Painting Brake Calipers

Now that I'm working on the brakes, any suggestions with painting brake calipers. I've only managed to locate one type of brake caliper paint (VHT) which comes in a spray can.

I think red would go well with the yellow body colour.

my car is big and heavy causing the brakes to get very hot and the hammerite has been on nearly a year and is still looking good as new...

Surely the rest is 'antifouled' to keep the seaweed and barnacles off ..

Are you having a joke here, or can you really paint the calipers?

I've been thinking about getting coloured calipers for my car, would painting them be easier than replacing them with coloured ones

Yep you really can paint the callipers, look at my avatar, those big red things are my painted calipers. Went out bought Red hammerite smooth, took all the wheels off wire brushed them, painted them - taking care not to paint any part of the pads, let them dry put Lexus Decals on and went over with clear lacquer.

P.S. Painting them is much easier than buying coloured ones and cheaper!!

Red

Black

Silver

White

Gold

Reflective Orange (rare)

Chrome (not guarenteed as under trials... please dont email me.. you'll know :) )

Yep, Hammerite smooth is good stuff for brake callipers.

I used to have a GSi3000 Carlton a few years back, which had all the Lotus wkeels and kit etc. Painted all 4 callipers with a fine brush in about half an hour one Sunday afternoon, without taking them off (bit lazy I know, but the only left unpainted would only ever be discovered when it eventually got to the breakers yard!)

Stuff stayed on for at least 2 years that I know of.

I just used normal spray on clear coat from Halfords. I put on a few coats and it seems to have lasted fine. The calipers don't get that hot.

I picked up some specialist laquer form my local Car Shop, the heat build up in that area is quite considerable so I used some laquer designed for use on heated areas. Can't find the pot anymore- sorry, but I remember it was only about £5

Go into any mod shop where you are, explain that you are looking to paint your callipers and they will recommend an equivalent paint, or you could try PM'ing TRD328 he's in Australia and may be able to recommend a decent brand of paint readily available

IMI, i too have a black IS200 sport and painted them black

keeping it classy looking,(i was at gaydon) also got 2 sets

of decals chrome/white aint made me mind up which to put

on yet?? as for lacquer any kind will generally do coz if you

put a couple of coats of paint on the heat wont get through

to blister the lacquer.......unless you race the IS

i have few chromes left... i have enough to do 10 cars.. after this they are no longer available! unless someone wants to donate a few 100 quid for the chrome roll

So if you are thinking of a set then better approach me soonish!
