Thinking Of Jumping Ship To An Mr2 !

With the credit crunch in full spring I've been looking to get a cheaper to run car. and an MR-2 has caught my eye. It's a 2002 in silver with a hard top and a sequential gear box. Has anyone here owned one? it's a very tiny car compared to the GS300 and I can't drive the manual one as my feet are too big for the pedal's... I guess im at that age where i want a sporty 2 seater, I cant afford a poor mans porsche and i havent looked at an MX5 or Honda 2000 yet.

Are the sequential models quite rare? looking around for them not many show up.

I do like the look of the latest s2000's but i cant afford any of them lol.. Would love to test drive one but not sure they would take me serious enough to let me lol.. Not a huge fan of mr-2's but there fun, been in a few non turbo ones an they seemed fine

Nice motors mate , there is an MR2-S down the road from me and its mint , dark met blue its a sweet tool for real.

Don't know much about the MR2, but personally I'd go for the S2000, much more of a proper sports car :)

Flippin heck Brett, from a Lexus GS300 to a Mr2! Talk about a totally different car! :o I still really like the older shape MR2's which you can pick up for peanuts now, with the T-bar option they make a really nice and fast (if turbo) convertable too.

If you go on Pistonheads they all rave about the MX5 and the Honda S2000. The Honda S2000 would be my choice but the pre 2004 cars are quite a handful fom what I hear.

bitt of subject but i am working on my 1st MR2 mk1 i do prefer the older shape, however they are a but rusty nowadays from wen i drove it befor i thought it was lovely and feels like ur speeding around lol oh wait i was

as for a honda s2000 also a nice var but there getting a bit common in some areas although there was a nice yellow and black one on eBay the other week looked really nice if you like that sort of colour sceme lol

I've arranged a test drive for this afternoon. yeah its a massive change, but i did go from a pug 306 dturbo to an is200 so im used to the big jumps :)

The older MR2's - the bigger ones that are more curvy - they're nice looking cars - the newer MR2 is a giggle to drive but hopelessly impractical.

you'd think so, but no. 2k is a joke, even parkers says it should be worth around twice that.

the previous shape mr2 is nice,

some of the older s2000 are not too dear, i fancied a nissan sx200 before i get my is200 but they where all very raked or rusty

my gs300 went for £2850, was a s plate exact same as yours (sport)

i love the mr2(one you drove) only reason i couldnt get one was due to the fact i needs more seats.

is the value of them really that low? my cars in near mint condition with satnav and hid's etc and not even 80,000 miles

Trouble is Brett no-one wants big cars now with the petrol prices and all , seems to me its only gonna get worse , I sold my IS200 for a fiver under 6k so I think I got out at the right time , I have a Clio sport 172 now , drive it mildly and you can get late 40 mpg's . i used to put £60.00 quid's worth of petrol in the Lex and I'd get roughly 200 miles , I get that with £30.00 quids worth now , don't get me wrong I loved my Lexus but my wissus wouldn't drive it ( too big ) and it was getting to the stage where I was getting obsessed with it , it was over-ruling all else and thats not good mate . Good luck with the sale , hope you get what its worth .
