  1. The problem is not capitalism itself but how unfairly its being applied. If the government says motor insurance is compulsory it must make provisions to ensure even lower income groups are able to afford at least some basic level of cover. E.g. education is compulsory but everyone gets to go to a local school for free and if they have the money they're free to opt for private schools. Unlike Australia, no such option here when it comes to insurance. Its compulsory plus you have to buy it from the greedy cartel. The government must provide at least basic third party insurance for a nominal fee or as part of the rip off VEDtax they charge us annually. On one hand you have inelastic demand and on the other thand you dont have options. You might argue that transportation is not a basic need but to some it is..many rely on their vehicles to be able to earn an income due to lack of or poor public transport.

  4. Ooh the level of judgement. You shall refrain from further participation? Ooh no! we're going to miss out on all the condescending comments. Its laughable that you think you're better than others because you drive a Lexus. Goes to show the size of the peanut where your idea if your "expertise" comes from. Also since you're such an award winning expert on commerce you should know these business are all intertwined. The best example is AIG that tanked and was bailed out at taxpayers expense. But you already know that since you're a baller award winning, lexus driving, rolex wearing commerce expert 🤣

  5. So how did we go from Insurance companies to Banks? Look I expect this level of naivety and lack of understanding of commerce from some people. I just did not expect to find it here amongst people who are equipped to find themselves behind the wheel of a Lexus. I shall refrain from further participation .

  8. Lexus likes to have its cake and eat it with leather options. It costs £ 1,900 to take a Premium Plus grade from Tahara plastic to Semi-Aniline leather, but you get £ 0 back if you downgrade a Takumi grade from Semi-Aniline leather to Tahara plastic.

  9. Personally I find the sound system superb. I play everything from classical to heavy metal and have tuned the bass to my preference. My only irritation is radio broadcast companies using any old crap recorded on a smartphone or over a dodgy internet connection. Studio news readers are loud and clear but their interviewees may as well be Martians. I can't blame the car system for that! I've coupled mine to an Android Dongle and use Amazon music. Sounds great. Don't ask Miss Google to play a certain track of music though, results are a lottery!

  10. Educating your children is mandated by law. Owning a car is not, and therefore insurance isn’t mandatory and shouldn’t be state provided. The problem is we’ve been too generous bailing out those making unwise life choices (e.g. those on benefits see a financial increase if they have more kids, courtesy of other taxpayers; whereas those earning & paying their way typically see a big decrease in their household finances if they have more children) that it’s now become expected that the government will solve all problems. Any sense of personal responsibility is sadly gone. I fear too many people aren’t aware of how bad nationalised companies were. I suspect we all may have a refresher course in the next few years.

  13. Fuel pump failure leading to cut out of the engine whilst being driven which is seen as a safety issue, hence an official recall. Owners would have been contacted if their vehicle was in-scope, but you can double check here: https://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/about-my-lexus/vehicle-recall

  14. I agree about the plates - The original plates were a copy of those used to prevent car jacking in South Africa. If there is some enhancement perhaps it's thicker gauge steel in another manufacturing run? I'm not totally convinced that encryption can't be added in software for at least few critical commands (such as "correct key present"). To me the idea of trading in a 4RX for a 5RX sounds like a triumph of hope over experience!

  15. Took me ages to find it! About 15 minutes in…..

  16. I think you might find that the enhanced plates are not at all enhanced. People without all the facts say some total bs. What probably happened is the original plates were prototype and the final plate design differed a bit. Lexus were experimenting at the beginning. We all knew the plates were a stop gap. I think I might look into adding some additional protection for the wiring loom. A firmware update will never happen. It's far too difficult and expensive to roll out because for every 100 successful flashes, one car will fail and the boxes will be dead. That will cost £££ to put right. A preliminary firmware fix as previously discussed by a security researcher would only be a stop gap also, because the thieves will eventually obtain a work around. Only fully encrypted units will work and our cars hardware do not have the processing chips to handle encryption. Therefore a permanent solution cannot exist ever. Get a scorpion or similar chip. Have a steering wheel lock. And hope for the best. The 4RX is a dead car. Trade in for a 5RX or another brand not affected by this exploit. No point demanding the impossible.

