  1. I traded in my 2001 GS300 at Lexus Hatfield. That had an HID kit fitted by myself. Just wondering if Chelski has my old car? Dark metalic green? If it is, very glad to see it has gone to another Lexus Owners Club member.
  2. Airbags will not always go off in every accident. Alot of it has to do with speed, deceleration, angle of impact, etc. You may have found that the seat belt pretentioners have fired which the safety system would have deemed enough for that particular crash situation. Airbag systems are now far more intelligent that they once were and will not always deploy if the system doesn't think it is necessary. Look on youtube under gs300 crash test and you will see they will deploy in an extremely heavy frontal impact. On another note, glad to hear that your still with us.
  3. It's exactly the same on my 2004 LS430. When I first picked it up from the dealer, I did all the mirrirs. I rememberd on the test drive upon selecting reverse that the mirrors when down and then back up once park was selected. I thought I had broke them when I got home as I put the mirror controller back to the neutral position. As laborious as it is, it makes sense to go through the owners manuall. Even though it is thicker than some phone book directories.
  4. I wouldn't worry about the MOT in terms of having a HID kit fitted. My Micra passed three MOT's with no problem at all. So long as the bulbs are fitted correctly into the headlight, making sure that it sits level, job's a goodun as they say. I fitted a set to my old 2001 GS300 with no problem at all. It's alot easier when you have space to mount the ballasts. As you can imagine in a Micra, there's not alot of room under the bonet to play with.
  5. Im my experience with HID kits, I would spend as much money as you can on them. The first kit I bought went in my Nissan Micra driving school car and they lasted a good three years. When the bulbs and ballasts eventually went, I replaced them with much cheaper ones and they lasted for about a year. Philips or Osram kits are the ones to go for. A good website I found was HID-Online.com Give them a look. They ain't cheap but they will last.
  6. My old 2001 GS300SE had a full size alloy spare as does my 2004 LS430. Even before I owned a lexus when I was looking at IS200's, they had full size alloy spares. Is this somthing new that Lexus are doing to cut costs?
  7. I bought my 2004 LS430 from a Lexus dealer back in September last year. After the troubles the dealer had to sort out (new keys, air-con pipe leaking, corossion on three alloys, major service, and discs and pads), all I can say is I couldn't recomend it enough. For somthing this big and heavy, it shoudn't accelerate the way that it does. I'm six foot 4 and I find that with the drivers seat all the way back, it is too far for me. Passangers love it in the rear with the electric rear seats, massage etc. It's not what I would call cheap to run but what 2 tonne, 4.3 litre car is. The only thing I think lets it down are the 18 inch alloys and never get one with Dunlop tyres on the 18 inch wheels. Get Michelin tyres instead. The road noise is not acceptable with Dunlops. It could be that my tyres are getting a little old though. Also, be very choosey if you get one from Lexus. There is a suprising amout of ones for sale under their used scheme which have been abused. Most of them have been smoked in and if you get one with the yellow leather, it does start to look tired quite early on in life. Go for grey or black instead. My car is black and it is the one to have in my opinion as it makes you look like an extra out the Soprannos. I was lucky to get the grey leather as well. Black leather makes it look too much like a funeral car in my opinion. That's just my 10p's worth.
  8. Having washed the old girl for the first time since Christmas (I managed to turn a black car brown), I had a play about with the voice recognition. I read through some of the help screen about what you can say to it. The first thing I tried was "Temperature down" and the temperature went down by 2 degrees. Brilliant I thought. I pressed the button again and said "Temperature up". All of a sudden the nice lady behind the dashboard said "Chineese resteraunts are now being displayed" . Even though I live in the leafy burbs of Hertfordshire I have still retained a Southwestern twang in my accent. Is there some way I can train the system to understand what I am saying or shall I invest some time and money in elocution lessons? P.S. I didn't know that there were that many chineese resteraunts round my area. Silverlining and all. :D
  9. I wouldn't have thought so. The screen is wider on the DVD version and the controller is very different. It is built into the centre console rather than being on a removeable remote controll. If it was me, I would spend the money on a TomTom. I'm not overly impressed with the satnav in my LS430.
  10. I havn't had a look through the warrenty book on my Lexus but I had the front discs and pads changed under warrenty due to a vibration under braking. I was quite taken back by it actually because they wouldn't do it on my old GS300 but they seemed more than happy to do it on my LS430.
  11. If it was me it would have to be a 1980's Citroen 2CV Dolly in red and white. Once described by Bill Bayley as "A pace car at a donkey derby".
  12. Hi everyone. Could someone recomend a bodywork repair shop in Hertfordshire? I won't go into detail but my rear wheel arch on the drivers side of my LS430 isn't in the same condition as it left the factory. It has to be a good one as my LS is astral black and a respray would be very obvious if done badly. Many thanks.
  13. I can't remember what Dunlops I have on it at the moment. I shall pop down in a bit and have a look. The reason why I like the Michelin Piolot Sport tyres is because when I had my 2001 GS300 it was on the original Bridgestone Potenza's. Due to the age of the tyres I had them replaced with Michelin Piolot Sports and I couldn't believe the difference. It was as if the car was riding on a bubble of air as there was virtually no road noise. That is why I can't wait till these Dunlops wear out.
