Hi

Ive found if you turn the nozzle round through 180 degrees every pump every station no problems and the looks you get from other so called luxury car owners and general car owners is great you make them think, you have something special and its something they dont have.

The joys of being a Lexus owner.!!!

Or they might be thinking weird o!! still cant please all the people all the time.

Just put it in normally, bring it back a small way and let the nozzle rest on the top of the pipe. Neither my wife or myself have ever had a problem at any pump.

That is exactly how to do it (well its the way i do it anyway)

but if you still have trouble, newly refurbished petrol stations (like all the BP ones since they became connects) have different pumps that work fine (in my experience)

I have a two month old 200SE and funnily enough have exactly the same problem and queried it with Lexus Ipswich - they say it can be a problem but to experiment etc - pity they don't tell you these things before you buy! I am still trying to find the best pumping position but will return to dealer if things do not improve as pump clicks every 3-5 seconds even with minimal trigger pressure

You guys make it sound like the IS is the only car that has this problem. However, I have never filled up a car with the nozzle all the way down and the trigger in full lock without having the pump shut off all the time. I always have to lift it a little or only squeeze it half-way. I guess it's the anti-fuel-theft-siphon-protection with its narrow neck that only lets through a limited amount of fuel per second... be glad it has that and take a minute to fill up  (be glad you're not pumping LPG ;) )

Cheers,

Bingo, that works every time...... just imagine your in OZ.... turn the pump upside down, and fill to your hearts content (well the tanks content..lol) without stopage.

I have this problem with my IS, but also my wife's Nissan Micra. Not better, no worse. I think it's the pump tolerence.

Turning 90 degrees does help.

Very annoying, and quite dangerous. I've spilt fuel using this necessary technique with the Micra.

In the US, the nozzle attaches and can be left to fill automatically. No fumes, much safer. Shame we can't have that system over here.

  • 2 weeks later...
whats the total miliage the car can do once the Petrol light comes on?

The light comes on when there's about 10-11 litres left. So, if you can manage say 30 mpg, then you should be able to get over 60 miles with the light on (in theory :) )
