the middle of the dash board.

Any ideas?

Sorry for going off the subject of the window shapes, but it seems this thread has, well, lost the thread a bit.

Sounds like a rattle, that's what mine does intermittently in the New IS...but you have one on the Old IS....?

Anyway talking of dislikes, I hate the attention that the car gets...too many jealous glances...'cos it's such a good looking beast...

Happened today whilst waiting for the kids at school...again...

It's like walking through town, arm in arm with the best looking woman in the world, something I'm used to given my gorgeous wife!

havent got a new is but does anyone agree that on the new ones the wheels look too undersized for the bulkyness of the rear end? looks like theve had a puncture and put the spare on.

yes, 16s look :tsktsk:

17s not so bad

18s ok for std wheels :)

I had a base model to test drive first and the 16" wheels made it look like a prius. With lexus 18" wheels the car looks gorgeous though and I find ride comfort better than my old IS200 with its 17" wheels. Perhaps that might be partly due to the tyres though - kuhmo on the old car, dunlops on this one.

If you're getting this rattle on the old IS then I've had exactly the same rattle in mine - ended up being caused by the top panel not fitting correctly. Mine was simply replaced as the car was under warranty, but it could just be a case of removing it and refitting it, check with your dealer.

sorry but it is a bog std lexus, not an exotic or modified car, people dont get that jealous im sure.

 :o not in my neighbourhood :excl:

It's the only car that you can park up, and people give you comments. Happened 5 times thus far incl one policeman in MK, and a compliment from an Alpha 159 driver (again in MK too). I obviously returned the compliments to the 159 driver, but not the plodman!!

I've never had this before!

For owners that have new wheels is there a market for their old 17" wheels as I would n't mind changing my 16". Not satisfied with my size need another inch!

I know what you mean. I left my missus in the car when I went into the supermarket (don't worry I left he window an inch or so down for fresh air), and she heard a couple of guys standing behind our IS enthusing about it to each other - generally raving about the styling and the potential power of the engine. She thought it quite funny.