  14. I have Dunlop's on my LS430 at the moment and all I can say is they are absolutly rubbish. They are the noiseist tyre I have experienced. I can't wait to get Michelin tyres on it. That's the way I would go.
  15. I picked up my brand new Nissan Micra Spirita on Saturday morning. I had the dual brake fitted Saturday lunch time (only a brake as I teach in an automatic). Put my roof sign on, mirrors etc Sunday evening. Did 4 hours of work in it today, and with just 200 miles on the clock, I get a puncture. I couldn't change to the spare wheel as it's a space saver and you can't teach when using one. Took it to Kwik Fit who repaired it for £17.50 which I thought wasn't bad but what did suprise me was when they did the wheel nuts up. Usually they do them up using the air tool and get them so tight that only the hand of *** could remove them, but no, they were done up by hand, and then torqued up with a torque wrench, checked by another coligue and after 10 minutes, it was all done. I've never been so impressed. And get this. Because my new Micra has the 15 inch wheels on them, there are only three company who do the tyres for them. Bridgestone, Dunlop and Continental. And the price for one tyre without fitting and balancing was £110. I was getting 17 inch Michelin Piolot Sports for my old GS300 for £90 a go. Because Michelin don't do these tyres in this size, I can't get them from Costco either. Lets hope I get at least 30,000 out of these front tryes. Many thanks. Rant over.
  16. I got (well bought for myself) a Breitling watch. The price of it did come out of the supercharger fund. Has anybody ever driven a LS430 with a Tom's supercharger?
  17. Hi People. Hope you have all had a good Christmas and New Year. I'm having a problem with my 2004 LS430. It's not a problem with the car, it is a problem with me trusting what it is telling me. A few weeks ago I had to visit family in Gloucester and I was traveling from Herts. I set the sat nav, even though I know the way, so as it would let me know of any queue's and to automatically reroute me. Well, I was heading south on the A10 towards the M25 and all was quiet with the sat nav. Got to the M25 roundabout and guess what, traffic was queueing and the sat nav still said nothing. I got in the queue anyway and 5 minutes later, the sat nav lady pipes up and says "caution, traffic queieing". It tends to know what it happening once you are in it rather than telling you what you are approaching. I also did a trip to Chester and back using the sat nav. It informed me of some traffic queueing after the M6 but after the last experience, I chose to ignore it and sat in the queue again. This time, the screen asks me weather I want to reroute and I said yes. It added a few miles on my journey but I couldn't help but think if I waited a little more in the queue, weather the traffic would all started moving again. What I am wondering, does anyone else trust this service that the sat nav provides as I'm of a differing opinion? Many thanks. P.S. Managed 28mpg on a 400 mile round trip to Chester. Was quite pleased.
  18. Sorry to hear about your GS being hit. To say this gets my back up is a major understatement. This girl has probably just passed her driving test which makes it worse. Im a driving instructor and no matter how much you drill into them about the correct and safest way to drive, not all of them take any notice. I'm glad your taking it through the insurance. Also, might have been worth having a word with the Police about it, especially as she has admitted to trying to pick up her mobile phone whilst driving. Having to do her theory and driving test all over again might make the silly cow think a bit more. Just my 10p's worth.
  19. Please don't get me started on the congestion charge when it comes to hybrids. It's damn obvious to me that 10 Lexus RX400h's in a single road will cause more congestion than say, 10 Nissan Micra's. So why should someone who spends over £80,000 on a LS600h have to pay no congestion charge when my Nissan Micra driving school car, which uses loads less fuel, takes up far less space, produces far less Co2 has to pay £8.00 a day. If you ask me, I'd like to rip Ken a new one. That's my 10p's worth. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.
  20. 999,063 Finally found out what Ertha Kit means.
  21. I filled up my LS430 on Saturday evening at a BP in Hoddesdon Herts, BP Ultimate was £1.12 per litre and yes it was almost empty. Cost £81.00. It could go to £2.00 per litre and it would still be worth it to drive an LS.
  22. If it was me I would get rid of the Dunlops as I have 4 on my LS and I think they are awfull. My GS had Bridgestone Potenza's and I changed the front two to Michelin Piolot Sports and the difference was mind blowing. The road noise reduced by 50% at least. I shall be putting Michelin's on my LS430 when they need changing.
  23. Many congratulations on the MOT pass. It's nice to hear when they do. Helps to instill more faith as this is my first LS and it certainly won't be the last. Even if it did cost me £81.00 to fill up with BP Ultimate. Worth every penny though.
  24. It might be worth getting the sensors in the exhaust changed. Especially with very low mileage as the might have sooted up. It might also be worth changing the petrol you use to BP Ultimate or the Shell V Power for a while. My LS430 spends most of its life stuck in traffic and then once every three months I take it for a good hard drive for about 300 miles or so. Helps to keep the spiders out the exhaust.
  25. It's a shame the IS350 has not been officially released by Lexus in the UK. Im of the poinion that if the BMW330 sells over here, then an IS350 would too.
