  1. So I have experienced my first and so far only issue with the F. I had a pre-cat lamda sensor fail... to be specific P0031 H02S Heater Control Circuit Low Bank 1 Sensor 1 So dashboard does its Christmas tree impressions on the M6, I pull into the services to check it out, I must be one of few who carry a code reader in the car with me at all times just for interest. Find it to be the lambda so no great drama carry on my merry way. First call of course to Lexus to give them the specifics and to get a quote. £580 inc. VAT fitted. So after I picked myself up off the floor started searching and this is what I found. Denso/Toyota to a specific replacement, part no. DOX-0504 and can be found here: http://www.denso-am.co.uk/e-catalogue/ and can be bought here: http://www.sparkplugs.co.uk/denso-direct-fit-lambda-sensor-dox-0504 for £94 although I have a motorfactors around the corner from me and I paid the same through them. Looked at fitting myself but without a ramp I wouldnt recommend it. Being the pre-cat its pretty well hidden, you can get at the sensor to remove easy enough but the connection to the loom is very well hidden. I took it to a local independant and watched the process. For information at this stage Bank 1 is the bank of cylinders containing cylinder no.1 and is the passenger side of the car (I didnt know this). So they had to remove the small heat shield that sits behind the manifold to be able to get a hand up to unclip the sensor from the loom, The extension they had to use to take off this shield must have been near on 2ft. After its removal everything was easy, took them 45 mins all told. That 45 mins plus the fault clear and re-check was £60. All in a grand total of £154. Where Lexus get their figures for service items I have no idea. Anyway, this may well be useful to others in the future. Happy motoring LOC members....

  3. I want to give a big thumbs up for my Lexus trained indie (having worked for Lexus for 20 years), based near junction 31 of the M1 near Sheffield. I have taken my LS 400 to Dave at Lex TeK Autos a few times over the past few months, and never fail to be impressed by his enthusiasm, encyclopaedic knowledge and outstanding value for money. It is nice to be able to take my Lexus to someone and have total confidence, without having to take out a mortgage afterwards. There is no fancy showroom, but there is a waiting area with wifi, and coffee is offered. . I wish I had found him sooner. I have no personal connections with Dave and know him only through work done on my car

  4. Just passed another MOT so at least another year for the Lexus. It was mentioned but not listed on advisories that both the front Lower Ball Joint rubber covers are perished this is somewhat surprising as both these were replaced back in August 2010 with genuine Lexus parts which means they have only lasted 6 years and the originals ran for 12 which questions the quality of OEM Lexus parts. Unlike some german marques the emission figures are genuine with CO and HC readings at zero, pretty good for a 22 year old car.

  5. I'd like to think that Toyota/Lexus have supplied a battery that is suitable for this use case - certainly a standard 'flooded' battery wouldn't cope too well. Many of the Toyota range has had stop/start for years now so if there were any reliability issues those should be known and corrected by now.

  8. The simple answer is no. When the car is Ready, you'll have to press the power button and turn it off fully before you can go to accessory. However, if you've driven to work and the battery is full, there's no reason why you couldn't just leave the car in ready mode as it should just stay on the hybrid battery without switching the engine on unless AC is on.

  9. Well if mine has it then it isn't working cos I've had several people walk out in front of me in car parks then turn round and jump when they see me sneaking up!

  10. Hi I got a call again from lexus and the diagnostics likelihood is that there will be a fault with either the transmission oil pressure switch or potentially an electronic fault with the hybrid vehicle control ECU. The exact fault coede is P0990-897 The diagnosis itself will cost 300pounds. If it is the pressure switch it is very labour intensive but the part is cheaper around 100 - 200 pounds If it is the HV ECU then the part is expensive but less labour intensive. So I assume It is going to cost me around 2000 pounds. I do have a basic warranty but there may be a limit on this. I am going to have to ask my dealer where i bought from to cover any add cost as I only had the car for 2 months. I am not sure exactly of my statuary rights on this. I wonder what could have caused this issue. It seems very rare case. Any guess on which one is most likely the cause. Considering the car runs fine i think it is the switch. Thanks Harry

  12. Read this link, discs do not warp even cheap nasty ones. Vibration is caused by uneven deposits or something loose. I suspect you could warp a disc by getting it red hot and then banging it with a ruddy great hammer (but I usually have better things to do when I am waiting at traffic lights) The myth of warping

  13. Hi Richard, The lexus canterbury once more... confirmed that they don't care to be honest. I dropped of the car on Saturday, the receptionist asked me what key ring my keyd had and here I go .. to leave. The sales person did not even bother to come and greet me or anything. I had to ask them to come out... I did say I was a bit dissapointed from the consumption 28MPG... and there was oouumf missing. The GS450h is way faster... But he said to me you have to do 5000miles before you can see economy go up to 30s MPG. So no hassle what so ever.. lol

  14. So beginning to get somewhere at least then Harry, on the older models like mine it is quite common to get the auxiliary transmission oil pump problem which if memory serves gives P2797 and sets the "Check Hybrid System" message. There are a Myriad of things that can set that. Glad your getting there, keep posting Richard

  15. Hi All Just called lexus chester and they are struggling to find the exact fault. I am yet to get the fault code from them. What they said is it is throwing up an error on "Transmission Pressure Switch" which they said is very uncommon . They still need more time to workout what exactly is going on. Thanks Harry

  17. Hey Giblet, Been a while since I have been on forum as of working abroad. Getting on really well with XKR. A lot more comfortable than ISF, and surprisingly gearbox on jag is better than ISFs. Performance wise - not much in it really. Suppose all depends if you can live with 2+2 or need four seats. Mines is the 4.2 supercharged version, which while grunty, is a good bit down on power compared to the 5.0ltr XKRs. The XKR I got had the 400mm Alcon brakes, which was a must for me. Don't know if they are any better than standard XKR brakes but they look lovely and are a must for the 20" wheels. Still messing with insurance company on payout. Seems our ISFs are worth about 75-80% of what they retail second hand for??? Just hope forum members never have to get in same position as me. Try buying a A1 condition for 16K???

  18. Yes they are both the same thing The petrol engine is 99bhp but combined with the electric motor you get something like 134bhp. I don't believe the facelift tweaks made any performance difference, just emissions as mentioned above. You could be really unlucky and get a dud but Lexus are some of the most reliable cars around and Prius mini cabs (use the same drive train) are still going strong after a number of years and > 100k miles. An approved used car will also come with a Lexus warranty and breakdown cover for a year to give some peace of mind. Be sure to give one a test drive to see if it gives you enough performance and is comfy enough. They aren't rocket ships and are on the hard side but offer plenty for many people, myself included.

  19. Michelin get a reputation for being hard wearing. As above however I'd also suggest an alignment check, little point spending £400 on a new set of tyres and wear them out quickly. Also keep an eye on the tyre pressures as being too soft will cause more wear at the edges (which the CT appears to be prone to anyway). The OEM Yokohamas that came off mine when I switched last month at nearly 14k still had 3mm of tread on the outside and 4mm in the centre.

  20. Have checked and it's definitely not the fuse. The mouse re-centre's itself when the engine is switched on so definitely has power. No option now but to be checked out by Toyota/Lexus Thanks very much everyone :)

  22. Pictures as promised. Wished the carbon fiber was real, but I think it's fake. Only driven it once so far (to bring it from the sellers house home).
