Is200 & Rewritable Cds

Recommended Posts

Mine will only play the clear unlabelled writeable CD's - not too sure about re-writeables - although I've never had much look with re-writeables in any of my car audio systems.

Definately won't play labelled writeables though.

Autosound the guys who specialize in reparing Lexus and Toyota radios always say that copied cd's are the main cause for IS200 changers jamming and showing error 3

really dont see this as a reason - its a disc, same size, thickness type etc etc. err3 refers to the loading mechanism failing/ jamming

I think autosound may be doing their little bit to try and protect the music industry!!.

With regard to any cd they all conform to the ISO standard for this type of media, the record manufacturers are generally using the same manufacturer for the base cd as you are getting from the PC shops.

It could be the way you are ripping the copy, some music companys are protecting their music with hidden encoding and if you are not using a version of software that strips this then you may end up with what the record companies want, a unplayable cd copy.

Try copying with Nero it works fine for me..

It's true that the various CD file formats are a standard, but different disks are handled better or worse depending on the wavelength and bandwidth of the lasers in both reading and writing devices.

You can try writing the CD-RW's at a slower speed (1x) as this can help a lot with some players that have trouble with them. This is particularly true if you are burning CD Audio, disks, which are by definition read in the player at 1x. ISO9660 disks (filesystem based) you can write at full speed, as inherently you'd be reading them on a device that can cope with the error correction necessary (i.e. a PC).

Pretty much all players should be able to handle CD-Rs, though CD-RW's can be more problematic, as they require a much more focused laser to read them.

I just use CD-Rs, they're so cheap. Having said that, I've changed my headunit for an MP3 compatible unit that explicitly reads CD-Rs and CD-RW's and stick about 10 MP3'd albums on each one. With about 50 CD-Rs in my car, I have a huge collection of music at my fingertips, neatly racked in my glove box :)
