Got Pulled Over

Recommended Posts

Those who have been into central london would have seen the little booths that are dotted around with policemen in them.........anyway, on Friday night I was driving around London with some relatives who are over here on holiday who wanted to see London at night.

Turned on to Fleet St, where there was one of these policemen, and as soon as I turned in he pulled me over. I wound the window down and said the usual good evenings, he had a good look around everyone in the car, and then after a short pause, came back to me and said "I just wanted to pull you over and ask why your headlights were so bright".

Not eluding to the fact they were aftermarket HIDs, I just said they were normal Xenon headlamps and that's just how they are. Straight away, he just said ok, and let me go.

This got me wondering as to whether he actually stopped me because of the lights as it seemed more as though he just made that up on the spot to have something to ask me. And if I had had a car full of younger friends, rather than older relatives, would I have been fully pulled over and checked for license and insurance, etc?

Has this happened to anyone else? I suppose if they are just randomly stopping people it's no bad thing, but mine doesn't stand out as a particularly dodgy looking car

Its because you didn't go to the WIM meet. Your car is flagged. Serves you right.

Maybe he didn't see that your passengers were older and mainly concentrated his view on you (being the driver)? Probably felt a bit of a dope and he did make it up on the spot.

I got stoped for looking suspicious driving my lex in the early hours, basicly one of there meat wagons pulled up to my left right at a junction peered down through my window then pulled off and parked in front of me then put the blues and toos on....

i was told they stopped me coz the car was clean and i was in filty clothes from working on a building site till the early hours

if it had been my dad in the same situation i doubt they would have stopped him......

I got pulled over about a year ago because a cop THOUGHT i was speeding????? :crying:

coming back from a mates through central southampton about 1:00am, Came to a cross road and the light was red, slowed down and almost came to a stop, light went green so planted my foot and accelarated up to 40mph (the speed limit) and as i came round the corner there was a cop standing in the middle of the road. he heard the car from round the corner and pulled me over as he could hear that i was giving it some beans. i noticed that he didn't have a speed camera in hand so knew i would be fine!

cop: 'im pulling you over as i believe you where speeding'

me: 'well i know for a fact that i was not speeding'

cop: 'can you please step out of the car sir'

proceeded to check the car, tyres, ran a insurance check, ran a check on me.

Funny thing was while running all these checks a motorbike went past doing 100+ and he just watched as it flew past, the biker even waved. i was laughing my head off :whistling:

He said to me' i think we might have to go after that guy when i have finished running these checks', 15 minutes later and i went on my way...............pretty certain he never got that biker as he would have been in scotland by the time he finished with me :lol:

sorry for the long essay but it made me chuckle :shutit:

Haha, I should've known you would have turned me in! How was the meet? Did it go well?

It was pretty dark, so I don't think he could've seen any of us clearly from outside, especially as he was blinded by my headlights :hehe:

It's not as though my car looks particularly "done up" either, it just has the TTE styling kit and 18" alloys which was all optional Lexus stuff so quite common.........

From the other responses though it seems like it happens a bit so I guess it's no big deal, plus it gave my relatives the true London experience :whistling:

lol @ Geoffers

It used to be called the 'ring of steel', but it still exists in a lower key form. It goes from the High Court

(@ the Strand end of Fleet Street) all the way to the Tower Of London & covers the square mile of the

City Of London (financial district). Cameras galore and little booths so they do't get wet (aah bless) :winky;

I have seen plenty cars pulled over in that area at various hours of the night.

Maybe he was jealous of your nice motor bud :duh:

I got a Peugeot 206 the first week they went on sale (a long time ago!). At the time they looked quite different. In the first 6months I had I got pulled over about 4 or 5 times, even my dad did one night. A couple of time they did just ask what it was like.

:offtopic: A bit like the coppers last week chatting to the guy in Central Manchester in a McLaren SLR parked in a disabled bay.

I live just off City Road in Central London and i've been pulled over a number of times... Got pulled over once only to be asked where I was coming from and where i was going!

The last time around they went through the full works, pulled me over, checked the car, my details, when they couldnt find anything the copper said when i drove past them the lights at the back of my car werent working but as soon as they pulled me over it started working again... He then went on to say maybe i've got a wiring problem. Thats the biggest bull**** i've heard in a long time.

I got pulled over for having a dodgy haircut. At least they didn't notice the broken windscreen.

you sure it wasnt for cutting your hair while driving? :shutit:

i think its just something we have to come to expect these days.

When i had my IS200 supercharged it was a regular occurance until i got my private plate. Although the plod still did like to pull me to ask why i was going 30mph but sounded like i was going 60mph... when you show them the charger they get interested and end up chatting.

Its just a job in the end, and a statistics game.. eventualy they will stop someone that will lead to an arrest etc... so if you dont nothing wrong then dont worry..

I wouldn't worry about getting pulled over when entering the city there probably wasn't a specific reason. They pull random cars all the time, apparently there are terrorists on the rampage.............oh and i would think that a TTE kitted is200 would look quite done up to most people, though i wouldnt have thought a copper.

Why didn't you just ask the officer why he stopped you? That's usually one of the first questions I pose to an officer who stops me. Sometimes, they are even upfront and tell you why they have stopped you.

As I said at the top, he said he pulled me over to ask why my headlights were so bright, but it just seemed to me that that wasn't the real reason.........

All just speculation, but yep as above, if it gets terrorists off the streets, then I don't have any problem with it as I don't have anything to hide :)

I was in back streets of Cheltenham, (looking for Car hire place,) in a BMW 850....you know how drug dealer-looking cars THEY are!, and I got approached as I pulled up at Rent-a reck.

"Excuse me sir, are you Doctor Skelton?"

Yes.

Just checking sir we like to check strange cars in our area.......I think the fact that A/ the "Doctor" on licence helps!! (It's PhD, not medical, put on licence etc JUST for that reason!! :whistling: ) and my hair having faded to silver-grey  meant I WASN'T dealing!

But in the LS400...never.

O.K. Off for MOT now. Just noticed it ran out....in December!

:o now that's what you call ranout :whistling:

Strolled through/ "lovely" I kept hearing from underneath the car......Often forget JUST how smooth and responsive the LS is.(driving an S-cargo in town. or a 1300 Micra)All the days MOTs had failed up to mine too!

Off to mow lawn in sunshine..... :offtopic:

I was driving home late at night about 3 in the morning. passed a copper in a van. Minutes later he had turned round and caught up with me, flashing his lights. I pulled over and he asked me if it was my vehicle. I said yes. He then asked for ID.

Why? He already had my number plate to identify me. He claimed it was because where he passed by me he saw some gates to a Park and ride open.

But Lexi are difficult to break into. Also I had the key. Also I would have put my foot down after passing his crappy van.

If you ask me Nu Labour have employed billions more coppers and they're twiddling their thumbs.

there sneaky up by me,on my way to work theres a volvo garage and most of the time i start work around 3-4 in the morning and what they do is park in the garage with their front end just poking out so there more or less in line with the for sale cars, and as im driving by ill see the old blue lights start to flash in my rear view and they'll pull me.

this happened every morning for a week and they said they pulled me cos it was a funny time of morning to be driving about and wait for it,why i wasnt speeding.and i told them the same thing every day that i was going to work and that i had just got up and didnt really want to get to work that quick.

now they just let me drive past ;)