  17. I have the Levinson one in my Takumi and to be honest it is wasted on me. I have always wondered if a high spec sound system in a car is a waste of money anyway unless you are stationary, all the background noise even in a quiet car must drown out all the discrete tones and quality. Bill D.

  18. I for one find it really hard to believe that if the insurance companies charges us the same price as last year for example (assuming nothing has changed) that they will go bust.
    1 point
  19. Sure that only applies when you are not a bank or financial institution. Else everything flies. If you're a bank then you're free to do whatever...tank the economy at taxpayers expense gamble away like its a giant casino. Do whatever when you have friends who are bureaucrats and policy makers. Laws apply only to us regular people. Also when I say cartel obviously it's a metaphor. These companies have the best lawyers money can buy and often find grey areas.

  22. Hello, I was in the process of purchasing a replacement battery for my LS600hl. I have the original Panasonic which is 13 years old! Please note, it is not just about what size fits, it has to be an AGM AND have the built in sensor, this is really important (just can't remember what the sensor does, but it is to do with the hybrid battery!) I would go and get it purchased from the dealer only, free next day delivery, you are then not taking any risks and have peace of mind. In the end my original battery was fine and new one not required, even Halfords, who love to sell you stuff could not supply me a battery.lol

  23. I wouldn't call you names . Just deluded.😉 Seriously if you wish to have an argument based upon accountancy let's do it. However, don't construct partial arguments that I can drive a bus through such as " +10% for labour for example, you can't increase the price +60% on the basis of labour costs". Moreover, if you have assumed that is what I was saying you just did not read what I said carefully enough. Labour costs are just one piece of the multi faceted reasons why premiums are rising and indeed are probably not the most significant part of the issue. Do I need to make any further clarification? If I sound tecthy it's because I really do not like being 'quoted' when I am being misquoted. So, if you are going to quote me please do me the courtesy of being accurate.

  24. I haven’t upgraded to 17.4 yet but nothing fixed. I believe someone running their phone on a beta version has said that it works ok on that so I think it is an Apple problem and might come in some future update. It only started happening to me when I update to iOS 17 so I now don’t use Siri unless absolutely necessary and I end up sending messages blind as it doesn’t read them out

  25. Yeah, this. My insurers required a Tracker so I added an immobiliser for an extra £100, plus a windscreen sticker instead of flashing leds, plus I use a Milenco steering wheel lock when away from home. Not a deal breaker but be aware extra security is essential for peace of mind. Sounds like you know exactly what you're after stating a 17/18 model - the pre GPF exhaust! They're utterly fantastic cars, you won't be disappointed.

  29. I bought a car cover for the SC 430, but it isn't in use that much. I found it led to condensation (so much for breathability). Hence, I got into the habit of taking it off very regularly and drying off the car. I would still use it selectively, but not in any continuous sense. In fact, the instructions that come with it do advise taking it off once a week.

  31. Its good enough for me to listen to music and radio. It depends on how you want your sounds to be, do you want it banging and booming then its not the right system for you as its oppose the car to be calm and quiet on the road. But would like to have more control on the sound system in which i think only available on higher trim which is the mark levinson system. Lexus could have added it all to all trim.

  39. Wouldn't want to name the particular dealer - you'll be able to narrow it down from the county I am in, but sadly have similar, slightly negative experiences to some of the above posters. I've had my current car for coming up to 2 years now, and it's not exactly new (55 reg LS430) but I have done all the servicing exclusively at my local Lexus centre during this time. Three visits, two services (including a major one), and a total spend close to £2,500, if you include minor bits like wipers, etc. On several occasions I've asked the dealer for a quote for some further work on the car, or had a quote presented to me following a service to address some of the "negatives" they have spotted, and each time this wasn't followed up, or they would simply not call me back or reply to an email I have sent their representative, even though I am quite literally offering them extra business. Another time I was promised a call back to clarify something I considered they haven't addressed during the major service, and yet again - silence. At the same time, the main franchise agent (who I am guessing oversees the local Lexus dealer) would bombard me with calls to have the MOT booked with them. What baffles me is that every time I visit the dealership they are extremely welcoming and courteous, hands down the best customer experience I've had, and the people at this particular dealer are genuinely very lovely, yet the aftercare is somewhat lacking. Could this be down to the age of my car? I am not sure how much value / profit they are able to get out of a customer like me, but surely having the car serviced with them regularly should be valuable to them, the LS servicing costs are not exactly cheap to us, are they? Just my two cents.. 🙂

  41. Of course getting customers on to PCP or HP plans is a good earner for dealers. So it’s prevalent industry wide. When I was buying my Lexus I made it clear that I didn’t require any financing. However, that didn’t stop a staff member elbowing the sales rep aside to ask if he could introduce me to their Purchase Plan. I said he could do that provided he clearly understood that I wasn’t going to use it So we then had a perfectly affable fifteen minutes or so - right up to the point where he tried to close the sale and I said ‘No’. His attitude then became distinctly icy and I had to remind him that I had made my position very clear from the start. I haven’t seen him again and I accept that it can be a tough way to make a living. My criticism is not that he tried, but that he was somewhat unpleasant when he failed - as he had been warned would happen. Every other member of staff I’ve encountered has been exemplary.

  42. Good Evening All. Lexus are a car company they make and sell cars. Last February My AMG Mercedes E43 was stolen. The car was equipped with Scorpion S5 Tracker Immobiliser. The tracker was working for two days post theft. The police did not attend so the car was not recovered. My Insurance paid out and I brought a Lexus RX. I have previously owned an IS 220 and a GS 250. It was my experience with these that influenced my choice of car. I had no idea of the theft problem. My insurance doubled. I then start looking on this forum. I discover why my insurance was so high. Too late I own the car. As I stated Lexus Make & sell cars. While I agree they must bear some responsibility for the venerability of my car. They have fitted the protection plates by the way. I think the Police must also take a large part of the responsibility. Even when they are being told where a stolen car is THEY DONT EVEN ATTEND. Car thief's can go about there business for the most part unmolested by the Police. For me it is quite simple. If you see a Lexus driving at night with the nearside head light not working. IT HAS BEEN STOLEN. What are the Police doing?

  43. Well finally picked up my nice Pearlescent white UX today, they gave me a tank of fuel and I spoke to the sales manager and told him I wasn’t very happy regarding the cockup, he looked about 12 years old ( is that my age ) anyway he blamed it on Listers, just have to learn all the bits and bobs , IE BSM, LTS and lots of others, connected CarPlay would have been nice to have wireless but ha-ho , had £400 unused from service plan so only £17 a month for next 2 services and MOT’s so that’s 3 years covered as just serviced and had it’s first MOT ( bonus ), much easier to get in and out of. 44. Transferring a private plate to a new (unregistered) car is quick and simple. Transferring to a pre-registered or secondhand car is a little more involved. My dealer sorted everything for me in both cases, only the timescale was longer for the secondhand transfer, waiting for the DVLA to process things but even then it was only 5-7 days

  45. I’ve had a private number plate for 25+ years and have never heard anything like this from any dealer! Usually they simply have the whole thing sorted by the time I collect any new vehicle seemingly without any involvement from me!

  46. Indeed. It should hardly be the first time they have p/x a vehicle with a private plate.

  47. Being new to Lexus ownership I had high hopes for the 10 year warranty, but was slightly sceptical. Had to take my newly acquired RCF to Lexus Edinburgh, having not noticed on purchasing that only cold air was coming out on the passenger side. Additionally, drivers seatbelt wasn't retracting too well. It was a private purchase, but with full DSH. Superb dealer experience really well looked after and no charge for diagnosis. The entire passenger heater box needs to be replaced, along with the seatbelt. Non warranty cost is £3k ! Covered in full, without hesitation, subject to taking a couple of weeks to get the parts. Shows the value in dealer servicing, especially as these cars age.

  48. If you like it that’s good but I’d rather have something a bit more substantial like the moulded things you get in most other cars. There’s a lot of noise comes from the boot and it would help keep it out.

  50. It’s nasty tat really Brent, not at all worthy of a Lexus in my opinion. There are much better designs than that on very ordinary cars. I use mine most of the time and can fold it dead easy now.
